@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy I put off reading it for so long because I’ve heard so many say it’s confusing and lacks in character work. Which is ironic because I’ve found the characters to be wonderfully written.
While I do enjoy a grimdark, I grew up with morally virtuous characters. There's something about the good guy actually being good and doing the right thing despite it not being the easiest thing that's very appealing. I think Brandon Sanderson does a very good job of this. He has characters who span the spectrum, so you get a nice mix within each book/series. I think that's a better approach than all characters being one way or the other.
I like this. Ok, lets talk Honer Harrington by David Weber. Rand Al'thore, Lan Mandragoran, Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Bolo books by Keith Luamer. Allanon, the Shannara series by Terry Brooks. Just to name a few. It's what made me have a hard time reading Game of Thrones. I hated that the one good leader was killed off right at the beginning. I know some of the characters went on to be amazing but damn it was hard for me. Great subject. Thanks for tickling my brain.
I am a millennial female... so of course I love Harry Potter. It is my comfort zone in the fantasy world. I love Remus Lupin and would consider him to be morally virtuous. He has always been one of my favorite characters.
I use what I have hehe. Nice of you to read the book with the Swedish cover. The author actually also did the swedish Dnd aka Dragonbane and Astrid Lindgren books.
I agree about Streets of Laredo. It was Dark and Violent! And I just really did not enjoy it. However, You say Commanche Moon is okay? I skipped a little of video for fear of spoilers. So you recommend Commanche Moon? I'm going to read it anyway I just want to be assured it's not too dark and Too violent? Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed it. -James
@@Littlebiglibrary Thank you for you comment James. I don’t think my comments on Comanche Moon contained any spoilers. To be clear, all of the Lonesome Dove books were dark at points, with some being darker than others. I wouldn’t say that CM was any darker than Lonesome Dove. Streets of Laredo was just depressingly dark for me.
Glad to see you back! I was counting on you returning soon. I love that you’re getting deeper into the Stormlight Archive! I’m sitting in the same boat as you as far as where I’m at in Oathbringer, except I had to take a very long break, lol. Hopefully returning to that very soon.
Bloodsworn! 🤩 This Summer, I have been reading the «Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn» Trilogy by Tad Williams (Epic Fantasy, a key influence for George R. R. Martin's « A Song of Ice and Fire»), «The Prince of Nothing» Trilogy by R. Scott Bakker (Grimdark/Dark Epic Fantasy inspired by the Crusades, Silmarillion & Dune), «A Brightness Long Ago» by Guy Gavriel Kay (Historical Fantasy inspired by Renaissance Italy) and (maybe) the final two «Expanse» Novels by James S.A. Corey (Space Opera) by the end of this month.

I’m glad I read(listened) to the fall after of blood and fire However it fit’s either way. For anyone wanting to try this series I’d say 100% dive in. I’m listening to of war and ruin now and it’s almost hard to take a break
❤❤❤ if you like dragons, magic, war, shape-shifters, great world building, epic battles, great unworldly creatures & wyvern you fall in LOVE with this series! Oh did I mention it has Dragons, dragon riders & DRAGONS😂 all you need to know right there😂! (Those interested in reading these yourself don't let the size of the books fool you! They're fast paced & you'll find yourself wanting more & more❤! You won't regret reading these❤)
I’m the same way, I’m ok with whatever length just keep it consistent. But I love that there is a chapter in the last Wheel of Time book (A Memory of Light) that is titled “The Last Battle” and is twice as long as the entire Narnia book “The Last Battle”. 😂
