Serena did a better job exposing the Davenport movement when Lindsay wasn’t 100% in her ball striking

Justine's tennis was absolutely there already, while her mental toughness still needed further development. The way she suddenly raised her unforced errors once she got to 4-0 breakpoint up in the second set, slowing her footwork and showing hesitation here and there in her shot making and shot selection, is rather untypical of what she was about to become just a mere 12 months after this.

Schiavone is underrated. Her win at Roland Garros was surprising, however completely deserved, and she confirmed the year after by reaching the final again. She sometimes struggled against the power hitters, but overall her grit, fight and athleticism was among the best.

In this match Serena had the upper hand she played very well. There were moments (very few and far between) when I thought sharapova would put up a decent challenge or come back with renewed enthusiasm but alas any such hopes quickly faded. Good game. Congratulations to Serena on a well deserved victory

Dementiava for me was one of the best if not the best player to never win a slam. Needed a steady serve soooooo badly. Ugh

Clijsters truly invented the split on hardcourt and grass, literally everyone slides in some way in today’s game! While watching this I realized even more that Hingis really wasn’t prepared for the power and speed of Venus, Serena, Kim, and Justine. The four of them brought in a varied combination of power, speed, athleticism, touch, and endurance that the women’s game didn’t have, prior to them! Hingis did not adapt well. Which is why the four have been able to either have longer careers (Serena, Venus, Justine) or retire and comeback and win more slams in a different era (Kim).

Two of my all-time favourite women's players. Also loved Evert, Navratilova, Sabatini, Seles - players with character and contrasting styles. Currently, WTA tennis is a bunch of clumsy bots and pretty much unwatchable...... But Justine is top of that pile!

Jennifer Capriati had the ability to trouble Serena. She dominated Serena in 2001 because she was the better player for most of that year, but once Serena hit her first prime in late 2001 to 2003 Wimbledon she beat her 8 consecutive times. Some of the matches were very close, but Serena won. After Wimbledon 2003, the head to head was 9-4 in Serena's favour. It was after Serena came back from knee surgery in 2004 that Jennifer managed to beat her 3 times including the controversial us open match where Serena was clearly robbed. There's something about her game that troubled Serena, but when Serena was playing at her best There's nothing Jennifer can do. She was a great player though.

Kournikova was playing so beautifully the first set. I think she just became more passive with those two-handed slices and Vee settled in towards the end.

懐かしい、ラドワンスカ😮 全豪オープンでプレーを見たけど、ミスが少なく、独特の間合いからフラットに振り抜くショットの伸びが凄かった記憶があります。 またプレーを見てみたい。

There was a racquet encrusted with diamonds at this tournament that would go to anyone who was able to win the tournament three years out of five (tournament was sponsored by Proximus Diamonds). Venus came agonisingly close to a third title in 2005, being a set up in the final against Mauresmo (and probably ahead in the second set too). Ironically, Mauresmo won that match and won the tournament the next two years to end up with the racquet!

This was such a brilliant match. Two unbelievable players even though Henin was past her prime she still had the game to beat anyone, just not the same body anymore.

I WAS THERE IN THAT YEAR.AND CONSIDERING JUSTINE MENTAL STATE AT THE TIME,,,,,THIS MATCH PUT JUST ABOUT ALL 2024 WOMEN TENNIS TO.SHAME SHAME SHAME.....AS REAL ALL COURT TENNIS WITH NO NOTICEBLE GRUDGING NOISES.JUST PURE UNREAL TENNIS.........JUSTINE BACKHAND IN MY RATING IS ACTUALLY 1 BETTER THAN ROGERS,,,,,,,,,AS SHE PLAY IT WITH SO MUCH EASE...IT REALLY A LESSON FOR ALL SINGLE HANDED BACK HANDER IN THE 2024 ERA TO WATCH/LEARN/CORRECT AND PRACTICE.......LB.FOR LB...HER BACKHAND IS ALOT ORE DEADLY THAN ROGER 'S ALSO.

safina will always sit at number 1 as best player without slam. too bad her career doesnt last long.. seriously her last competitive match was in 2011 when she just only 25/26. current player have their peak at that same age.. maybe she started so sooo young so that body unable to handle tense physical demand of being professional athlete. 😢

Venus had to play 3 matches in 24 hours and I think this was the 3rd match. Capriati, who was clearly the fresher of the player, knew this going into the match. they didnt show it in this highlight reel but after Venus won the first set, Capriati smashed her racket into her bag and crushed her water bottle in frustration of losing the first set. Venus was always a bad match up for Capriati because Jennifer had to play defensively against her.
