For the Salvatore books, I would start with the Icewind Dale Trilogy (books 4-5-6 of the Legend of Drizzt (35+ books)). Salvatore wrote, much like the great George Lucas, what turned out to be the 4th, 5th, and 6th books in his series. They setup who Drizzt is and it will give you a better sense of who he is and how he is so different from other of his race....which you learn about in Dark Elf Trilogy. I love Drizzt and he is one of my favorite characters in all of fantasy. Enjoy the series, it is great!
So many great books on this list. First Law is great, and so is Green Bone Saga. ASOIAF is my favorite series of all time. My priorities next year will hopefully include the Dark Elf Trilogy.
As for myself, for 2024 I plan to read «Lancelot» by Giles Kristian (Arthurian Fantasy), «Imperium» by Robert Harris (Historical Fiction about the famous Roman Politician Cicero), the «City of Victory» Trilogy by Adrian Goldsworthy (Historical Fiction set during the Reign of Roman Emperor Trajan), the «Lyonesse» Trilogy by Jack Vance (Arthurian Fantasy), «Ash: A Secret History» by Mary Gentle (Alt-History Renaissance Fantasy) and also hope getting to «The Dragonbone Chair» by Tad Williams and «The Children of Gods & Fighting Men» by Shauna Lawless!
Empire of Silence is awesome. I need to continue the Five Warrior Angels, I liked The Forgetting Moon. I just read The Blade Itself and really liked it. I didn’t read book 3 of Licanius and not sure I ever will, similarly I read the first three of A Song of Ice and Fire and don’t really desire to read books 4 and 5. I started Drizzt with the Dark Elf trilogy, I’m happy with that. It’s really up to you to either start with that or Icewind Dale. The Crystal Shard is pretty meh, and if I had started there I likely would not have continued. The rest of Icewind Dale are the best of Salvatore’s writing I’ve read.
The only thing that I’ve DNF’d at this point has been the Wheel of Time so I hope to see all of these series through. But who knows. I’m very excited to read FWA because I’ve heard great things about it.
Maybe we could include shelf centered I was talking to him about something and some others maybe and then get Bryan to go on livestream with us after we read each book to discuss.
