In the first few years of its existence RU-vid didn't allow longer videos. Therefore, I couldn't upload Elly Ney's recordings as a whole and, due to "copyright issues", some clips were cancelled in some countries. Hate comments lead me to cancel the comment function. When Google took over RU-vid I suddenly had no more access to my channel for several years. All this was not amusing!
But I finally managed to get access to my channel again and started uploading new videos, which, I hope, you will enjoy. I am a musicologist and music teacher that specializes on rarities.
The role of Sieglinde is mostly in the middle voice with a few memorable phrases in the upper regions. Nilsson took this on when Rysanek fell ill, and while she herself was singing Brunnhilde in other performances of the complete Ring. She of course is solid, but it's not a role that showed off what she could do best. There is one startling performance of SIEGFRIED from this season - the broadcast - where the years fell away. She was 57. It was the gleaming, youthful voice of the Solti recording. Startling singing - I wonder if she regarded it - as I certainly did - as one of those blessed occasions when everything aligns? Pavarotti famously said, "The number of evenings when you feel in absolutely wonderful voice and everything is working is maybe 3 times a year. And usually those evening happen on a night when you don't have a performance!"
Only time that I saw Bjoner or Dieskau, or Varnay als Amme. Saw Birgit as Elektra in CG, Edinburgh and Paris and Farberin in Frankfurt and Hamburg, King as Kaiser also in London, Astrid as Klytemnaesta in Paris an München.
Even just that first clip, any scepticism of Nilsson's abilities will be put to rest. It's not the volume, it's the quality: spot on pitch and forward motion musicallym
Slow but not dragging. Highlight the rich texture of this piece. Though I understand her appoarch of imitating the train totally stop, the tempo at the end is way too slow to me.
Thank you very much for uploading this opera. I am a fan of Juan Diego Flórez. I have watched the Royal opera house version of the opera featuring Juan Diego Flórez in the tenor version on RU-vid. It was excellent performance. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤...
Wunderbar: Elly Ney war die Klavierlehrerin meines verstorbenen Mannes. Er hatte von ihr jede Menge Tonbandaufnahmen. Sie hat damals schon ihren Unterricht sehr wegweisend und modern gestaltet.
Lorenz often frustrates me. The vocal material is first rate, but he often throws away smaller notes as if they don't exist, including the syllables connected with them! He also has a habit of scooping every 1st note of phrase from below, something Svanholm also did - in imitation of Lorenz, or a function of both of their training? It becomes very wearying to listen too when done so consistently. Anyway, thrilling to hear him in his close to prime voice, in good sound. Sieglinde doesn't give many opportunities for Teschemacher to show the glory of her voice, which is the top. But it's a thrilling sound when she's able to soar. I wonder when in 1944 this was recorded? Dresden was flattened by Allied bombings in February of 1945, and the studio or concert hall where this was recorded probably was destroyed at that time.
Perhaps my Nr1 hero of tenors. As a matter of fact, I listen most to Jussi B. There is something in his voice, that goes right into my heart, listen to him. And thank you youtube for all videos and to all people who broadcast all the songs. One thing, I don’t hear that he mention Victoria des Los Angeles, that is strange, because they sang so wonderful together. I wonder if JB and V de LA sang together on the Met? He must have had a serious nice honest personality. This is a real gem!
Extreme that no comment has gotten any likes! Have they once received them but they have been removed? I will attempt to like some of them and then check back.
super poetische schöne Inszenierung.. Kostüme.. Puppen.. Musik ABER warum nur klingt dieser Operngesang in Deutsch so unpoetisch? 🤔 (die Originalsprache ist ja hier doch selbst Musik... vi ricorda o boschi ombrosi - das hat Klang und Rhythmus.. )
