Your videos are absolutely amazing. I learned so much about sapphires watching your channel. Using few lab equipments I can really understand how much should I quote the seller and how much should I quote to foreign buyers. Thank you very much for sharing this great content. Recently bought a lot of blue sapphire time to see which one are heated and which one are natural. I hope there is more than 1 natural once in the lot.
Thanks a lot for the compliments and glad you found our videos useful. I will hopefully uploading some more soon, if time permits. Also, good to hear about your 'gem hunting' adventures. Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG
If it is a ruby and not 'composite ruby' glass or plastic, it is very difficult to scratch a ruby without another ruby, sapphire or diamond scratching with it. Of course if you hit hard enough in wrong angle it is possible, but again very rare and hard as rubies, sapphires (corundum family) are quite hard - in Mohs scale 9. Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG
Yes they are visible with 10x gem loupe though you do have to practice and have some experience seeing it. Wish you the best of luck with your ruby purchase. Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG
Yes very similar indications for synthetic blue sapphires. We actually written a brief blog post regarding different synthetics which you can see here: www.buygemstone.info/difference-between-synthetic-and-natural-ruby-sapphire-emerald Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG
Thanks for sharing your experience. We used to live near there as well in Mahesak Soi 3 before the highway came there. Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG

Fantastic video showing so many colorful gemstones! Question : What should I pay most emphasis on when I go to buy a gemstone? Is it fair to say that just relying on a gemstone certificate is not enough?
Great question. When buying any gemstone one should always check the six criteria's (as shown below) before determining if the price is fair or not. a) Carat weight b) Color c) Clarity d) Cut e) Origin f) Treatments Gemstone certificate helps narrow down some of these criteria though it is not enough as you do have to judge the color & clarity yourself as the labs are not 100% accurate. Also the reputation of gem labs matters. Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG
I have 10 (around 5-10cat un treated) blue sapphires with me. I recently sold one for 5,000 pounds for a German buyer. I was very lucky because I bought them dirt cheap. I made like 60% profit from the sale.
Very lucky indeed. The prices shown in this video is actually quite low compare to what blue sapphires are selling now, due the lack of supply. Thanks for sharing your experience. Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG
@@ThaiNativeGems Yeah! Recently bought 3 natural blue sapphires. One was 1.03ct, 1ct and 1.4ct. Bought them for dirt cheap. If you know where to look inside Sri Lanka. You can buy it for cheap. The best thing to do is networking. As much as possible.
thanks alot for the information. I am a gems trader from Myanmar and looking to expend my market direclty to Bangkok and scheduled to come a inspection trip in the end of this month. As per your video selling in my country is much better price i can get than Bangkok?
In Bangkok you will definitely have more 'serious' buyers compare to Myanmar, but because there is a lot suppliers as well they will negotiate to lower price as well, as they do have 'more options.' In the end it really depends on what type of gemstone and quality do you have. The more 'rare' and 'nice' the stone the better price you can fetch for it as they is always someone interested in buying it. Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG
We have done natural rubies in other videos in past. Sorry for not including it in this video. Links provided below: 1) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ornjTJv9pl8.html 2) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XODG8dB6phE.html Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG
Like any detective work we have to look at multiple clues to see if the stone has been subject to treatment or not. Blue cloud can be 'normal' color zoning or can be chemically diffused as well. If you see other clear unheated elements then most probably it is. Wish you the best of luck with your gemstone analysis. Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG

informative and interesting ! Subscribed and liked! I have a specific question for you...Last year, i acquired a really nice untreated 3 ct mozambique ruby via my trusted traveling gemologist. The ruby was certified by GRS and another more "local" lab called "GRL" (gem research laboratory) in Bangrak, Bangkok. Have you ever heard of that particular lab? Reason i ask is that they gave it a better color rating (Vivid Red (Pigeons"s blood)) and naturally i wonder if they are a valid and respected laboratory? Do you have an opinion? Thanks for any reply even if you have no opinion to offer...
Personally, I haven't heard of GRL. I actually wrote a blog post about different labs for gemstones which you can check out here: www.buygemstone.info/what-lab-or-certification-is-the-best-for-checking-your-expensive-ruby-sapphire-or-emerald/ In terms of color grading from the various labs (even the reputable one), I personally don't trust any of them as color is very subjective and generally 'vivid red' pigeon blood ruby is very specific color which 99% of all rubies don't fit this specific range. Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG
@@ThaiNativeGems THANK YOU SO MUCH, for your timely and informed AND easy to understand reply ! I did look at your linked article and it is a wealth of valuable info... I too am favoring the Lotus lab, i had a sapphire certified by them and it is more useful to me than the ruby certificate from GRS !
Really old, which I bought around 16 years back. I'm sure they don't sell this one anymore. You just need any good quality - Gem Testing Gemology LED Darkfield Microscope. Wish you the best of luck with gemology journey. Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG
