Nah, the screw is so that I can put it into a little handle when I work it on the machine. It's easier that way to get a good, round "dome" on it. Then I take the screw off.
Yeah, the flat head of the screw sticks to the flat side of the rock, then once it dries, the screw goes into a little handle, so that I don't have to use my fingers to hold onto the rock :) Then I use hot water to get the glue off and do the back side.
I am really not sure, I have a lot of quartz pieces, all different kinds of patterns and colors, you give me more and more ideas with every video, thanks so much, looking forward to the next one😮😮❤❤❤❤😊
Thank you so much for the video, it was very enjoyable, I would like to know about your vibe tumbler, I want one and I would like to get your opinion on what I should get, it seems to me you know what your doing and what to use😊, thanks again and I really loved those pieces 😮❤
This video couldn’t have shown up on my feed at a better time! My daughter and I found some large pieces of really pretty quartzite a couple days ago...deep purples, bright reds, dark grays. I wasn't sure how well it would tumble, though. I was concerned that the large grain size would be a factor. After watching this video and also seeing those absolutely gorgeous cabs you made out of that red and white "quartzite sandwich", Im super excited to try my hand at tumbling mine! Are there any other factors or considerations that I should know about before I start? Thanks so much for sharing!!
I love this so much! Glad it's useful! With these sorts of quartzites, the large grain size can definitely be an issue. I've found that when I check on them after the rough tumbling stage, I have to be really careful to see how smooth it feels. Sometimes the rocks will look perfectly round, but still feel a little grainy/rough when you feel it. It can be hit or miss, but some definitely turns out pretty.
I'm in SWVA. I like watching your videos because I think it's interesting to see how the rocks in other areas of the state compare to the ones I find here around my property. I see a lot of similarities in color between yours and mine...that red one looks exactly like some I find around here, especially. However, around here there's a lot more translucency in the chalcedonies, especially the blue and gray and light pink shades. We also have a ton of clay here, so I find a lot of bright orange, as well. Another difference is that I don't tend to see as much of the patterning like you have on these rocks here, which is a shame because it really makes them stand out.
I'm loving your videos! I'm about to start my rock hounding journey (I'm in eastern VA so I'll be doing a good amount of driving to find good rock spots) and I've been trying to do a lot of research. It's a bit overwhelming trying to figure out exactly where to start the hunt. I really appreciate all your tips! Btw your dog is adorable!
Well I think they are very beautiful as always, you do fine work, by the way, I will patiently wait on your video on tumbled quartz, I am really interested to see what you do with those, thanks again 😮😊
Thanks! I think the next video will have all the quartz I plan on tumbling. Then once it’s polished I’ll have one that covers everything start to finish.
They are so beautiful, I just recently found chert on one of our camping trips, and have tumbled and been very happy with how nice they turned out... yours all have such pretty patterns...
I agree, remember there are no ugly rocks or junk( lol), I think it would be a great cab, and I definitely agree with agates so many people are about them, I love your videos, lots of chert were I am, very interesting patterns, I would like to ask you to do a load of quartz tumbling for me 😮, thanks, I will catch your next video 😊
Definitely!! I want to add that there are SOOOO many rock lovers on RU-vid that are all about the agates. They toss away chert like it’s nothing. Watching your videos has made me a loyal chert lover! Thanks for sharing. Until I get my own lapidary set up, I get to enjoy the love of it by watching videos like these!
You get them looking so good, I am going to start a load of quartz today, maybe they will turn out as great as yours, I also wanted to ask you, would you tumble quartz with faces, thanks again😮
You can definitely tumble quartz with crystal faces. Sometimes if the crystal faces are pretty, I'll just leave them, but I've found some that just have lots of ugly jagged crystals that I think look much nicer tumbled :)
@@TredecimRocks Thank you for responding, will I lose the faces if I tumble them, I guess you can hear I'm not good at this at all, but I love finding stones
