First set I remember watching -> Something from EVO 2013 after I saw Melee as a category with an unreal number of views on Twitch that weekend. Really can't remember which set exactly though. I mostly just remember thinking: "Damn, they're still playing this old ass game competitively and it's getting this many views?" The set I remember the most from that tournament even thought it wasn't the first set I watched was Mango vs Hungrybox because I always thought as a kid Puff was ass so someone making as deep of a run with that character was odd to me. Little did I know. Which set would I introduce someone to Melee with -> Mango vs Zain from Summit 11, it's the most insane modern era set I can think of and it's classic Fox vs Marth, one of Melee's most defining matchups. I know it's technically two sets but I generally consider Grand Finals reset situations to be one big set.
Luffy is the worst SF evo champion of all time. He was lucky that no one studied his character. And he was soon knocked to the abyss and we couldn't see him in high level competitive play.
This is the Marn's Leg tourney where he had some flesh eating shit growing on his leg and was advised not to go. He said somewhere that his only goal was to send Chris G to losers so that Justin could win the tournament, and it happened lol

From 1st in 2014 to 5th in 2018, and no notable appearance since. Oh how the mighty have fallen. I personally don't like Louffy. In my opinion he plays super scum game and a disgusting character. I don't miss his presence at EVO these days at all, but congrats to him for this W anyway, even with my great disdain for him.
Luffy was knocked into losers bracket relatively early on, meaning he had to play double the amount of matches in order to fight back and win. Here are some of the notable players he beat on his way to victory: Tokido (JPN) Misse (JPN) MCZ|Mago (JPN) Eita (JPN) FGC|Pugera (JPN) EG|Momochi (JPN) RZR|Gackt (SNG) RG|Snake Eyez (USA) Fuudo (JPN) Bonchan (JPN) Bonchan (JPN) An absolutely INSANE run, don’t let anyone ever try and downplay his achievement in this tournament, you’ve got to respect it.
never seen such a dominating top 8 until Chris G vs Flocker. Flocker got straight up exposed and annihilated. And to think he was last year's champ lol
This was only seven years ago, but it feels like a world of difference from the FGC now. I hope that SFVI brings some of this hype and excitement back.
