I've been in a relationship for 18 years we where polar opposites. I'm a street kid blue collar hard working guy who doesn't believe in soul mates. Lost my family my sister died my brother ran away so did my dad. My mom turned into a depressed wreck (obviously and understandably).Then I unfortunately did bunch of drugs slept with a bunch of women just the worst. I end up isolating myself for years sobered up went celibate. Then I meant Harmony she never did drugs never had sex finished high school and went to college. We grew up in the same place and knew mostly the same people but lead different lives. We got to know each other and finally was intimate after 11 months. She got pregnant and had our first child then six years later had our second. We got married after that and three years later had our third and last. Today I'm a extreme shut in and don't use social media and she's the complete opposite using ever platform on the planet lol. But even to this day I'm still unsure of everything but being left and abandoned like I was I would never want my wife or my children to go through what I went through so I'm willing to go to distance not for me but for them. Have a great day peace.

me being an aromantic: interesting... kinda personally wished there were more studies which would analyse how *not* feeling initial romantic attraction would affect relationship dynamics but I also know how difficult it would be to find enough open aromantic people for studies. at least without looking explicitly for them on subreddits like r/aromantic that is and asking them to participate in an online survey

On physical similarities attraction & genetically similar couples: Did the study account for ethnicity? People traditionally marry within their ethnicity, esp if they are from a small town or other side isolated community. That could explain all the study’s findings.

@OakenTome 2 года назад
Marrying within an ethnicity means you’re marrying someone who probably looks like you and has genetic similarities, so it’s kind of a moot point. There’s a reason why we marry within an ethnicity.

I think that the ability to discern correct from incorrect at a rational/logical level can itself be considered an emotion on which we can and do base decisions all the time. That 'makes sense' vs 'doesnt make sense' discernment is associated with brain regions such as the dACC, which is also involved in the experience of both physical and social pain.

That's why so many people I know in the donor-conceived community have near-miss stories where they almost dated someone who turned out to be their half-sibling. It's unnervingly common for us to be attracted to our half-siblings, so not great that we aren't able to know who they are, especially since most of us don't know that we're donor-conceived and should be wary.
@KOKO-uu7yd
@KOKO-uu7yd Год назад
I've actually kinda wondered about that! I hope there's SOME way for you and your (community? prob not the right word, but...😅) to counter that...🤔🤞🤞💞
@TiggerIsMyCat
@TiggerIsMyCat Год назад
@@KOKO-uu7yd No, community is exactly what it is. And not really. It's better than it was thankfully with the advent of commercial DNA testing, but people don't know what they don't know, and nobody ever kept accurate records, nor do banks or clinics like to give out any records they did keep, so DNA testing is our only recourse, but we can only find people who happen to take a DNA test, so it's just luck of the draw, since it's estimated that like 90% of donor conceived people aren't aware that they are.
@TiggerIsMyCat
@TiggerIsMyCat Год назад
@@KOKO-uu7yd Also, to be clear, it's extremely rare for anyone to be attracted to someone they KNOW is a sibling. These stories are always from before people knew. A good number of people have very unsupportive partners because their partners think we're going to somehow be uncontrollably attracted to our biorelatives, for whatever reason

A big issue here, tho: "Partner" -- that's a Big word. Just because you're seeing each other and excited, doesn't make you Partners [in life]. Utilizing the term too loosely may sound like splitting hairs -- but it can tend to lead things astray utilizing it, thus connecting dots to trends that really don't fit, thus, making you believe inaccurate conclusions. For instance: Ghosting [Life] Partners? No explanation, poof, gone? No. That's a rarity. Although on dating-conversation sites, you'll see the word "Partner" used too loosely, when it was someone they were merely dating and calling them a boyfriend or girlfriend wasn't so applicable -- thus, giving you the wrong idea that it happens a lot with [Life] Partners. To project the right idea, one will want to classify different 'categories' which bring different results. You can say this video does go into segments, but not really. See in the 1st segment -- you guessed it -- it was referring to "Partners" when it dealt with initial attraction.
@MM-bw2lu
@MM-bw2lu 2 года назад
i think the reason you see the term "partner" being used is because people want to find a gender neutral term for boyfriend/ girlfriend. most of the time you can glean from context which kind of "partner" is being addressed in a conversation, so i really dont see it as an issue

Still searching for an explanation of what happened in my recently failed relationship. Can’t get any answers from my ex, except to say that: A). She feels I ignored her “requests” (her word). I have combed back through WhatsApp to try and uncover what she means by these (she’s never sent me a letter, and I obviously can’t rely on my memory); all I can find is her asking me to “take the reins” and, when I made subsequent efforts to arrange time together, she never made herself available. B). Communication from her began to fizzle out. When finally responding to a direct appeal from me as to what had changed, what was going on, how she felt, she said she’d “run out of ways” to communicate with me - well she didn’t - she basically stopped. C). She said we don’t understand each other. True. Difference is, I kept wanting to try. D). Again, only after a direct appeal from me for an explanation from her, she came out with the bombshell piece of news, she’s dating again. This comes about a week after she sent a brief message apologising that she forgot my birthday three weeks earlier. E). All throughout our relationship, even before I moved cities to live nearby, I would be the one to initiate conversations and check in with her, seeing how her day / week was going and asking for news, arranging time to spend together. She asked me to move near her, after we’d spent months only seeing each other at weekends. I now live a few streets away, and for months it’s been nigh on impossible to get time with her even for a cup of tea. I think I have some sort of attachment issue that can account in part for how things have turned out. I am the flower-sending, cake-baking, gift-giving, cuddle-loving demonstrative type. I bonded quickly with my ex’s daughter, who I miss terribly. I’m also a pain in the arse. Fear has dogged my life for years, I work hard in a low-pay job during the day and yet have proven talents in performance that I haven’t fully been bold enough to work with and mould into a proper career. My family history involves nearly being made a ‘ward of court’ as an infant due to my parents’ struggles, the trauma of losing a sibling in an RTA (I witnessed it) as a small boy, behavioural problems and academic disappointments at school and later college, parents suffering clinical depression and bipolar and going through a messy, bitterly fought divorce. All the usual fun stuff. Perhaps I’ve allowed myself to operate on autopilot for too long, but I plan from hereon in to live life with my eyes open and in better awareness of whatever complications I and my assumptions/ programming can bring to situations, as far as I can. I’m going to try and embrace discomfort and fear, draw a line under the past and work on looking after myself better. Any future relationship can only benefit from the work I put in, even if I can do nothing to salvage or heal the one I’ve just been informed I have been cut adrift from.
