Videos of construction sites such as HS2, East West Rail, Universal UK, Luton Power Court and others from around the UK filmed with DJI Pocket, Mini2 drone or GoPro.
Plus other wandering videos of things that attract my attention.
Hi Simon, this is old footage for me, filmed this on 14/9 and only realised tonight that I'd never uploaded it. Think they only have 1, but I get so lost around Delta Junction!
Unlikely to happen this week as the fixed pumping system and associated sumps and pipes will need to be cleaned out, the pump controls have all been underwater and hence need drying out and cleaning. All tunnels and roads below the water table , river or sea have permanent pumping installed. They will be designed to handle everything up to for eg a once in 50 year storm. The problem is global warming is reducing that period.
I honestly expected it to stay closed for weeks but I fear pressure from above is forcing a quicker partial reopening (and likely a reduced speed limit)
Everything has to be checked, it wasn't long ago that the Ampthill Rd had to be completely relaid (in parts) due to the movement of the sub base material. It may look ok, but the engineers and experts have to test everything 😮
It’s all very well pumping it out but if the storm turns up early next week like they say might happen then it’s just going to refill if the pump isn’t fixed?….
I don’t see how they could open the slip roads when they still need the tankers to get in and out plus they will also need various inspections no doubt - I think it just wouldn’t be safe for anyone to do that. Thanks for the info.
As the engineer quite clearly said in your video “there’s lots of ifs and buts” and it still “might need a resurface”. Wait for the official announcement is my advice before finding yourself on the wrong road Monday
Used to live up that way but no longer. Are we joking? They spent millions building the road but no drainage and are having to actually USE pumps in to tankers to take away the water??? WTH?
I mean when the road dips well below that of the surrounding land it's OBVIOUS to anyone that understands basic physics that it's going to flood. Likely what happened is that the pumps couldn't handle the extreme amount of water running into the dip/drainage system, and couldn't pump it out faster than it was coming in because it was a lot of rain in a short space of time. Then once it gets high enough to enter the control panels, it will likely trip the power and then it just floods even quicker. Then they had to use tankers to pump it out because they couldn't access the permanent pumps since they were underwater. It's also likely that the control panels weren't fully sealed against water ingress because they never planned for an event where the pumps couldn't handle the amount of water coming in. As someone even pointed out, why was the control equipment not higher up than where the pumps were? Probably because there is a benefit having it close to the pumps so one person can easily start/stop/maintain them, and again because they never thought the water would get that high.
The traffic flow here is huge at peak times, I can't see how you could do that without closing Beancroft Road across the dual carriageway as otherwise it would just snarl up in minutes.
Other than the 10 tankers driving up and back filled with the flood water, the pumps on the road to pump the water and the power generators and lights placed intermittently along the road to enable the pumping operation to take place......
@@BikerandBits they are on the main carriage way for about 4 miles either side of the flooded junction. Also, the slip road needs resurfacing - the council have said
Was this tunnel necessary or could they have built it above ground to save from the Nimby tunnel. Or do you reckon it would necessary so it would bypass the roads and light industry too?
AS a born Lutonian , I think Luton isn;'t the best place to live, but isn't the worst. I think Luton gets a bad press, some of it is undeserved. I lived my first 20 years in Luton, yes I was born in the early 70's would still be within travelling distance by train , as would go there of an evening in the 90's. The Calvary Church Of God was The Odeon cinema, I had seen some films there , my Dad saw The Rolling Stones there in 1964 (lucky him) , and also uswed the ABC which is noe replaced by The Galaxy. The Lidl store is what was Woolworths. I found a limited edition 45rpm of "The Miracle" by Queen there , of all places in 1989, so had to get it for my Queen collection. It's amaxing that virtually every retail outlet is filled, and not empty. OH yes I did wonder what The Point was, but it's a rebrand of The Mall or as I still call it The Arndale, as it was when it first opened in 1972. The old Town hall was burned down by ex servicemen in 1919, angry about being unemployed and other grievances , burned the town hall down in a night of rioting in 1919, they were also angry at the money spent on the Peace Parade, council fat cats living it up an elaborate dinner, and here were men risked life limb and sanity for King and Country and in poverty!!
That’s what was said on site this morning, I’ve heard the sound bite and know expectations are now that it’ll be open by Wednesday but no one on site seemed to believe that at 8am, it was weeks not days as the same chap said earlier in the week
Fair enough. Local rumour is certainly Wednesday. Hopefully they aren’t disappointed! I did then hear the Wednesday date may only be one lane in each direction.
Closed until the end of October? I drive back from Bedford to MK 1 evening a week & have not been able to use this road for several months now due to overnight closures. I am getting used to it not being available.
I stopped commuting this way in April, the random roadworks for new fencing that everyone ignored the speed limit on until they put a speed camera in went on for so long
To place the pumping station at the lowest point of the road really wasn't a great idea, if this was place higher up, when power restored, it would have kicked in. some people just don't think when it comes to government (our) money.
Im thinking they need to build a new pumping station in the middle of one of those roundabouts at top of bridge. Yes I know it works best if the pumps are at lower levels but it's possible just more expensive.
I don't understand how they can have any doubts about the integrity of the bridge and yet still allow traffic to flow across it. Surely, if they are even slightly suspicious about how safe the bridge is, it should be closed, or at the very least carry restricted traffic? Thanks WN - may you have many happy days wandering and informing us about events!
Thank you, really helpful. So that stranded car has finally been removed then? What a miserable job for all the workers involved. You can easily identify just how far up the banks the water reached given the colour of the vegetation. I sincerely hope that it will be open soon as local roads/communities/commuters have been severely impacted.
Of course the real question is why the pumping station was positioned so low? Yes, the inlet pipe needs to be as low as possible, but the pumps could easily have been much higher.
Pretty sure I heard your drone as I was hanging my washing out this morning! On another note I have seen an article in a Bedford paper where highways agency have said it may be open by Wednesday…
None. This road was opened c2009. Dual carriageways have been built all over the country for 60 years before this was opened. If they can't learn in 60 years about how much flooding costs, then why expect it now?
What a complete fiasco, heads should roll, but they won't. Wrong sort of rain, once in a hundred year event, could not have foreseen this, we will be commissioning an inquiry in 2027/8, which we hope the outcome will show that the office tea boy was found in error and we have sacked as appropriate or provided training. We will of course learn from this event and hand out MBE's to all involved.
Arghh winslow station !!!! Where is the arrival D.N.A. compatability testing rooms , as to local D.N.A. must also post a health warning as in cigarettes packageing .... ' all arrivals must have compatable D.N.A to local D.N.A. base stock ' for example ...
Interesting..the farm , shown briefly at start of video , to the left of picture , has the best eggs ever , highly reccomended £ 2.00 for 6 ..free range , great quality ......great views of locality thank you
