Thanks for stopping by! I've been tearing things apart since I was but a wee lad... Fresh Old School is all about celebrating the "goods" of bygone years. Taking old blown out but hip stuff and giving it new life. Repurposing, refreshing, and renewing the things that others might just discard. Did you just score a deluxe old two-door post that's been rusting away? Or rescue an abandoned log house before it was used to toast marshmallows? Maybe you've got a sick old console radio that you want to modernize, or clarinet that your uncle was going to toss out... Whatever the story, if you've got an idea or a project: GO FOR IT!

Maybe you're just interested in what it's like to run a small business in a small town, or how to run a successful Etsy shop. If you dig anything vintage, throwback, old school or cars and guitars and music and like to see stuff taken apart: SUBSCRIBE to the FRESH OLD SCHOOL channel!

So, let me ask this question. When I press most notes on my keyboard, it's like the glide is on., and that just pressing one note or any note. Not 2 at the same time. Is this due to dirty contacts on the keyboard keys. And, it's not on all keys but a majority. Some keys play normally. Thanks!

This whole operation would have been a lot nicer if it had audio to explain exactly what you are doing. I have 2 MiniMoogs badly in need of restoration. You obviously KNOW what you are doing BUT I certainly don't. Anything electronic is SCARY, even moreso without the knowledge to fix it.

Have you ever covered an amp with canvas? Would you recomend it? I am building myself a combo organ and am considering using canvas instead of tolex as a budget friendly option.
@FreshOldSchool
@FreshOldSchool 27 дней назад
Yes! I used heavy waxed army surplus green on a few amps. Look up “The Anvil” or the “Marshal Law” at the Deluxe Amplification website. You’ll see them. Canvas has threads that can pull out and run if you aren’t careful with orientation. So use a really sharp blade and change it often. You can also shellac canvas afterward.

Will automotuve spray adhesive like headliner adhesive spray work? I have some laying around id like to use up
@FreshOldSchool
@FreshOldSchool 27 дней назад
Hmmm. Maybe. Couldn’t hurt to try! The nice thing about tolex glue is that it can be reworked with a heat gun. Headliner adhesive might not. Been a while since I’ve used it. Back in the day tho… seems like I had a stable of cars that had sagging headliners that I repaired. The downside of that adhesive is that when you use it you’ll never remember the process down the road. Haha.

Fender case vid ? I have two with a weird stickiness due to faulty covering from factory but they are custom for the instruments so would love to recover. Or have to toss cause the finish is dissolving thru the covering.
@FreshOldSchool
@FreshOldSchool 27 дней назад
Yikes. I’d try and save them if you can. If they are shellacked they probably didn’t dissolve real flakes but used something with waxiness in it. The real stuff isn’t tacky. You might get away with just a sealer coat.

@FreshOldSchool
@FreshOldSchool 2 месяца назад
Different models are worth different amounts. Condition is a factor. Without an organ to connect and test it you wont be able to get as much as you could. There’s a tag on the bag that says the model # if you decide to list it on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.

The paper will be too heavy if you fill too much. It is better use low density sponge (EVA) to fill into the cabinet of amp. Other, it is better to plug out the tubes during you shipping it.
@FreshOldSchool
@FreshOldSchool 27 дней назад
Mostly paper is cheap and if you use it well the tubes won’t shift. Pretty much all production amps ship with tubes installed. Once back in the day I sold a BF deluxe reverb on EBay (20 years ago) and I took the tubes out and wrapped them separately. Dude got the amp and said it was broken and wouldn’t work. Took it to a tech and wanted me to pay for it. Tech found a tube jammed in with the index key broken. So ever since then I just leave them in and pack the cavity well. Never had a tube fallout and I’ve shipped a gozillion since then.

Tolex is vinyl, which is highly toxic, especially when heated and in the form of micro particles. So heating up vinyl with a heat pistol and scratching it off is a very bad idea, health-wise

Just finished my Deluxe-sized cab using this tutorial - it was very helpful, and it's very challenging to get the cuts right. Also, he doesn't include gluing the top and bottom pieces, which were the most challenging - contact cement-wise.

What/where is the pin connector cord coming out of the Leslie connected to? Did you say you have yours plugged into a pre-amp? I have a Leslie 205 with a type 6148-1 built in amp. I'm not sure how to run a guitar through it. Thanks.

First thing I’d look up is Dr Fishsticks. He makes the cheapest/best entry level connectors to hook stuff into Leslies. If he’s got one for that model you’re golden. The Trek ii preamp I’ve got was expensive but it covers several Leslie types.

The outside 22ish degree can be done without slitting the edge face. Lap your corners ans then do 1 cut for perfect seams. Respectfully, change or ditch the gloves after glueup. That was painful and awkward to watch.
