SciShow Psych digs into the science of...us! SciShow Psych is all about the human brain and how we humans interact with the world.
Hosts Anthony Brown, Brit Garner, and Hank Green explain ground-breaking studies, contextualize psychology throughout history, and help us understand how we understand the world.

I completely disagree that it's psychological. When I started drinking I had no preconceived notions of what different alcohols would do to me. Zero expectations. Whiskey/Tequila chills me out. I just get very relaxed. Super chill. But Vodka knocks me on my ass. I get dizzy and I lose all inhibition. How did I manufacture that psychologically without expectation?

I dont have this condition... and i DONT GET how people with this condition can rethink their memories in their head. Like- they can't see what they remember? I'm confused..😯
It's so weird that the brain has literal knobs you can turn such as "feels reality - feels like a dream" or "feels mundane - feels like being in the presence of god". Like how does that make any sense at all, evolutionarily speaking?
I can do the mind's eye thing, but it takes concentration, and the image tends to flicker in and out and be really hazy. But internal dialogue? Easy as pie!
Gained 6 pounds in week and I ate 600 cals some days, was wondering why my composition was going south and worked out 5-7 ,hours daily but discovered I binged at night.
So constant thoughts and/or conversations without sound in the brain are not the same as an inner monologue? If I actually heard a voice in my head the way I do when I actually speak, that’d be creepy to me. I can’t literally “see” something but I can certainly imagine all kinds of detailed apples instantly, like peripheral vision that’s clear in my mind. But I’m certainly not seeing anything on my eyelids with my eyes closed. I can still do the imagery with my eyes open exactly the same, like peripheral vision in my mind only it’s clear. When actually seeing things with my eyes, peripheral vision is not clear. This is confusing
You can get out of habits easier after a mushroom trip and get a different routine going, I couldnt even finish a cigarette afterwards because it almost made me throw up with how horrible it tasted.
I’ve learned hormones affect you differently at different stages of life. As a baby in the stomach hormones in amniotic fluid can shape your personality and men tend to have more testosterone than women and tend to have a more testosterone type personality. (See Helen Fischer on hormone personalities). Also up until the age of 5 a child’s personality can still be shaped by their environment! Afterwards it becomes permanent and unchangable. however it is not impossible for women to have a testosterone personality type. But obviously we are going to be the minority in comparison to men. Also men will be the minority to an estrogen personality type. But hormones affect you differently than they affect the body. Estrogen isn’t just for your personality but also for certain cells in the body. So you can have a high amount of estrogen and be fine mentally but it only affects your body. It is completely twisted and hard to figure out. Same w testosterone. I have a testosterone personality but my body is fine.
My grandmother is well over a foot shorter than my dad. But somehow, in his mind, she's taller than him. It surprises him every time he sees her. Somehow, her importance becomes confused with actual size in in his brain. BTW, this isn't a time thing. This is my mother's mother and he only met her as an adult.
This happened to me two times this year, it's so wierd and it's like when I talk I am not the one saying those words but i am the one saying it it's like my soul and my body are not the same......these happen to me cause the 1st time is when I ran, a dog came running with me and bumped into me, and it just happen(I am severely scared of song small and big) ...... The 2nd time is when we go to the water park as a school trip, we suddenly slide down the long and big slide with my friends and when I came down it happen all over again..... It's really really uncomfortable.
1:49, you probably mean “how we interpret signals from our environment”. I haven’t tried those magic mushrooms but if you use understand instead of interpret then you are contradicting yourself because sensing the world is also understanding it
The only thing I disagree with majorly in this video is that people consider midlife something that happens when you turn a certain age. Most of the people I know that have gone through a mid-life crisis AKA midlife opportunity did not pay attention to how old they were just turning 40 while others were just turning 50. I think it's different for everyone
No! But it tries too hard to pass off as one. Although Psychiatry is Science as opposed to Psychology. Atleast Psychiatrists are trained Medical Doctors who actually undergo rigorous Scientific Medical training. Insofar as I have known, Psychology was always part of the humanities/ Arts majors. Its only lately in the West that I see too many folks now trying to push Psychology and Sociology as "sciences". To put it bluntly, Psychological sessions are a worthless privilege for a lazy/ decaying Western society which has gotten rid of the Joint Family system, religion, culture, traditions and traditional wisdom passed on generations to generations. All that has been replaced by stuff like Psychology, Wokeism, Sociological constructs etc. The rest of the world looks at this and laughs out loud. You are better off with traditional religion and the wisdom of your elders as opposed to wasting your hard earned money on some slimy fraudulent Psych "professional" trying to advise you on your "mental health issues". It worked just fine for most of humanity down the ages and it sure worked well for me. A lot of Psy research is a joke and their treatments seem to have very little tested effect anyway despite the huge amount of questionable placebo. At least when I visit a Physical Therapist or an Osteopath or a Dentist/ Medical Doctor - there are clear positive effects for the most part which can be felt, replicated and above all based on hardcore scientific rational and methodology.
I'll tell you what it's like. A lifelong curse. I was screwed before conception. But, thankfully I put it to use with crypto right after corona. Now I have my dream catamaran sailboat and I'm literally sailing away. I wish you all the best with what's about to happen. Two years tops, before something Big kicks off. 😋
STOP PUTTING FLUORIDE IN YOUR BODY. THE GOVERNMENT IS POISONING YOUR BRAIN. THOSE IS THEIR PLAN IN ORDER TO KEEP YOU UNDER CONTROL.>>>FACT<<< PROVE ME WRONG.
The reason why you are forgetting is because the government is brainwashing everyone, they are putting society in an extremely stressful situation. They are pumping poison in our food and water. It’s just not you. YOU ARE BEING ATTACKED ON A DAILY BASIS AND DONT REALIZE IT. STOP PUTTING FLUORIDE IN YOUR BODY.

Psychedelic therapy is a significant advancement in mental health treatment. It's remarkable because it benefits both recreational and health purposes. It helped me overcome depression and anxiety.
Would it be a stretch to believe his personality wasn't changed from direct damage to the frontal lobe but because he was resentful to society because they looked at him differently for having a big hole in his head? Similar to amputy patients when they lose a limb...
