5/24: Tom Oberheim has responded to Behringer's claim that he gave the brand permission to develop the UB-Xa. He states that there has been "no collaboration between us and no discussions about their plans for synthesizers or anything else."
@@mrtravoiceburges obviously there are quite a lot of people who know how to load patch banks. Well, you need to install an application e.g. MIDI-OX for windows or sysex librarian for Mac on your computer. Connect your UB-Xa to your computer via usb and the sysex application will recognise it as midi in/out device. Then just load the sysex file you’ll get when you purchase my producer pack for the UB-Xa into your sysex application and send it to the synth. That’s it.
Very nice - although I'm not seeing any editor panel indication of routing pitch of OSC 2 via ENV 1 to get the classic sync sweep. Seem like it's fixed here - no mod except LFO. Am I correct?
@@LYFDDT no, you can use the OB-SX keyboard. At the time, I made the video, I didn’t have the eprom burnt. The sounds were saved in the „magic box“ midi interface and could only be changed via midi Programm change, for which I used the keyboard controller. The download package includes both, the eprom image and the sysex data for the magic box.
Although Boss is the clear winner, Teknik is good for higher thinner results for less wider instruments such as mono instruments (Bass guitar, and Lo-Fi synths as well as low reverb compact pop piano/keys).
Does anyone know how these patches sound on Full Bucket Music's VST "FB 7999"? I have no doubt they will load, but does NOT having the analog VCFs and VCAs make a big difference? EDIT: Yes, they are SIGNIFICANTLY different. Not necessarily "bad" but the filter is completely different in the FB 7999. It's a free VST and does a "good" job at reading the sysex files, but is pretty much miles away from a real DW 8000 in my opinion. But, hey it's free. Just don't get your hopes up TOO high if you purchase presets from here or Espen Kraft's - they definitely sound noticeably different.
@@skyko I tried my soundbank in an early version of the FB-7999. Soundwise it’s quite close and the plug-in is really great, but there are difference especially with the filter. I love the idea of using this plugin as an editor for the hardware. Import/export of sysex and tape dumps are just amazing.

(Much more respectful than the comment I received from Espen Kraft, where I had to discontinue my business with him due to a similar post I made on his DW 8000 preset video where he was showcasing the "FB 7999") Your presets are amazing. This post was not to discourage or undermine your wonderful presets, I just wanted others to know that if they were using the VST that they could expect a different sound.
Did ypu maybe make CS70M restoration/repair video? Any useful info? I'm on the beginning or repair process of mine. Lot of issues and work to do. Cheers! S

This part is what you should start presenting. Part 1 is not as exiting as part 2. Its not bad, but some may not get to the best part, so start with part 2. Its amazing.
Thank you for a good demonstration. Very nice that you didn´t add any external effects, so that we can hear what the instrument actually sounds like. My Poly-61 (purchased in 1983) still works perfectly.
Starship used this synth in touring in the mid 80s. You can see Gabe Katona playing it in the Tampa Stadium concert in 1985. The brass poly lead sounds it blared out during that concert were so dope sounding. It made me want to get one of these.
I played an OB-Xa that sat on top of my Dyno Rhodes in the 80’s .. nightclub rig. I don’t know how the action is on this thing .. but it sounds great .. just like I remember. By 1989/90 these things were regularly listed in the recycler used gear ads for $500.00, heck even my Jupiter 8 only fetched $450.00 when I got rid of it then. I’m sure there is a good number of boomer aged players who now wish they’d not sold their stuff then, to buy our old gear back used is ridiculous these things get on the market, even forking out 5k for a modern OB-X8 is a real hard swallow at 5k, I mean who wants to pay 10 times the price of what they sold it for! This thing makes sense .. if it’s got a half way decent action that is .. my DeepMind 12 has the cheesiest action I’ve ever felt in doing this for 45 years now. Ok now we need the Behringer Fairlight, PPG, and Synclavier II 😉
Midi without problems, Audio always with some sort of artefacts. But that has nothing to do with the UB-Xa. It’s the DAW (Logic, Cubase, Ableton,Protools,, etc.)
I agree with Bernd, what are you actually asking? MIDI data can always be quantised up the Yazoo all you like, but if you're recording the audio, then you're likely to be massaging that audio as you mess with it.
@@GoldnhourMusic yep. That’s the whole point of MIDI In on a device such as this: to enable external control of the hardware from another source of MIDI data.
