I dont think the English country music guy realised that the Stars and Bars was the flag of the pro slavery faction. He has no idea in his fervor for cultural appropriation that the "Rebel Flag" is a symbol of oppression He thinks its just a cool image from The Dukes of Hazzard

Dave Swarbrick has been a musical influence on me as a violin player with his amazingly diverse command of everything it takes to remove any presupposed distinctions between 'fiddle' and 'violin' music, or between folk rock and psychedelia for that matter! In any case, Fairport Convention was and is a great connection to what it means to Be In the Moment. And there is nowhere that this occurs more directly than in playing music that way. Check out also, "What We Did On Our Holidays".

Made in 1997 you wouldn't know the folk revival was already underway, Palace Brothers and others in the US serving up accustic lowfi, Alasdair Roberts in Scotland collecting and recording traditional and modern songs, first with Appendix Out. In 1996, All The Pretty Little Horses song cycle with Current 93, and Nick Cave, restarting Shirely Collin's lapsed musical career...

Impossible to think such a beautiful concert would be allowed, let alone celebrated, in the racist cesspit that modern day Britain has become.

Even ‘lip syncing’ as they were here, they were natural and effective and fun to watch - Phil’s background as a stage actor and theater person really gave him a little extra pizazz as a performer.

Ha, that's Ashley Hutchings MBE. As Bob Dylan said of him, "Ashley Hutchings is the single most important figure in English folk rock." He did, and still does take his job as the Guvnor, very seriously.

The latest DVD reissue of the movie has a commentary by Tony Palmer denying every one of the allegations made about him here and saying it was an honour to work with such a genius. However the Zappa trust superbox CD set has the audio of him threatening to burn the rushes. We shall never know.

Fantastic to see Fairport in action at this time in their lives. However just dreadful videography - always a hand or an elbow or the end of a guitar in the way of seeing somebody, too much time spent showing us their backs, and absolutely no camera on their instruments as they are playing the incredible music. Would have loved close-ups of Richard as he was playing Sloth. The cameramen were evidently not musicians.

Is there anyone who can tell me please what type of electric violin is the one played in this video (and in a number of Cropredys and other concerts in the second half of the 80s) by Ric Sanders? The brand, the name of the model, etc. Thank you very much!

Phil was on drums on those backing tracks you heard here - they were performing to pre-recorded tracks, actually the original recording, it sounds like to me; I would’ve loved to hear a loose natural performance with just the three of them, but they were selling a record and this was an advertisement for it, for sure.
