JD Silver Handmade Smoking Pipes is a channel to showcase some pipes I've made, and to enjoy the pipe-smoking hobby with others in the RU-vid Pipe Community
a couple days ago i broke the stem on my fav meerschaum and it broke off clean leaving the peace stuck in the joint thankfully i was able to remove the stuck peace but am not sure it can be glued back on or weather i need to make a whole new stem, its a small pipe compared to the average so i may be able cut something down and fit it, i was devastated wen this happened and kept thinking i cant have anything nice now can i ..this pipe is around 120 yrs old witch stings the more i think about it..well at least the actual pipe portion is fine i just need to sort out a new stem, it would have had an amber stem originally but came to me with a black rubber stem that now ive got to replace probably. sigh....
@@JDSilverTobaccoPipes yeah im going to drill the stem out a lil bit and fit a new peace to then press fit to the pipe. if i had a peace of buffalo horn it would match the stem pretty good but i dont have any atm..ill probably end up using bone as the next best thing.
I used this method plus added my own spin to fix my 50+year old Dr. GARBOW now it looks like it use too! Mine was broken even worse than this, and in two places, at the button, and the shank but now it looks great and works like it use too as well!
Hi JD, I just started making pipes and found your channel. I was gifted a block of black walnut to use. Various internet searches return either that walnut can be used or that it is toxic. Do you have recommend using it?
@@JDSilverTobaccoPipes thanks for getting back to me. I will give it a try! I love your videos and just tried fixing a stem using the super glue charcoal method.
@@JDSilverTobaccoPipes just finished sanding it tonight! It worked amazing. I used toothpicks with Vaseline on them like one of the comments suggested and it made it less work to drill out the airway. Do you do anything to finish it? The ebonite and the charcoal areas are just a bit differently coloured.
Nice virtually meeting you. Heading from Chicago to Naples FL next week for some needed warmth and sunshine. That seems to be the destination for many in the Midwest.
Good to see you. Glad you could come down. There's unfortunately a cold weather pattern coming through. Still warmer than Canada though🥶 Many go to the Gulf coast for soring break. Congrats on the upcoming weddings
Merry Christmas! I don't really smoke much in winter so I don't have the opportunity to make videos. I can't smoke in the house, and it's too cold outside to stand out there with a pipe. :)
Think its a cool looking pipe there Jason! I love using African blackwood on my pipes. Such a beautiful wood to work with. Yes briar can be very phoenique. Theres times i had $60 briar blocks that were no good. Anytime with working with briar is a role of the dice if its good or not. But small sand pits will not effect the pipe as long as there are no bad pits in the bowl. If the pits bother you Rusticate the bowl. Good to see you agine brother God bless and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
That's the thing about Briar, it's so darn unforgiving as far as scratches are concerned. You're gonna have to gettem all out before you get to the 800gr. stage. After that it's smooth sailing. If you don't you're just polishing scratches. That's an awesome looking pipe though.
I think it’s beautiful and agree with your assessment. Needs sanded just a tad more and it doesn’t matter the amount of money, them pits are a pain. However it turned out beautifully. Love the shape. You did an excellent job my friend. ❤
