Actually, we skipped a RTT and went straight to a camper. Did that for a reason. Can't stand up in a RTT. Can stand up in the camper. Might not seem like a difference, but it's actually quite massive. We still have our Gazelle and will be camping with it in the Southwest out of our LX. We still maintain that ground tents are (perhaps) better than RTT's.
Nice video!! Sounds like a great trip!!! The wife and I visited Gold Butte a few years ago. I really want to camp there somewhere. We made it down to Lake Mead right at sunset, made for some awesome pictures! And... I actually proposed to my wife there and recorded it with my drone. Its on my channel. Happy trails.
A bumper to bumper warranty would have cost $3,000, all of those repairs except the fluid changes and brake pads) would have been covered and he would have saved $8,000+ and still have 2 years left and 20,000 miles left…everyone says they are a waste of money…in 32 years I have never lost a dime on any of them (have broken even a couple cars but never lost any amount over $500)
I suppose the trick there is finding a company that will ACTUALLY pay out and isn't a colossal pain to deal with. Do you have a particular company you use and have had good luck with. I'm also curious if one of those companies would even offer a warranty on a 20+ year old vehicle with 200k+ miles. Seems unlikely?
I went kind of deep down the rabbit hole making this video. This is a matter of debate, for sure .... but it seems that most scientists feel Rainier is more dangerous than Yellowstone, mostly due to likelihood of an eruption. There are a lot of articles like this one out there: www.ibtimes.com/experts-reveal-volcanoes-more-dangerous-yellowstone-2928341 That said, yeah .... if Yellowstone DOES erupt, we're all ****ed!
Nice video, well done. However, I am disappointed that you won't share the location of your camp spots. The best part (for me) of watching these overlanding videos is to decide if I want to go there as well. If I don't know where it is, the magic is gone. I doubt that those ammo shells (and other garbage) would come from your viewers - more likely from locals who didn't need RU-vid to know about the spot. I encourage you to trust your viewers and share info with them. It's not a great attitude to not trust your own supporters. Anyway, I've said my peace. Others may disagree, but...
@jacobkjelstrup2983 I appreciate your take on this & I can see where you're coming from. I will say, I've had probably a dozen people DM me saying they found the spot via breadcrumbs in the video .... so it's 100% possible! If you're up for it, check out the video I put together on how I find campsites like this one. With just a little bit of map research, I think you'll be able to find it!
@@WheretoNextOverland I may have exaggerated a bit, but I was looking at the GX 470 and 460 about a year ago and they were all above $20,000. The only ones I found in the teens were completely rusted out. I'm in the Minneapolis area.
Absolutely beautiful I’m in Texas beautiful hill country here but not like your area. Headed to New Mexico/ Colorado in my 4Runner next month for Overland trip. Like your Alu-Cab enjoy your adventures be safe
Nice! Speaking of mountains, overlanding in Colorado is something special. We got to spend some time in the San Juan mountains a few years ago and it was amazing. New Mexico is on our list. Haven't been there yet. Have a great time!
We just went away this past weekend for a quick little trip. Wanted to go back to a spot we scouted and had a not so great first camp there. The route to it passes through a LOT of timber company land. This spot is at least 90 minutes on dirt. About 85 minutes of that in and we hit a gate at the Tillamook State Forest boundary. Sign on other side said No Motorized Vehicles. We must have missed a sign coming in. The thing of it all, we passed TWO employees in trucks and they just waved as drove by. 🤦♂️ A 3hr reroute later and we ended up at a different spot we've been to. We want to get up by Ranier so badly. But we're hitting part of the Oregon BDR for Labor Day weekend. So excited. If you guys don't have plans, hit us up. We need adventure buddies. 😉😝
@WheretoNextOverland we're starting in Hood River and just going to head south. Instead of distance, we're just going to spend a few days and we make however far we make it. Heading out Thursday and will likely find camp not far outside Hood River first night. We're going to be out until either Sunday or Monday. And of course all of this is pending how the smoke is.
@VictorVlogsPDX right on! We appreciate the invite, but have standing plans for the weekend. You've got the right idea taking it slow and enjoying vs putting in a ton of miles. Hope the smoke isn't too bad!
Man that camp is epic! I can watch those mountains all day. Nice try for the air fryer, it’s easy to clean and you don’t have to worry about wind. Your set up is so quick that you might be able to out run that volcano when it erupts 👀 ✊ 🪵
Ironically, I was planning on going to that area this week. However, now it looks like next week. Will be just me and the dog as the wife has expressed absolutely no interest in driving up mountain roads with me.
@@WheretoNextOverland absolutely... that's the drawback of the East Coast. I love a good ATV ride but I drove 10 hours to WV only for there to be leftover been cans wherever you look... even though it's all mostly shelf roads through the mountains. Living on the west coast must be nice for that reason.
@@WheretoNextOverland you are really missing great views and so much to see . I dont have a video but tons of pictures I would encourage you to explore Mt Baker on from both sides I would love to show you some awesome sites
@@WheretoNextOverland NF - 3075 right before the Mount Baker ski area, go to the very end, it's an absolutely unbelievable spot to camp and view Mount Baker. Don't go on a weekend!
Jim I can confirm they are some of THE nicest human beings we've ever met. Got to hang out with them and their friends at OXPNW and it felt like we've known them for years.
I had a Range Rover with air ride suspension and that shit left the conversation a long time ago. That was one of my concerns about getting one of these but you have put my mind at ease.
@willbrewa haha yeah that's fair. Those Land Rover air suspensions have quite the disastrous reputation. AHC can have issues, but it's very stout if taken care of
I have a 2002 UZJ100 Lexus, and the suspension has been invisible to me, not ONE problem. I change the hydraulic fluid every five years. I also own two W140 Mercedes of 1990s vintage I bought used some time ago. The V12 hasn't had any hiccups on the suspension, but the V8 had a rough life before, and I had to change the air-oil reservoirs (Toyota uses a tank, not a buoy) and one small position sensor arm, nothing too expensive. Having three cars with hydropneumatic suspensions, I don't fully understand the complaints: the ride is superb, on the Toyotas it's adjustable, and all require very little maintenance. All pumps are original, and together they sum 76 years.
I agree with you that the last thing I want at a campsite is to be within sight of another human. That said, there is a difference between a designated campsite / campground and a dispersed campsite with a fire-ring. The whole idea of dispersed camping at one of those spots is NOT to see another human, and 99% of the time we don't. The real trick seems to be getting off the "main" gravel roads that anyone in any car can access. As soon as the road gets rough enough that 4WD is needed, it's almost a gaurantee you won't see anyone
No free lunch. Reliability comes at a cost. If its a shop, as I do, our world has become costly if OEM. Its entirely misleading to think purchase price is it. There is a huge wave of worn parts after 200k miles. MPG is awful. We knew that going in. Not a bad total. Try modifying with suspension and steel bumpers.
Just found your channel! Great stuff. Was wondering what video your chicken apple cinnamon recipe it was in. Need the recipe thanks keep on making awesome videos.
I was wondering if you 2 were going to make a video during summer in that, and was this on the weekend? Can't wait for the kids to go back to school!😅 We have a spot that we like to go to when there is a burn ban going on, because we get the whole place to ourselves.
Yep, this one is the first of a bunch in the Taco! We were at the lake on a Friday. If I were to go back during the summer, I'd probably only consider going mid-week
If folks are researching which top "name brand" power station to purchase, whatever you do...stay FAR from any Jackery! It's an inferior product with only a 3 year warranty and as soon as that 3 yrs is up, it'll fail and their support will only give you a "trade-in discount voucher" and most of their stuff is all proprietary too...lousy product, lousy service and not user-friendly when trying to use 3rd party stuff. Bluetti seems the way to go!
Gold Butte is a hidden gem. I had a friend who lived in Mesquite, and she didn't know anything about all the beauty and history - right there, in her own backyard. We spent a day exploring the area, but I didn't know about the petroglyphs. I'll catch them on my next visit!
Kofa is an excellent place to get away from it all. On one of my visits, I came upon a rare Sonoran Pronghorn. And yes, it's entirely possible to cross the Reserve and not see another human.
I have the gazelle t4 overland edition for the past 3 years and it is hands down my favorite tent. With the zippers I always get the wrong zipper (like I mix up the screen with the door). The other thing is it’s a bit of a challenge to fit my cot inside due to door size. But honestly I haven’t had any issues with my tent and would buy it again in a heartbeat.
Here ya go: nomnompaleo.com/dumpling-smash-tacos P.S - Christine is obsessed with Nom-Nom Paleo. I think 80% of her recipes come from there these days haha. Enjoy!
yeah that sketched me out. haha im not used to that sorta thing. i had a good spotter and that helped but man that freaked me out. lol im happy to be on the other side of it now. my subsequent trips have been.. flatter. lol
