I remember my brothers and I would pile into the same bedroom to watch this on Sundays when we were kids in the 90s. We were always so happy when there was an Oswald skit.
We have a manager at work that we call Oswald Bates because she's so desperate to be relevant that she tries to sound smart and uses big words incorrectly. We don't say anything to her. We just let her make a fool of herself.
You all know why thats funny? Because in the 90's The black community were big on using big words that somehow made its way into the hood. This is a play on that but obviously using them in the wrong way.
Damon was the absolute man, I remember watching these as a child and seeing my mom laugh harder than she ever had before. Only one in his league was Jim.
The actual inspiration for oswald bates is Dhoruba Bin Wahad. That's who the character is based on. Watch some dhoruba bin wahad interviews, and you'll notice the similarities 😂
They don't mention it in the video but twenty years later Oswald becomes a professor at an elite inner city institution and awards his top student with a PhD... Dr. Kanye West
