I feel like a lot of people misunderstood this video a bit, so just to be clear. No, I have never been harassed before, don't worry lol I mostly made this video out of panic + since I'm not good with words, I tried to use pictures to explain on what I had THOUGHT would happen Yeha anyways following what another commenter had said below, it's impossible to make an oc that's entirely original. What matters is how you execute the story, not the concept. ( Shoutout to user ellotheearthling for this one lmao )
HA! I made a super original oc, he is the god of reality who have the control of reality and superpowers, he also can solo vs world every character in fiction🤓
when one of your favorite OCs of yours is a short guy with sunglasses and a very specific haircut and you see someone else's OC who is also a short guy with sunglasses and a very specific haircut 😅😓
Everyone is trying to original, different and all that comes crashing down to a mess of specific quirks that's gone completely common. There is only much of uncommon quirks until you hit a wall, and since a lot of people are trying to strive for it-what you again get is, common and generic plots.
Reminds me of the Drizzt clones. OG dark elves have very specific quirks and Drizzt is the opposite of all of them. Anyone wanting to do a heroic dark elf is directly or indirectly making a Drizzt expy.
This is so real omg. Except for the fact that I don’t really post my ocs, I just hold off until I finish their stories-and then proceed to never finish the lore and forget about them
Reminds me of my old ocs from like 2018 (I was a literal child) where I was tracing others art and then claiming them as mine and also making my (stolen) ocs unreasonably powerful up to the point where they can beat god (I am so grateful I never started to post until recently 😭)
I don't run into this problem in the same way. It's more like I end up using colors that are common or popular with other artists ocs, but not typically on concept alone. Helps when I'm like one of 5 people who draw anthro snails gshkldsjghsldgh
It is impossible for something to be completely original, no matter what you come up with it’s been done before. Two ideas being similar is not a bad thing, and if people think you’re copying others then just dont read the comments
Simple ideas (like personas) yes. For complex ideas (like narratives or settings) no. A complex concept can be greater than the sum of its parts even if they’re taken from other places
@@saycap That doesn't change the fact that it's not completely original. Take a story for example: If it takes place on earth, that's been done millions of times before. If it doesn't take place on earth, that's been done millions of times before. I'm not claiming that making interesting and original narratives is impossible, but nothing can be made purely of new ideas. Everything will be atleast a little unoriginal, but that doesn't mean it's bad.
Reminds me of the time I was in a HTTYD discord server. I had this fan species of mine that I made in my head when I was like, 10, but never drew until then. I shared this original idea of mine…and was immediately told that I was copying a dragon breed I had never even heard of before 😔
honestly i would so listen to someone infodump about their OCs as a date. i once watched a friend do a powerpoint on the book they were writing and by the end i had never wanted to kiss them more
This but i found a fanfic whose premise was practically word-for-word IDENTICAL to my own 😭 Nah but i loved it, the actual fics are totally different it was just a bizarre jumpscare moment lol
sometimes i feel like something like this would happen to me then i realize i never post my ideas to the public so it doesnt really happen to me funny aint it?
This happens to me but mostly with plot ideas, like tf. Sometimes I got into new things like movies or musicals, then all of the suden I realize that they are very similar (in some parts) to my oc's lore and I get paranoid thinking someone is gonna say that I copied the plot even though I've never seen it before Then, I proceed to take inspiration of the media I found to continue my oc's lore, like I wasn't paranoid before lmao
Literally me except that the popular creator is actually a content creator I’ve liked for like several years and his characters and stories just weirdly correlate with mine (ik it’s a coincidence cuz like I haven’t even shared the lore of my character yet)
So real. Literally found a fic that practically had the same word-for-word premise as mine 😭 The actual fics are totally different tho but man it was like a jumpscare I was questioning my sanity man
relatable except im way more sensitive 💔💔 whenever i see a character made by someone or a character from a certain media thats like 0.1% similar to my oc i freak out
For how simple my OC is, they’re rather unique. Partly because lots of people can’t manage the level of detail I can go into for such simple topics but mostly because my type of OC doesn’t appeal to people.
This is so real, there’s been a few times I have a idea but someone else already did it or made it public, I never been harassed before because of it I hope it wasn’t to hard on you?
HELPLP IT'S ALL GOOD I've never been harassed before dw, I only made this in a panic + I was tryna explain to someone abt how I felt abt my situation and what I'm worried of what might happen so yeha ( god dang this comment is long )
i feel this in my freaking SOUL. i've had something similar happen with my original music SO many times. i'll end up finishing a song that i really, REALLY like, and then i end up finding another song that has the exact same notes in the exact same rhythm by a CRAZY popular artist (bonus points if it's in the same key), and i'm just like WELP then i usually throw that project in the trash and make a mental note to NEVER make a song like that again because i do NOT want to commit Accidental Plagiarism™... and then it inevitably happens again anyway, because i APPARENTLY have terrible luck with accidentally copying other artists' melodies and whatnot.
Meanwhile me: - "Bro, why do you look like a polish hybrid of Senko and Rick Sanchez?" - "Okay, so it all started when I evaded nuclear war by travelling to other universe..."
me when i came up with the concept of a cool colourful urban city that's blocked off from the rest of the world due to a strange corruption and the characters are bright colourful and some of them are anthro and there's organisations trying to protect people and then i found out about Zenless Zone Zero
My oc is an 800 year old dragon kitsune shrine maiden who can talk to spirits and shoo them into jars, fly, breathe fire, and flew into the sun once and survived. Is that original??????
Could be, maybe. If you want like actual advice ( if you don't you can always skip this part ) it's all good if it has a few similarities, what matters is how you execute it. That's what I learned at least lol
I've yet to see an actual Original Character. and people saying "Oh did you copy _______________'s oc idea?" Is stupid because oc stands for original character. But no single person has an one because everything has been done before so all you can do is update it with different idea's and makes something somewhat original.
Dont worry about it that much. Everything that has ever been done or thought of is just a variation of something that came before it. Dont worry too much on being creative, just make something you want to make.
Creation doesn't need to have an audience though. You can do creative things just for the sake of expressing yourself and understanding/unpacking your own feelings. It can be a good outlet and de-stressor. Originality doesn't really matter in that context.
The struggle is real. One of my favorite anime hair styles is where the character's hair covers their eyes. Apparently I'm not the only one who likes it.
I mean, atleast you made an oc with lore! I can't even make an oc, no matter how hard I try. Also, I find this story funny, even though I don't relate at all.
You sbouldn't really have to worry about this. An OC is still your OC. Similar to another already existing one, or not. You can still take it your own path and route diverging from another person's. Besides, nothing is ever original in this world. We have all thought of the same thing at least once. OC may stand for Original Character, but don't forget that it may also stamd for Own Character.
For me its that for character design, i always have lil ideas for ocs then a game character releases and has some same specific character design features, and now whenever i wanna post or draw it feels kinda weird or scary at times, thinking naybe someones gonna go and be like that ajdhjshs
EXACTLY! Every time I make an idea I like, I'll see an ad for a movie or something with that idea.. or the exact same thing as this video.. it happened to me a month ago with a RU-vidr and once I made a cool oc and then saw the ad for the horror movie smile and it was the same.
same happen to me because i created my own baldy blind oc in like 2024 and someone tells me that im a "gojo fanboy??" is it because my oc has a blindfold on doesnt mean i like gojo
This is actually so real though, I'm a yomi hustle mod developer and since my art isn't good enough to make my characters stand on their own yet I need the gameplay to carry, and the consequence of that is living in constant fear that someone will beat me to whatever idea I have and make me have to throw out potentially months of work
AHH SAME except it’s ocs similar to characters already existing i didnt know about! some characters i have accidentally copied closely: Gon Freecss (story wise) Kurapika (story and design wise) Binah (story wise) Gebura (design wise) Shining Glitter Cookie (design wise)(KILL ME SHE’S SO OUT OF PLACE 😭) there’s too many to list.. 😂🔫👁️🗨️👁️🗨️
That's why ive literally told no one about my whole oc multiverse. That stays on MY ipad, and in MY head. No one else until i finally finish with the multiverse*.
This can happen in a variety of places, not just on OC. I've even seen people create accounts impersonating victims of a particular incident (to sell accounts) to gain subscribers, and then insult the victims of the actual incident by calling them frauds.
@Haruna_alora Fortunately, almost everyone who knows the whole story Swearing the real scammer, but the scammer got angry and tried to sue the real victim for copyright. (I don't know if they actually went through the legal process, but seeing as there's no proof, I'm guessing it was just give a scare.) That was just three days ago. The case involving the victim ended in an acquittal, so the scammer will probably be forgotten soon, but it gave me a lot to think about.
What's worse is even if you had posted it first, the fall out still would've happened as "More well known must be the original" mob mentality takes over.
this is relatable even for musicians I play guitar and incidentally stumble upon similar riffs :( also Vsauce once said it’d happen (all things will soon be unoriginal)
Same, I'm harrased on discord a lot and told to kill myself a lot due to this problem, a lot of the time I haven't even heard of them and one time I added the user they were talking about on discord and they were using MY ART as their profile picture that they stole from ME, turns out they were in a server I was in, they stole my art and now I had to send them a video of me deleting it and emptying my trash and getting it out of my drawing website. I left the server cause I got harrased non stop. I don't share my art anymore and I'm strict about people using it and I specify that people credit me if they want to use it
@@Haruna_alora yeah, i got a drow entertainer aberrant mind sorceress named Janet, the only request is to take Crown of Stars and Melf’s Minute Meteors at their respective levels and combine them with Dancing Lights cantrip and Faerie Fire to become a dancing, killer lightshow for Janet’s final act. After that, make her do what you will.
I fear that this is gonna happen if my art channel becomes popular, like somebody is just going to show some random ahh picture of something that looks uncannily similar to my art but came out like 8 years earlier and say I copied them
Funny thing is that everyone is putting the weirdest quirks in their ocs just to make it original, so much so that the generic traits become uncommon For example, one of my ocs WHICH LITERALLY HAS 10 WEIRD QUIRKS, then my other older oc which is generic asf. Somehow I found more ocs similar to my new ocs than my older ones lmao
