Hello Mora and dogs. We are so glad we found your channel. You have such a lovely spirit and belief in yourself. We are leaving Nova Scotia in two months, driving to Morelia, with our rescue Chow, Juno. We are in our early 70's and have divested ourselves of everything we own...We look forward to your next video and watching previous ones. Cheers
@@MoraMargaret Yes! We have always lived our lives with freedom, sailing for years at a time. Written a popular travel/adventure book series. This time, by land as we seek our last home...Perhaps our paths will cross one day. Coffee's on us...
What a lovely video, and what a beautiful new place you have! The car repair story is, in my experience, Mexico in a nutshell. In personal news, my wife and I traveled to Atlanta last week and got our Temporary Resident visas!
I think one of the things that differentiates Mexican culture, and other similar cultures, is that they are not always focused on monetary exchange. I grew up in Jamaica and the same thing would have happened there with the mechanic who fixed your trunk latch. People just love to do things for each other and it's not all about money. There is a culture of sharing and generosity. They probably thought it was totally weird that you kept asking if you couldn't give him money. Even after over 40 years living in North America I still have that sense of generosity in my own actions, and I am really glad I haven't lost it. It is so rewarding to be able to give something special to someone that is easy for us to give. Thanks again Mora. I love watching your pups and feel a bit sad that mine died a year ago. At the same time I feel more able to travel now. I admire your spunk for just getting in the car and driving to Mexico with your two!
What wonderful people you have met along your travels. I look forward to watching your videos. It’s my inspiration. This is a part of Mexico I have not seen. Very beautiful. ❤
❤❤ Greetings Mora, I am so happy and blessed to have found your channel. Your videos are absolutely beautiful. Mexico is very beautiful, the people , the food and landscape. How beautiful you found your dream❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing the beauty inside and out. Keep sending your awesome energy ❤❤ Have a wonderful day
I've really grown to enjoy your videos a lot. The music, doggies, your narration, great filming... thanks for putting out great content. 😊 I'm moving to Mexico as a single lady myself next year so I appreciate your point of view.
Hi, Mora, Love, love your travel vlogs!! Mexican people are so generous and neighborly. On one of my travels to Oaxaca, I fell into a deep pot hole, and my fellow travel companions came to my rescue. Luckily, one of them was a dentist (LOL) and cleaned my knee.. This is just an anecdote of how helpfull they are. One of my fantasies is to retire in Mexico. But, one of concerns is being single woman alone without immediate family. I'm American of Mexican descent, and as you have by now learned, the culture is very close. Your videos have given me an insight of what to expect living alone. Also, it gives comfort that you were able to have your fur babies withh you! Bendiciones!
Muchas gracias! I’m glad you too have had wonderful experiences in Mexico. I understand your concerns very much. I have written about getting older in Mexico on my blog, I will leave link below. The thing is, you either do what you want and need to, or you stay in the same old situation. Life is short and, for me, after I took a look at my worries (similar to yours) and the risks, I’m so glad I made the choice to go! I hope you also are happy with whatever choice you make 💜 moramargaret.com/2024/07/21/getting-old-in-mexico/
Sweet ! I hope your contentment with your present abode continues. I moved into my current house in Ajijic on Aug 5 and didn't find out until after I signed the rental agreement that the rent included a gardener who comes twice per week and a housekeeper who comes once per week. Being one who highly values my privacy, it was a challenge to come to terms with these intrusions. I plan my daily walks and shopping excursions accordingly.
Wednesday, August 28, 2024: Mora, I feel very lucky to happen onto another video of yours on the same day. The music, the scenes, and your words are beautiful - a balm for the soul. Greetings from Juriquilla (an area about 20 minutes north of downtown Querétaro) where my husband Jorge, our Golden Retriever Buddy, and I are living very contently. We’ll celebrate three years here in Querétaro on December 9th of this year. That’s so cool your trunk was finally fixed! ¡Saludos! Joseph Quillian (a.k.a. Pepe) :-)
It’s easy to learn Spanish, just watch soaps (telenovelas) enough and you pick it up just like you learned English without studying when you were three years old. But it takes a while, doesn’t work if you’re in a hurry.
Mora I passed through Patcuaro on my moto back in the 80's. I still wonder about the Japanese pharmacist I traveled with who was doing the same but was traveling around the world back then. I went on to Belize and then returned to the U.S. This story is about the resourcefulness of the Mexicans I crossed path with. One time on my travels to Mexico I took a local bus to go down into the Copper Canyon. The Copper Canyon is as deep or deeper than the Grand Canyon. Someone had carved a steep steep dirt road into the Copper Canyon! On the bus I heard a familiar sound I knew well. There is a part on the driveshaft called a u-joint that will make a unmistakable sound when it is due for a change. So we are a good 30 miles from a small town on a hill loaded with 30 people in a bus making that sound when the bus driver pulls over on a steep steep dirt rubble filled road. Yes he was going to fix the issue. Being semi mechanical and doing that repair myself a few times but on a steep hill with no replacement bearing? He blocked off the tires and disassembled it all. Instead of a strong mechanical bearing he whips out his belt and cuts off a part to fill the space left by the bearing and we went on our way. No problemo we made it back +30 miles to the jumping off point town. I'm still shocked and salute him to this day on what that driver accomplished. I salute you too for the adventure you are on.
Hi Mora, why didn’t you take the car in for repair awhile ago? I love your videos. I told my hiking buddies yesterday about you while we were hiking. 😊 You got lucky with this home.
I did! No, I talked with a couple of people about the car but they told me I should go to the dealer and couldn’t help me. Till this angel of a mechanic!
Thank you for your videos. Can you share Julio and Emilia info? Is this an Air b&b? I'm planning to move to México and your videos have been very helpful. Thanks again and good luck finding your special place.
Would you write me an email and I will send you their number so you can contact directly? mora@moramargaret.com I don't want to put their personal number in the comments ;)
Hola Mora! What a beautiful new home for you and your pupsters! Do you plan on staying there awhile longer? With that view of the lake you are most likely experiencing what has become known as having a "blue mind" The science shows that that being near, in or just spending time around water can make you happier, healthier and more connected. A dear old surfing friend of mine who passed away in June wrote a book about this that expounds on this phenomenon. His name was Wallace J. Nichols and the book is simply called "Blue Mind" it's good read. BTW- Did the mechanic that helped you out show you how to fix your latch if it happens again? It's actually very easy. You just have to pop back open the latching mechanism that normally snaps shut around the latch base that it hits as you close the hatch. In other words you somehow hit the latching part and "snapped it closed" by accident when your hatch was up and opened. You probably hit with something while you were loading or unloading....If that makes any sense! Another BTW- Patzcuaro is one of the few larger Pueblo Magicos and is known for it's celebration of Dia de los Muertos. It's also known for it's enchiladas placeras, corudas and even though it stays pretty cool year round, it's ice cream! MMM! Mucha suerte desde la hermosa Ensenada!
I will look for those things to try in Patzcuaro! And I will keep that book on my list to check out. Thanks so much for the tips on the car latch. I will definitely remember!
@@MoraMargaret I think they meant to write corundas, not corudas. While you're in Patzcuaro be sure to visit Janitzio, an island in the middle of the lake where you could go up a 40 meter statue via a staircase that spirals to the top. Enjoy yourself while in Michoacán.
I love hearing your travel journey especially with the dogs and your love for cooler weather. I’d like be to know where you stayed when your in this video by the lake. For your privacy I understand if you prefer not to reveal until you venture onto your next great find. If at some time in the future that would be appreciated. I don’t intend to venture to Mexico until next spring to find my new retirement home. Lakes and rivers are the waters I prefer to be around. Safe travels and enjoy! Ted & Chap (dogo) in Seattle
Thanks for your comment Ted and Chap! If you don't mind sending me an email, I don't want to put their contact info in the comments. Mora@MoraMargaret.com
@@MoraMargaret Hi Ted and Chap here. Love that your able to explore so causally and share your adventures. I’m looking to set up base in the Chapala area next spring and travel from there. The attraction is the soft landing aspect that the region offers. I prefer cooler weather in the 60-70’s (80’s is ok) as I’ll be coming from the PNW. I’ve been to a lot of the Pacific Coast and Mexico City. I especially like seeing how well your dogs do and what dog amenities there are: parks, cafes, stores, vets etc. In one video had a pack of what could be considered aggressive dogs. That was very valuable to know. Safe Travels Hiway2guy@gmail.com
Hi Mora & Dogs 😀. If you are interested I'd be willing to help with Speaking Spanish as much as I can. I'm very impressed because you have the courage to venture out solo. Soon I wish to travel to Mexico... Some day 🙏🤞.
Felicidades! It's a beautiful place! Please tell me what website(s) or source(s) you use to find longer-term rentals? I'd like to know what works best in Mexico. I also would enjoy the privacy and beauty you have found, and I like to stay for 1-4 weeks when I am traveling in a new location. It makes for a good home base. If you feel it appropriate, please share how you pay for your lodgings. Is it online by credit card or do you negotiate directly and pay in cash for some places? Years ago I lived in Mexico City, and I recall most transactions were done in cash. Some credit was used, but that seemed to be the exception. I'd love to know the current situation. Thanks!
Well in Mexico "long term'" is 6 months or longer so 1-4 weeks is still (unfortunately) just covered mainly by airbnb. A few areas use craigslist like Guanajuato. As you may know airbnb works with online credit/debit cards. If I ever made a deal with a rental owner away from airbnb, I paid in cash. (this is one reason I have a rental referral page on my website, so people can skip the middle man: MoraMargaret.com) For this longer term rental I pay the monthly rent in cash. It is my first long term in Mexico and I was looking at all the sites (google casa en renta in the area you like) but I found the two houses I considered both on Facebook group pages for the expats in the area. Initially the landlady thought I could do a bank transfer but I don't have a Mexican account so cash became the way we do it.
On Airbnb. Very affordable. I'm working on a page on my website with rental referrals, but if you send me an email I'll send you the owner's contact info. He'd love it if you came. Mora@MoraMargaret.com
I wanted to find some in person lessons here in Michoacán, but so far I’m not having any luck (I’m too far from Morelia). So I’m using DuoLingo at home. Maybe I will try a teacher over the internet. I would welcome advice.
@@MoraMargaret I’m not one to give advice , I’m not fluent, but you are doing well. Duolingo is good and getting a teacher soon. I admire your honesty and the fact you have sincere desire to learn. When you settle longer it might be easier I really like your videos and that is typical of many Mexicans too fix something ( your rear door on vehicle) for us foreigners without accept payment. I had Mexican residents do the same. I had a tire blowout and a man stayed and helped 30 minutes outside his job Good travels and I need to travel more again like you’re doing But I won’t be doing RU-vid. Thanks for your videos 👍
Hi Mora, I love Patzcuaro. Have you discovered any swimmable bodies of water there? Ie Is the lake ok to swim in? I’d love to do a drive from Nayarit to Michoacan to stay in a quiet rural area but I must have the daily swim
I’m sorry, I don’t know the condition of the local lakes, except that they are being restored by good people. I hope with recent rains they will continue to be healthy. They are certainly beautiful.
My MIL, originally from MX, is looking to move back and is trying to decide on where. Would you mind if I asked how much you are renting that home for? We are trying to see what type of budget she should anticipate in different areas. Tysm!
I will make a video soon on expenses in Mexico. Both of the houses I saw for rent were very nice and each $11,000 pesos per month, or less. There are less expensive rentals in the area too.
