My name is Mora and I’m taking my life and my two dogs to Mexico.
My 2 dogs and I drove down to Mexico from Oregon at the end of March 2024. After many years of being a nurse, I needed to stop and make a radical change.
Since then we've explored many parts of Mexico, from the playa to the mountains, finding treasures along the way, and getting to know the culture, language and traditions of this great country. Ultimately, I'm looking for a pueblo to settle in permanently, and for these last months I've had the pleasure of discovering many lovely towns and cities along the way.
In my videos I discuss some of the places we've explored, the pros and cons of moving to Mexico, the cost of living in Mexico, and much more!

Hola Mora! I'm glad you are in Mexico enjoying everything:the people's hospitality, the food, the climate, the peacefulness.....l'm from Veracruz, l'm 60 and been in Texas for 38 years and wishing to retire soon and start to really live and enjoy life like you. I love your stories, you deserve enjoying your life in México because your soul is mexican.❤
It was the time for somebody to tell the truth! The lake itself is really awful, even though it is the largest of Mexico, but who really cares about that...!

I enjoy watching this video and reading all the comments. What I have learned is that there is no completely safe and secure place to live. Every place has its good and bad qualities and that we must always be aware but not afraid to step outside our door anywhere and enjoy the wonderful things life has to offer, but in a cautious way. Thank you so much for your videos and tips and for all the enlightening comments .
Enjoying your videos! I brought my 2 dogs to Baja with me. I live in a smaller town and the only issue I have is it inhabits my ability to travel as much as I would like. Baja is no problem but I would love to stop watching mainland Mexico travel videos and start seeing more of it myself. 🙂 Keep up the excellent videos.
We live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. When a Thunder Storms rolls through I put our English Black. Lab in the small enclosed toilet area with a fluffy blanket and close the door. The small dark space calms him.
Nice day trip. Brings back memories of a day trip from Morelia 5 years ago. The only problem was they packed in too many destinations -- Janitzio, Tzintzuntzan, Quiroga, & Patzcuaro -- so we were on a tight schedule. Ended up spending less than an hour in Patzcuaro which was unfortunate. If you get a chance, don't miss Taxco in Guerrero state. I was almost talked out of going there, but it ended up being a fantastic trip & an awesome city.
I'm relaying my experience. I'm not inviting anyone rich to come and over pay, in fact I've spoken about that in another video. And I'm not inviting any Mexican or anyone else to over charge, both of which are what lead to gentrification. Wealthy Mexicans also contribute to gentrification and I doubt many of them are watching my videos.
Mora please go to Uriangato,Guanajuato its half hour away from Morelia I think you will love the small town wich is next to Moroleon Guanajuato ,both are very tranquil towns that are beautiful
As a woman who looks "foreign" (though I am not) and who lives in the US, all of these concerns are valid in the US. I remember several occasions in the US - one recent drive in my home state, which is in the northeast - and when my daughter and I turned down one road we felt very unsafe. While driving down another road we also felt unsafe, but as it was a more well-traveled road we simply drove off. While driving across several states recently I actually mapped out the route, but I also researched the safety of certain towns and had a specific stopping point for where I would spend the night. I always wear a ring on my wedding finger, and I'm middle aged. It's unfortunate that women traveling alone have to be careful in many places. People wonder why I don't want to live in the suburbs; it's because there is often no one around. For perspective, I lived in El Salvador in the early 2000s and was told it was super dangerous, especially given the relaively recent civil war. I was always cautious, and did many of the things mentioned in this video. It always pays to be careful.
Thank you for your honesty! Gentrification poses such a conundrum. My area of where I live in the US is experiencing extreme gentrification. What is the answer? I don't want to be that ugly American gentrifier (I do speak Spanish well enough and have lived in Latin America before), but my neighborhood is quickly becoming unaffordable. Not looking for answers, just here to comment and again, to say thanks.
I was visiting that same cemetery and town almost exactly a year ago - for the Día de los muertos. It was indeed magical with lots of music, people, candles, market and food. Michoacán is such a wonderful area! I'm a bit jelaulous you are staying there for a good number of weeks 😅 Thank you, Mora, for the videos, especially a couple of them about your story and how México made you feel - you spoke the words I was searching for about my own experience there last year.
You seem like such a good and kind soul. I hope to retire in Mexico. I have some family responsibilities that keep me in the states for now. Eventually I’ll be able to leave and I dream of this day. So glad you’re finding peace and overcoming your fears to hopefully find a better way of living. I wish you all the best you brave soul.
No matter how "safe" you feel in Mexico, remember this. Every single person in your neighborhood knows every little thing about you. You are ALWAYS being watched. Safety is an illusion.
Hola try to speak spanish when you can listen music podcast en español, it would give you more confidence and find cheaper and better living. saludos desde uruapan have a nice day
Again. It amazes me, how you are able to find such beautiful places to explore, to wonder and letting me know, how much of My own country I still do not know and I need to explore. Thank you!
My cousin's funeral in 2023 was such a beautiful day in Puebla, MX he was born and raised in Mexico, later migrated to the USA and then was buried at home in Mexico, placed with his parents in the large crypt. The singing a procession was a little different as the song we sang was his favorite song by Frank Sinatra "My Way". Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I really loved this video... maybe I will see you this Winter as we travel around Mexico again.
@@MoraMargaret I do feel like the Mexican people handle death a lot differently and hold their loved ones dear for many years going forward honoring them during the annual "Day of the Death" and many other ways... I really appreciate that aspect.
I had a giggle at your expense in that graveyard. I too would have been desperate to exit or become invisible as possible. All good. Thanks for sharing your journey!
You are such a breath of fresh air. This week was sorta off the rails lol and who popped up on my screen "MORA"❣️ This was such a beautiful and warming video, just what I needed 🙂 You visited arts and crafts, which I lovvve,so bright and colorful, and then the history of the Spanish and indigenous 👏👏 I'm Canadian Cree Metis with French and European . My mother lived in Canada then moved to the states. I don't know how you pronounce the name of the villages but you do it so well. The Pueblo of Magic? was gorgeous with the lake and all it had to offer. Now the funeral 🤭 that made me smile because it seemed to go every where you went😳🤔🤭 lol. I'm sure the little lady you saved from the naughty dogs appreciated that. Seems to be a problem with wondering little packs of dogs, which gives them more courage. Well Mora thank you so much wheeew,, you got me unwound, have a happy, safe, week and am looking forward to next time down the road, give the puppies 🐶 a couple extra pats for me 👋👋
I just love your videos, Mora! I learn more things about Mexican history that I didn't know thanks to your research. The next time you come upon a funeral procession, I invite you not to worry about disturbing the participants as they pass. On the contrary, feel free to stand on the side and watch them as they walk past. You will be "accompanying them" with respect -- they will not be offended by your presence. In fact, they will feel honored that you took the time to stop and "be" with them in that solemn moment. I am so proud of you for fending off those dogs! You assured the safety of the Purépecha woman. What a valiant woman you are! ¡Qué mujer tan valiente eres! 🙂It is very, very admirable that you are "comfortable in your own skin" and that you are enjoying Mexico on your own ... in the company of your sweet dogs. A big hug from Jody here in Querétaro where my husband Jorge, our handsome, happy Golden Retriever mix Buddy, and I ("Pepe") are living quite contentedly. Much love to you, my friend. P.S. I have a RU-vid channel (Joseph Quillian) where I upload videos so they won't take up room in my cell phone. I put videos on there purely for enjoyment. I have lots of videos of our adventures in Querétaro. 🙂
Yes, I am one of your followers, Joseph Quillian and I truly enjoy your videos. I also watch Mora's videos. Between you both I will be moving to Mexico in no time!!! (ja, ja)
I see your channel but when I try to view a video I keep getting error messages. Weird. But I subscribed. Thanks for the tips on funerals, I didn't want to intrude, but I will take your advice. Big hug back to you! and a pet for Buddy :)
