I finally got these parts together and built a talkbox. Easy build. Not expensive. Selenium D250X driver. Kemo M034N 40 Watt Universal Mono Amplifier Module. 12VDC power supply. Footswitch (optional).
My wife came in at the end. Felt like a dork and she totally thinks I'm nuts.

Yep. They’ve been around a long time. You can find black and white footage of them used on pedal steel from the 50s!
