Managing Idaho’s fish, wildlife, and habitat for the future.
In 1899, Idaho Fish and Game was appointed as the State’s guardians to preserve, protect, perpetuate, and manage Idaho's wildlife.
This is a collection of videos where we bring our fish and wildlife opportunities, stories, and programs to the public while inviting followers along on our ongoing 125-year journey. Together, we can continue to cherish and protect Idaho’s wildlife for the future.
Standard outreach to government agencies to please contribute new infrastructure info to crowdsourced OpenStreetMap OSM. Bonus points for DIY crowdsourced Mapillary KartaView Mapilio street-level ground-truth images (no waiting for Google, Apple, Bing camera cars to visit!)
So awesome! Love to see this. Now let’s get one built over highway 20 between Pine Featherville turn and hill city! Another no brainer spot. lt would save so many animals and prevent so many collisions.
These overpasses are an excellent way to protect Idaho's valuable wildlife and drivers with passengers who have to travel through wildlife corridors in Idaho. One of the costliest errors I ever saw done was a system of tunnels placed beneath the interstate south of Malta when that interstate was put in. Obviously designed by an engineer who knew nothing about wild animal behavior 🤣
Fantastic. I am happy to hear tracks were seen when the overpass was opened. That stretch of highway should be MUCH safer for drivers and for the herds utilizing the underpass and overpass.
0:50 "Cutthroats are only found in the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Northwest" ? Nope, we got so many Cutthroats in the Eastern Sierras (not part of the Pacific Northwest) that the limit on them and ONLY them is ten fish per day and every other trout here is five ! Facts, just the facts ma'am
Sad. Very evident you have no knowledge on Idahos true wilderness, but perhaps thats a wonderful thing. Less ignorant people. Stay out! We are happy to hear you wont be around :)
Ling fishing was a little slower this year for me but was good. Seems like a lot of smaller ones this year over last year. I ended up with 20 fish caught but only kept 6 that were over 20”. Turned in my creel report yesterday and looking forward to next season
Nice Eagle nest build video. Except, Eagles don’t use ground nests. Nor do they appreciate metal stairs leading up into it. I hope no taxpayer money was used to make that.
Idaho Fish and Game doesn't receive ANY general taxpayer revenue. It's funded by the sale of licenses and federal excise taxes on hunting and fishing equipment.
The ‘Grizzly Bear’ of Idaho is Ursus arctos horribilis. The Kodiak/Alaskan ‘Brown Bear’ is Ursus arctos middendorffi. The Grizzly Bear is a sub-species of Brown Bear. The American Black Bear is Ursus americanus. Their coloring can be black to white including brown or cinnamon-colored.
Absolutely beautiful. Keep up the good work. Thank you, and thank you to my amazing daughter Alexa Rae Wylie Ballinger for her work & contributions to our planet. ❤
Nice message. Now for a short list of animals that have disappeared from the neighborhood just in the last decade as urban sprawl consumes Idaho countryside in the Treasure Valley, Northern Harrier, Long billed Curlew, Black footed Jackrabbit, Swainson's Hawk, Western Meadowlark. Barn Owl, Northern Leopard frog... This on top of all the animals that have disappeared earlier before the last wave of urban sprawl.
Northern Harrier still here. I see them all the time. See Jackrabbits in the large open fields. Had a Swainson’s Hawk and Cooper’s Hawk frequently visit my backyard. All those animals birds, raptors are still there. Sounds like you passively aggressively mad about what has happened throughout the United States of America since long ago. People do relocate, and nor so when you have leaders ruining the way things used to be, and making the situation worse. You don’t own the State, nor do all the other whining yahoos. You don’t like the situation…move!
@@kg2005USMC they won't be there much longer, as they have already been forced out in much of the TV. Some of us prefer to fight rather than go yellow belly up. Sounds like SoCal would be a great place for you.
Well you must have not heard a damn thing from the non resident... Thanks for not hearing us, don't worry we won't be able to come back thanks to your tag system you created, so I won't be hunting/ fishing or Even vacationing/camping in Idaho so I Guess you can find a resident to help pay for all your wildlife.
I'm glad F&G is focusing on Cutthroat. Perhaps hoot owl restrictions on popular stretches should be implemented. Or maybe don't stock moving water so heavily with rainbows that are competing with cutthroat.
Beautiful video and fish, even the rainbow trout at 5:34 minutes in 😅. If anyone wants to help volunteer on restoration projects I highly recommend it! You’ll learn a lot and have greater satisfaction enjoying the natural places you helped improve.
Your vlog has been such a source of comfort and inspiration for me, especially during this past year. I appreciate how honest and vulnerable you are in sharing your experiences, both the highs and the lows. Watching your vlog feels like catching up with an old friend, and I always come away feeling more connected to the world around me. Thank you for being a bright spot in my day. 🌞
The Mule Deer management plan is definitely not working. Something needs to change. Maybe lets start with admission that your more worried about $$ than actually managing populations. The fact that you can't even admit that the decline of Mule Deer is a huge problem is the actual problem. If nothing else maybe try managing Mule Deer hunts like you do Elk. Make people pick a Deer zone and manage those zones accordingly.
I am from Utah where we have the Utah Cutthroat Slam. It came to Utah via the Wyoming Cutthroat Slam which was created by Ron Remmick and brought to Utah by someone who worked with Ron named Paul Thompson. It has brought awareness to the public of the importance of Cutthroat restoration and brought funding to help pay for the restoration of the native areas. Is Idaho going to create a Cutthroat slam?
I think you'd have to have four sub-species for a "slam"? Idaho officially has three; Yellowstone, Bonneville and West Slope. They'd have to break out the Snake River fine-spotted from Yellowstone to make a fourth I guess. (edit: looks like there are some Lahontans too, but not native).
As a big fan of Trout challenges and slams, Idaho could totally do a native trout slam with bulls, redbands and cutthroats and even whitefish included. I do appreciate that they support WNTI though and enjoyed catching bulls, redbands and Westslopes in 2022. They got my money for a 4 days because of their participation in WNTI challenge. Was a great trip camping out in beautiful country.
