@dgconley I'm waiting on gci to open up my old phone number for a lot of hunting and fishing content I have but it had 2 step verification so as soon as I get into my old Google account I'll be sure to share.
You says its a good thing you dont need to hire a guide? Why is that a good thing? Beacuse of the money or you are better and thoose proff. Guides? Best Regards Peter Eriksson Sweden Europe with Love to freedom 😊😊😊
I'm 54. And I'm at the same as you guys said it's time to roll.. 1 OF my best Buddys moved back to Fairbanks so we are just talking on a Rive trip comen soon
Ryan from Kansas. I've spoke with you guys twice, both times at the Airport in 2020 & 2022. Great hunt again Dave and Eric! I'm headed back out there again this year with my cousin again. Will you guys be up there again this year? Hope to see you guys there!
Hi Ryan, thanks and great to hear from you! We'll be in another direction out of Anchorage this fall so we'll probably not cross paths. All the best to you and your cousin on your hunt this fall!
We had two other bulls responding that morning and Eric was still in the hunt. Yes gun shots are loud and we couldn't control that but continual loud voices we could control. Eric would end up shooting his bull in almost the same spot 4 days later, perhaps one that we heard raking that morning.
congratulations to you both great bulls , and we never get old, we just get better lol. see you both in 2024 moose hunting , great video thank you for sharing
Well done. Just a fyi, if you are in a “bone in” area, the rib meat must stay on the ribs. If this is the case, I’d erase that part of the video. ADF&G is as ridiculous as it gets and will absolutely throw the book at you for something as petty as that.
Congratulations! Excellent video. I noticed you mentioned your age a couple of times in the video. Here is a quote from the song Forever Young: Forget your age, Live your life
As an Alaskan who has hunted in Alaska for over 25 yrs, Alaska is the most hunted place on earth, with the shortest season. It forces hundreds of thousands of hunters into the woods, swamps and mountains all at the same time. Add it scouting from planes and 1,000 yard shooters, Alaska will go down as the worst conservation ever known to mankind. ADF&G are happy to do so as they make billions of dollars off of the hunting and fishing industry. Government failure at its finest.
We both share the love of hunting and eating wild game. Many areas have gotten busy for sure but I have to believe Alaska pays attention to managing numbers so as to not over harvest.
@@dgconley unfortunately they do not. They fly over a one square mile per unit and count how many animals per species they see. They then assume there are that many animals in every square mile. It’s as ridiculous as it gets. All Alaskan hunters who don’t make money off of hunting, will tell you how bad the conservation in Alaska is. I will put my life savings that Alaska will go down as the worst conservation ever known to mankind.
Maine does a similar thing with moose counts and tries to reduce the number of animals per square mile especially when it comes to reducing the moose tick problem we have. I just figured with Alaska being so huge, over hunting in general wasn't a problem but I am sure you know more about it than I do!
@@dgconley it’s becoming a major problem. It wouldn’t be if we had more land access but most land is not available to anyone but certain native Alaskan tribes and conveniently, 99.9% of all their land is along the roadways which make it impossible for your average hunter to get to new areas to hunt. Therefore many are forced to clump together in extremely short time periods. Some areas are only open 20 days. This causes massive overhunting in areas and then you add in the success rates of outfitters and you have a recipe for disaster. Don’t forget to add in that those natives have no bag limits or hunting seasons. They don’t have to follow “white mans laws” and have their own court system. The only time an American court system can prosecute a native is if they have been kicked out of their tribe which is actually very common. Most of them are the homeless that plague the big cities in Alaska. Alaska is no longer that last frontier that I knew as a child. To make it worse, Lisa murkoski is trying to give all land from talkeetna to Cantwell to tok to glennallen, to athna natives. Arguably the worst poachers of them all. This would shut down the largest hunting area in Alaska that’s open to public and accessible from the roadways.
Yeah ADFG definitely ruins prime moose populations. I think they need to listen to hunters from the units. And brown bears are way too protected in the state, there’s way too many in certain units.
Great moose, video and hunt Dave, brings back memories for me. I'm not sure if everyone watching this realize the work and cost of a hunt like this but I do they don't call it dead weight for nothing
Omg moose are enormous animals. You can't really appreciate their size without seeing one up close. They can go half a ton or better. 😳 I wouldn't want to run into a pissed off moose, but then again there's big brown bears too. Not for the faint hearted 😅
I just posted out 2023 hunt and I think you will be please with next to NO Music! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TARR_rf2_GQ.htmlsi=pjOKiyUPG4zne6lg
Unbelievable! I camped exactly where you camped in 2022. Right off of 12 mile... Bruce or John put you in a good spot. My buddy and I both killed moose there. Adventure of a lifetime! Congrats ! Can't believe a video from a spot I hunted! Love it!
New subscriber here, just wanted to say I really enjoyed the video. Something different about this one for sure and I mean that in the best possible way. Makes you feel as though you are right there, keep up the great work 💯
How was Alaska compared to Maine? I live in Central Maine but I'm strongly considering moving to Alaska. I love the Hunting and Fishing lifestyle. Alaska seems to have even better Hunting and Fishing than Maine.
David, I love Alaska, everything is bigger for sure and the fishing and hunting opportunities are endless! I don't think I would care for the short winter days though. If you can find a job you like/love, go for it! I must say I never get used to brown bears walking by outside the tent! I sleep much better when tenting in Maine!
@Dave C. I am more worried about Moose here in Maine than Bear but I've been Charged by Moose here in Maine before. It's never fun though I carry a handgun when I'm in the woods for that reason.
@@davec.6298 I see you are the typical Green horn who believes in Alaska winter is dark 24-7. I have news for you as an Alaskan we don't have darkness 24-7 . You only get short winter days from Fairbanks north as going higher on the earth. Form Anchorage south wintertime often matches days like of the Pacific NW. By the way whispering after you just fired a rifle what you think your voice scares animals more than a gun shot? You also need to look at where a moose has vital organs - shooting that moose High front of the shoulder you got lucky it went down on the first shot. I get idiot hunting clients that are fanatical nuts over talking in the field so bad some have told me to shut up so fine I shut up then let the client go home without the game they paid me to find for them. These animals in Alaska often never seen humans they haven't a clue what people sound like. Be a dick head to your guide you my just go home with allot less money and not the animal you paid the guide to find for you.
Probably went 40 yards, 90 yard pack out to the boat. A boiler shot from the side doesn't ruin any meat, neck shot tends to ruin meat, at least that has been my experience.
If you were hunting on the Yukon River you weren't in SW Alaska... You were in the Interior North. I'm from Maine, Rumford area and have made Alaska my home since 87. I can tell you flew out with Dena'ina Air at Merrill Field or whoever is in that trailer now. I worked there (Merrill) for the city for a tad over 20 years maintaining the airfield. Nice bull and a nice hunt.
@@dgconley My bad. I forgot just how far that river ran south. Which would make sense because that's the area where Dena'ina normally fly's to. I've crossed it driving north to caribou hunt up on the Dalton Hwy and flown into Galena when I was in the Air Force when the Alert facilities were still there. Anyway...subscribed to your channel and look forward to more of your videos.
Pretty damn expensive 18k for a moose hunt…..pff….why do you rip off people like this…..it really shows me how people move here and exploit maine…..as a lifetime resident of maine…..im better off to spend my money with my friends……it really is disturbing to see 18,000.00 dollar price tag for a moose and lodging….ill take a pass on that
Chris these lodge tag hunts In no way impact your chances in the Maine moose lottery. These tags amount to 20% of the non-resident pool And yes they’re expensive, just like other big game hunts around the world and not for everybody. Ours are actually on the low end compared to others as many are well north of $20,000 and I didn't move here, I am a life long resident, born and raised in Maine!
I’ve watched a lot of Alaska moose hunting videos. This video is a very high quality production. No head banging music. The scenery and explanation along the way were perfect. Congratulations.
Where I hunt in B.C., that wouldn't be a legal moose, for us it must have either 10 points on one antler including the brow palm or 3 points on one brow palm, or have no more than 2 points on one antler. We have 3 options, but that beautiful bull would be safe where I hunt.
Hmmm I’m not sure that’s a legal moose. As far as I’m aware all non resident moose hunters in most all areas of Alaska are restricted to a 50” or larger moose or a moose that has 4 brow tines on one side. I like you guys and love your videos. Be careful with ADF&G though. They are as corrupt as they come. I disagree with our regulations because it’s doing great harm to Alaska genetics. However we should still abide by their laws until the corruption is brought to an end. It’s good to regulate the animals we take. I believe the bull you took was a great bull to take however ADF&G often disagrees and would rather you take the largest most healthy bull. This kills our genetics and population. Great hunt and great video. Oh and one other critique, be more wary walking up on animals that seem dead. They aren’t always dead. Things can go bad quickly. Good hunting and good luck bud. 🇺🇸💪👍🏔
What a waste of a video, you dont see the moose untill after its dead?. You dont see what the hunter is aiming at. That round bring fired could have been a blank or dummy shot, etc. You don't see the moose thru the scope, crosshairs nothing. You dont see the bullet striking the moose, you dont see or are shown where the bullet entery or exist holes on the moose. Thst moose could have died of shock or old age, whoose to know
