I don't know why they require a 21mm or 13/16ths wrench. Such a dumb size. They should have gone with 7/8 or 22mm. I wound up using an adjustable wrench and it worked. Otherwise a pretty good tool.

Volume is not what makes the steering operate, it is pressure, because the "power" steering system is hydraulic. Mentioning volume would be appropriate when talking about a cars water pump, where the pump is creating super super low pressures moving the "volume" of coolant through the cooling system. Metal doesnt melt at 180 degrees. Can you imagine a set of headers melting off your engine😂
@poysunivey
@poysunivey 26 дней назад
Your example of metal on metal is not relevant. The transmission pump is a metal on metal vein design and most vehicles or a metal pump body with metal veins. And ATF lubricates those just fine. As far as the clutches in an automatic transmission, they are designed to work with the fluid, not the other way around.not to mention the many manufactures that specifically stay to use automatic transmission fluid in the power steering pump. Your systems might be different, and as such require a certain type of fluid. But right off the bat your first piece of a five part series is not true.

😂😂😂 I can't believe anyone ever tried to get inventive. Who ever created this pain in the ass probably could have tossed a few bleeders in the box hey.... Guys at the factory must really love this job! Shit I lost count was that 75 heck might as well toss in a few more before the end of my shift. Ps great video and great info just a heck of a project thank you I have to do this on my motor home

If the power steering pump sucks in fluid when I start the car does this mean I am also sucking new air into the system and basically having to restart the bleeding procedure? I have a car that I have tried to bleed for hours and no matter what I do i get hard steering while not moving and loud whining when it gets close to lock. Also no matter how much I bleed with the car off it always sucks a lot of fluid into the pump and almost empties the reservoir. There are also no leaks so I am not sure how air keeps getting in.

Not sure you’re up to date about why synthetic oil can handle the heat better. They are not simple hydrocarbons like petroleum oil. In addition many cars come with power steering fluid coolers. Why would they design that if heat was not such an issue?

If I try this with the engine off it pushed fluid out of the reservoir..

No bruh. ATF is the safest by far. Bought a van (4Y gears) . Power steering sounded like crap when turning. Upon checking I found the oil is lower than half as the previous owner was sloppy. I just bought a bottle of ATF fluid and topped up. Turns out there was absolutely nothing wrong 6 years later, and still turning smooth. So ATF is best for power steering from my experience.

Good thing the Ford FSM states that the hydroboost system is “generally self-bleeding”. What that equates to is; “go ahead and drive the car sensibly for the next 2 days to let things bleed out.”

How much pressure can that box take when stock from factory? I cannot find the specs for this gearbox when from factory in 1979 TA. I've had bad luck running high pressure and flow at 3gpm from an LS3 aftermarket Eddie Motorsports pump, doesn't seem to return flow very fast and starves the reservoir. Would be nice to know exactly what flow and pressure these boxes are supposed to operate normally at.

Considering I tried this without doing the brakes each time and now I'm having to redo bleeding because the brake system is making noise, this video would seem to be correct to me and wish I would have found it first. Thanks for the good info guys

Ford does use Marcon LV on their power rack and pinion steering systems. I tried using the synthetic power steering fluid and the steering response was not the same and over a very short time I damaged my power steering pump. so very poor advice from this guy its always best to read and follow your owner manuals recommended fluids.

I used to be tech for years at Chevy and GM would disagree with you. I specialize in GM and Ford. In all honest, the biggest contender to ATF leaks is Dodge/RAM which is basically fiat now. Think I'm kidding, look who made the EcoDiesel in the RAM 1500. It was Fiat. All cars have pros and cons and unfortunately Fiat is not on my list just like Hyundai/Kia for vehicle I recommend for people to buy. New cars are completely garbage and that goes for GM as well. GM can be either ATF or Power Steering Fluid. If it came with ATF from the factory. We put ATF in it. If it came with Power Steering Fluid, we put ATF in it. Heck, before I was a tech at Chevy, at Valvoline was the same thing. Same with a lot of years of RAM 1500-3500 as well using ATF or Valvoline ATF MaxLife.

Can air get into the system if the car has been sitting for 6 months? Drove the car yesterday & the power steering felt sticky, almost manual at times. Parked and checked the fluid was still full. Did notice some leaked back up through the fill cap on the reservoir.

Yeah I’ll default to engineers with millions of hours of R&D like TOYOTA who specifically recommend ATF. I think they know a little more than you do 😂😂😂

Do you know what would cause a new hydroboost to leak at the weep hole I put a duralast one on and it leaked asap. Would a bad pump cause the booster to leak?or maybe my lines too tight

Isn't the pump in a 4l60e transmission a metal on metal vane design?
@gregorymalchuk272
@gregorymalchuk272 2 месяца назад
I suspect the rack itself generates much higher forces and wear than the vane pump. A lot of manufacturers have technical service bulletins cancelling ATF and recommending power steering fluid, the additive package is different (borate esters vs ZDDP) and probably better for preventing wear.

I was one of those customers, filed a BBB complaint and they couldn't contact the company. Finally had to file a claim with my credit card to get reimbursed after over 6 months of trying to get in contact with them. Terrible company. May have been good before bought by steerco. Not even sure if they're still in business since every advertised item everywhere shows out of stock.

Joshua in 2022 I had you build me a rack for my 04 Cobra and after two racks and buying this fluid that you never sent me I’m having major issues with this rack. At 40-45 mph it’s dangerous to drive! I find it’s interesting that you have finally closed your doors as you deserve to spend time in prison for all the wrong things you’ve done to so many people! Do you read your own google reviews? I’m having Jr at Turn One fix your lack of mechanical skills! You and Big John should be ashamed of themselves!!!

I got a ram 2500 diesel, after feeling something different in the brake pedal and lack of power steering shortly after I changed the pump. I did a lot of bleeding and made sure the new pump was delivering pressure to the hydro booster, kept bleeding and I can only turn the wheel completely left, once I get to center it wont turn any further. It wont turn right. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, alfred M
