This is amazing. I'm an OT and adapt toys for my kids. The button switches are very expensive and I've been trying to make them up on my own but have had trouble because of the stereo/mono thing. Can I purchase one of these testers from you? If so, will you let me know how. Thank you!
Switch adapted toys allow for people with limited motor function to activate toys and devices with Adaptive switches instead of the factory press buttons and switches. Adaptive Switches are like the big Easy Button Staples had a few years ago. 3" in diameter and sits on the desk. They are connected to the toy or device with a thin cable like used for stereo wiring. Imagine your hand in a mitten trying to turn on a small switch on a toy. Or maybe even in a cast. Nearly impossible to enjoy the sound, lights or movement of a toy if you can't turn it on The adaptive switch can be placed anywhere convenient to the individual to tap with their head, arm, leg, shoulder etc. Once pressed the toy or device activates. Adapting toys to have these cables make attaching the Adaptive Switch possible and enriches the lives of people with limited motor functions.

You can add a jack also to the ABC switch. The negative is wired to the circuit board and if you solder a wire from the negative on the circuit board is attached and then solder another wire on TP20 and then touch these two wires together, it will activate the ABC mode. Also I love using the 3.5 MM JAX 35PM1 Jack from SwitchCraft. This way there is no cord sticking outside the Toy for someone else to pull. Switches would plug directly into the toy. Thank you so much for the videos! They have been super helpful for adapting toys for my pediatric patients! By chance, have you had to adapt the moose for this set? I had a family purchase one from a company and when the switch is activated it only produces the sound “Moose!” And then stops. However, when you press the button on its belly it will sing. Had no pattern or previous instruction for the zipper concept. Did use a McCalls pattern for the suit, then modified it to allow for my concept to be applied. In my local Santa community there were those with snaps, Velcro and buttons. I wanted zippers for a cleaner look, and I was told I couldn't do it, so sat down and designed it myself, did a short piece as proof-of-concept and after several weeks of on/off work, you see the final result. While a lot was machine sewn, the fur required hand stitching the entire length. Also, this was my first garment project. Told my wife what I envisioned, she pointed to her sewing machine and said 'Have at it.' Only had to rip one short seam error on the entire suit. Because I wasn't happy with my material selection, I made a second suit a couple years later, saving the fur from the first and fitting it to the second. As noted, the pattern/method is not available. It took considerable figuring, for me, to come up with a clean looking practical suit. Made a mistake few years ago and shared it with a "I'll only make one and evaluate the process for you" seamstress and shortly after I see it being offered as an option on suits for sale without acknowledgement or any further communication.
Thank you. I understand. I’ve found most of the seamstresses who sew Santa suits are cutthroat. I’m in Canada and was looking for advice on fabric suppliers and no one would help. I make garments for my husband and myself (Mrs Claus). I’m in no way a professional sewist but they didn’t care or believe me. That’s okay. I can sometimes figure things out. I have a winter jacket with zip on fur on the hat. I’ll use it to figure things out. Thank you for your response

How tough is it to press the buttons on the Simon compared to a normal adaptive switch? I really appreciate your videos for adapting toys for a patient of mine, and am debating making one of these for her as well ❤
Thank you. With this larger size it is pretty easy, with the pocket version, the switches are closer together and may be an issue. (I do the adapting on the pocket version completely different.) To make sure, before modifying, I would set one of them by her and see if it easy how she can press them.
Been Santa for over 20 years and make a pretty fair amount of appearances. I have a suit that I like working with that doesn't break the bank. I have several of them for the fact that the white is tough to keep clean over time. I love your idea of the zip off fur. I'm sure you're busy at this time but I would appreciate any tips on how i could accomplish this. Thanks in advance and have a Merry Christmas.
Hello Santa! Thanks for commenting. I no longer share the method I used. When I approached the larger suit making companies about buying my method, was turned down as not something they wanted to offer. The one smaller company that did want to consider it asked for the details, which I offered under strict conditions, then said they would need to have their seamstress review it. Soon after they stopped talking and the next year I start seeing suits offered for sale exactly as I designed, with zero credit or compensation.
Same toy, different version. If you open the Owl up and discover the circuit board does not have same contact points seen in the video, how do you adapt if? Specifically if the array of solder point that should read S4 and S1-8 are not there. I did discover that the Owls with '2021.11.18 date on the yellow PCB and 2021.12.18 date on the white PCB are missing that ability to make this simple adaption. For those Owls, you will need to go to the front side of the white PCB, temporarily remove the silicone switch and surface solder one wire to the lower side of PCB board. The other wire will be soldered, also on the front of the PCB, to the solder point marked GND Unfortunately, I cannot add a photo to the comments so hope this is clear enough to accomplish an adaption.
So i have this problem and I messed up. I used the ground as you did, and I used the S4 under the silicon that you took out the beginning of the movie. And it’s not working. I probably used the wrong points?
@@SannePost-jr6hu Does your Owl have that row of solder points as seen at 6:54 in this video? If so, then those are the best soldering points. As seen in the video, these Printed Circuit Boards (PCB's) will be dated 2022. If that row of connections is not on your board, which is the case in a revision the factory made, then, as you mention, soldering for one side of your switch needs to take place under the silicone pad. These PCB's are dated 2021. There are two zigzags under that pad, one is from ground, and the other goes to the CPU to complete the circuit. You may have accidently soldered to the ground. If so, then the switch will not be completing the circuit. To figure which of the zigzags under the pad to solder to, make sure the Owl is turned on and use a jumper wire. Touch one end on the ground, the other on one side or the other of the zigzag. Once you determine which side activates the toy, you are set to solder to it, and test the adaptive switch function.
I don't think I ever commented before but I've been watching your stuff for awhile now and I want to say thank you. I worked with a little one that needed switch adapted toys and when I went in search of how to do it your channel came up. I was able to make a bubble machine adapted and leave the power switch operable too which was great as it could be left on or only blow bubbles when the adapted button is pressed. Glad you found a solution. Was the shade put on the receiver (green light) unit? That is the only one affected by the sun. And do you have the sun shining on both sides of the door during different times of the day? Usually only happens with a south facing garage door. If only an issue in the morning or evening, as you can see, it is fairly easy to swap the sending and receiving sensors for a cleaner more permanent fix.
