i had an assignment for some entrepenureship class and came up with an idea for like an art sharing website, and i named the app "ArtBlock" next week, we come in to present and they called up our name.. except the presentation was completely different from ours. Turns out ANOTHER group was calling themselves Artblock and we had practically the same idea for the project, with only a few differences. We didnt copy each other even, we sat on complete opposite sides of the lecture hall lol.
I'm not gonna say, but I have experienced this with... Hazbin Hotel of all things. I made a character back when the show didn't get its first season, and I didn't even know it existed. It was an Angel character, that had a white color scheme. A few years later, S1 of HH released, and the same character literally had the same name, same skin tone, same characteristics as my OC-
This reminds me of that one time I came up with some lore for some a deltarune secret boss (no design, just a what if) and apparently there was a really popular secret boss concept for deltarune already that’s lore was really fucking similar to what I had coke up with

Everyone dies, but when you are the one who ultimately kills them in the end, it hurts a little. After meeting June, Aureli thought it’s finally be over. Maybe this time theres no need to see someone leave. Reality and stories aren’t the same though. Just because it was fate, it doesn’t mean anyone has plot armor. Under heaven and throughout the earth all is equal. Like everyone else, June left. Even though June was also an immortal. So Aureli decided to try and live alone for once. Maybe settle down. It didn’t feel good or anything. Maybe the life Aureli lived finally made an impact on their mental health. Now this one lives in an apartment with nothing in it other than empty bottles. Maybe one day this one could be happy.
An OC backstory is just, well, the backstory of your character. Their origins. What did or didn’t happen to them before the main events of the story. It’s a pretty popular storytelling tool, you see it all the time in fiction
I made a monsterhearts II character who was a college student that had gotten her heart ripped out by a cult and refused to die, angry at the cult and desperate to stay alive. Not the brightest, loves fighting, afraid of what happens when her will alone is no longer enough to stay alive. Likes helping people, yadda yadda. We played this game for two years. Then Baldur's Gate 3 came out and the people, who I have been playing with for two years prior, bring up the idea that I stole it from Karlach. >:^(

@@Haruna_alora Compound words can often be tricky! There are a few like "aswell" and "atleast" which do not exist, but others like "everyday" versus "every day" where each has its own meaning and use. Unfortunately it's mostly requires you knowing each individual case...

Dont worry about it that much. Everything that has ever been done or thought of is just a variation of something that came before it. Dont worry too much on being creative, just make something you want to make.
Creation doesn't need to have an audience though. You can do creative things just for the sake of expressing yourself and understanding/unpacking your own feelings. It can be a good outlet and de-stressor. Originality doesn't really matter in that context.
honestly i would so listen to someone infodump about their OCs as a date. i once watched a friend do a powerpoint on the book they were writing and by the end i had never wanted to kiss them more
this is relatable even for musicians I play guitar and incidentally stumble upon similar riffs :( also Vsauce once said it’d happen (all things will soon be unoriginal)
For me its that for character design, i always have lil ideas for ocs then a game character releases and has some same specific character design features, and now whenever i wanna post or draw it feels kinda weird or scary at times, thinking naybe someones gonna go and be like that ajdhjshs
