thank you so much for this very informative video. As i am in gem trade in india, is there any restrictions or problem in airport or immigration while bringing the stones from there in bulk? can you help me in this regard?

Gemstones are subject to 7% VAT, so yes if you carry them in Bangkok without declaring it and if the immigration officer stops you, they can penalize you plus they will decide the value of gemstones and charge you 7% based on that.

Kindly mention genuine gov approved labs which are authentic, because sometimes people make fake certificates.

Thanks for your suggestion and I do agree with you. Actually, I am planning to make a video about reliable third party certificate providers and they don't have to be government approved. The main criteria one should look at is the lab or the person is qualified gemologist (from renown institute) to check the various gemstones types and treatments. informative and interesting ! Subscribed and liked! I have a specific question for you...Last year, i acquired a really nice untreated 3 ct mozambique ruby via my trusted traveling gemologist. The ruby was certified by GRS and another more "local" lab called "GRL" (gem research laboratory) in Bangrak, Bangkok. Have you ever heard of that particular lab? Reason i ask is that they gave it a better color rating (Vivid Red (Pigeons"s blood)) and naturally i wonder if they are a valid and respected laboratory? Do you have an opinion? Thanks for any reply even if you have no opinion to offer...

Personally, I haven't heard of GRL. I actually wrote a blog post about different labs for gemstones which you can check out here: www.buygemstone.info/what-lab-or-certification-is-the-best-for-checking-your-expensive-ruby-sapphire-or-emerald/ In terms of color grading from the various labs (even the reputable one), I personally don't trust any of them as color is very subjective and generally 'vivid red' pigeon blood ruby is very specific color which 99% of all rubies don't fit this specific range. I too am favoring the Lotus lab, i had a sapphire certified by them and it is more useful to me than the ruby certificate from GRS !

In Bangkok you will definitely have more 'serious' buyers compare to Myanmar, but because there is a lot suppliers as well they will negotiate to lower price as well, as they do have 'more options.' In the end it really depends on what type of gemstone and quality do you have. Hi, I blame consumers in not understanding about gemstones and believing places like 'Gems Gallery' are 'big' or 'reliable' brands that represents the 'gem market in Thailand.' As you can see when you visit there they have large overheads - a lot of inventory, electric bills, building maintenance and staff's salaries to cover, so they do have to take substantial amount of margin to cover these costs. But this issue is not only with Gems Gallery.... If you look at a lot luxury consumer items they do overcharge compare to what is actual material costs. People don't only pay for item costs but also the experience or wanting to be associated to brand. I can ask the same question in why people are willing to overpay for Tiffany, Cartier, Louis Vuitton items? Its not only the item but what the brand and its culture represents. I don't know if you have made any of the videos of Thai Naga Stones they claimed from the Mekong River. I don't think it's real stone maybe just fake/ scam but what kind of stone is it, glass or real?
