Lovely to see you back on video. Great to see some blue sky in the background. How are the water temps doing off Whitby at the moment? Getting a SIB this year to do plenty of close in fishing. Nice to learn from chaps like yourself. Tight lines for the summer.
Another informative session Andy! Just one question, Ive have just bought a 10-50g lure rod, but I did notice you were using your lighter rod out of the 2, but with a 4oz lead ? I know you were not casting as such, but its a lump compaired to a 30g lure! Regards Andy
Hi Andy. The 10-50g rod is an HTO Lure Game and has a more progressive action than the Saltist rod you see me use. As you said, the rods are rated for casting weight. I’ve found that I can work both rods with leads of up to 6oz no problem at all as there isn’t any casting involved. Just a short flick uptide sometimes if the wind is blowing. Of the two rods, I prefer the Saltist for this type of work and even working a 6oz lead, it doesn’t feel overloaded. 👍
Thanks very much. I like to use the Termalinks from Trident Tackle. I’m not sponsored, but really like the clip and the way it protects the knot. Regards, Andy
Excellent video where you been thought you fell off the earth I watch a million videos and rate your stuff so highly I used to chase the big fish but through ill health have scaled back and this is my way of fishing now nothing more than 100grams now if you get the chance could you do something on the light slow jigging micro jigging tai rubbers etc it’s such a enjoyable way to fish
Thanks very much Kevin. I've really struggled to get out and film anything with the poor weather. We've had the worst winter we can remember for rubbish weather. This year alone I've already had to cancel over 120 days, so when the weather is good, I need to be out earning some wages. When there is a window with the right conditions, I love to go out and film. Hopefully I'll get out a few more times this year. I'm enjoying fishing successively with lighter and lighter tackle. it's just fantastic fun. Once I've honed my skills a bit more, I'll have a go with the Slow Jigging and Micro Jigs. All the best, Andy
Thanks for taking the time to reply Andy things are getting harder for the likes of yourself with the charter business they are like local pubs vanishing every week there has been several from Hartlepool and only 3 remaining from Sunderland where I fish from
@@kevinmccourt651I know what you’re saying Kevin. I’m a positive person and always try and make the trips on Sea Urchin a good experience, irrespective of how much we catch. I think a lot of the “Freezer Fillers” are not coming so often now, which for me is great, because the majority of the anglers who come aboard now, come for a day’s fishing out at sea and catching is viewed as a bonus. If they happen to get a box full, fantastic….but that’s not their primary reason for coming. They enjoy the day for what it is. Those are the anglers that I find are still coming regularly and they’re fantastic company. 👍
Good to see you back on the water and creating some content, have always enjoyed your videos. I like shad fishing along with slow pitch jigging sadly the weather has stopped me getting out much all through June maybe only five times and then we have been plagued with haddock, legal size but no meat on them which has made the cod fishing very poor, hopefully they will have moved off when I am back home in August and the weather gets better. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the kind words Brian. The ground fishing hasn't been great this year so far has it. There are certainly still a lot of small Haddock on the ground. I would like to think that by August some of the better stamp fish will have returned once again. Best regards, Andy 👍
Andy i watched all your previous vids but thought you had thrown the towel in , loved this vidio keep them coming you could get a great following on you tube if you keep to the straight talk not BS like some of the others . People want to see straight talk rather than BS honesty always wins ,.
I love making the videos and have loads of different things I want to try. The hard part is finding time to go and film. Weather and Charters always seem to get in the way! 😂 Thanks for taking the time to comment. Best Regards, Andy
Hi Jamie. I take ten anglers out every day that the weather allows. When I get an opportunity to do a bit of filming it’s usually a day where I’ve had to cancel but there’s a weather window available 👍
The last time I fished Whitby was aboard Sea Trek with skipper Stuart. He invited us to his home for a barbecue and then we fished the festival the day after. Great memories and great fishing. I'm not sure if he still does sea fishing trips as I heard he sold seatrek.
Thanks very much Damon, I'm glad that you found it useful. There's always lots of different ways to catch the fish, but I've found this to work well around Whitby. Best regards, Andy
When I worked ground works I did not have a clue of the job when i started coming at the time off a farm. But I learned one thing. watch someone who knows what they are doing and learn from them. I ended up running some jobs. I would learn a lot from you as you are strait forward in your idea as to how to fish. so I would rape you for all your info as to how to fish in the sea. By the way, I love Whitby been there a number of times after fossils.
I have a 3.2m air deck inflatable with a 9.9hp, looking to comes to Whitby to get experience of using the boat in salt water (plenty of river experience) . Choose Whitby for the harbour launch. Once I get some experience with the sailing part I'm going to do some fishing too, so watching your vids with interest. Can you give me any advice for best Whitby conditions, wind direction, wave size etc., for a small craft like mine? I'm never planning on going very far out of course. Just don't want to have wasted drives up there or struggle the second I get outside the wall. Thx for replies.
Hi Andrew. I'm not an unhelpful person, but I don't want give advice on "best tides" and "best winds" over the internet. There are a lot of factors which determine whether we go to sea or not (not just wind and tide) and could well be misinterpreted by someone who is inexperienced if I were to advise.. One thing to always be concious of is that Whitby is a North Facing Port, so any wind from NW round to SE comes to us unabated by land, so always have that at the forefront of your mind. If you're planning on heading out to sea in a small craft, I would honestly advise doing an Online Course at the very minimum. Navathome are great to deal with. So that would be my piece of advice. www.navathome.com/rya-day-skipper.aspx?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxJnPjsX4hAMVH5lQBh14HwEpEAAYASAAEgJm-PD_BwE regards Andy
I was brought up in Maske by sea, my dad had a boat that was launched off a trailer at Saltburn. We used to catch cod, whiting, ling, mackerel etc. But, this was 50 years ago. I'm knocking on a bit now. Great video, thank you.
Thanks very much for your kind words. I’m sure you must have some fantastic memories and fishing stories from back in the glory days. Best Regards, Andy 👍
Thanks Ben. I’ve had quite a few Century Rods over the years. 3 sets of different carp rods, plus boat and shore rods. I’ve always found them to be ultra reliable, great build quality and components and even more importantly, they’re an absolute joy to use. 👌👌
I agree with Surfpet31 - very watchable and informative. If I had the chance to visit Whitby for a boat trip this would be my first choice - thanks for a lovely vid
Thanks for the kind words. I don’t use any leader at all. In the event of becoming snagged up, if you use a breaker correctly (plenty of wraps of braid around it) the braid will break at the weakest point which is the knot at the end where the crane swivel is attached. That way you don’t lose any braid. Regards Andy
New subscriber loved it I am definitely going to book a trip with you this year, keep the videos coming they keep me going till I can get on the water myself but its a bit difficult as i live right in the middle of the country ...Hope to soon meet you in person .
Ayup Andy that wreck is it the tarman ? In line with a white building,,,,fished it 35 years ago, rammed with huge ling,,,,they were the knee deep days,,,,,,awesome,,,,,😊
