*It's always a pleasure to hear Penelope Keith talk. What wasn't so pleasant, was having to once again sit through Michael Parkinson being the 'acceptable', sexist bore he's no idea of being. I don't know how on earth she endured it*
Hubble to me is a weak man. Kate has responsibility in accepting his behavior. It really showed who Hubble really was when he obviously at the end wasn’t a part of his daughter’s life. “How is she?” Hubble asks and not referring to her by name. Pathetic. What a selfish, weak man.
That deleted scene about Frank McVieh was so important. Yes, you could infer that they broke up over their difference in their passions but THIS makes it so specific and in my opinion, so much more intense and urgent.
I 100% agree with Barbra Streisand, the film never made sense how they just broke up so quickly and easily while they seemed so in love. And if she could forgive him for cheating? I'm so glad that she re-released the movie with the deleted scenes and the scene with her seeing her younger self at UCLA that was so important too!! Women understand this content, I think it's men that don't get it. But knowing that it was because of being blackballed and he would be in danger, that is so important to this film. It gives it the depth it deserves! And makes it even more rich. Thanks for this content. I'm going out to buy the re-released version.
Dame Patricia Routledge is extremely Talented! I Love Keeping Up Appearances! She was excellent in the 1967 movie To Sir With Love! She Is excellent in everything she does! Beautiful recording! Beautiful Song! Patricia Routledge has a beautiful singing voice!

Parkinson was awful interviewing young attractive women in this period (his interview with Helen Mirren around the same time is famously toe curling). He did get a lot better as he aged and his later interviews were in a different league (though he had a wobble with Meg Ryan).
Are there other people onstage besides Joan Collins? Because she's all I can see. She so outshines everybody she shares the stage or screen with and they all disappear in the light of her dazzling beauty, charisma and stage presence.
This is just exquisite. And Dame Patricia is mistress of the English language and perfect diction. Miriam Margolyes has much to say about sloppy speech (all of which I agree with) - I think she and Patricia might get on well with each other. UK. E ❤
I was 14 when I saw this episode. Down thru the years, I had a vague recollection of a beautiful song in a Ghost Story episode about an old house and a swing. Forty-five years later, I found the series available on DVD so I ordered it, hoping to see if the song would still affect me. When I watched the DVD's and heard it in this episode, I was happy to find that my memory of a beautiful song was not an imagined spectre. It was just as captivating as when I first heard it at 14.
Joan Collins, not really known for being a song and dance actress, holds her own in this movie's musical numbers. And that couldn't have been easy with Shirley and Debbie standing next to you. I own the dvd and have wore this movie out lol
Richard Briers and Penelope Keith have been 2 of my favorite comedy actors since back in the 70's. I Like Tom Conti also. I have seen The Norman Conquest 2 or 3 times. And all the Good Neighbors shows many times. And both of them in other shows also. I waited all week to see their programs.
