enjoyed the video subscribed to the newsletter. Im always learning to learn to at least trying to do. Been trying different systems and structures throughout the years. Always tweaking but Staying consistent. Enjoyed the video. thank You.
anything for work is digital. those doodles and kpis are not worth in physical existence to earth. anything worth losing and prone to changing is all in digital planners. anything personal that is permanent, physical space. Proof it exists. tangible. - physical journal
I use digital for quick business notes (on phone calls, meetings, to-dos) and paper for anything that requires original thought. I transcribe paper into digital so it's all accessible anywhere.
I love my ipad mini and pen but ban i get distracted even with a cleaned out screen with no apps I still feel clicking a notes app like goodnote just feels like I click a lot to just started writing compacted to opening my notebook.
combination of both works well. first paper, then anything that needs to last longer, be reminded about, added to a calendar and so forth gets digitized for ease of use. going back to pen and paper on a daily carry basis has changed the way i work for the better, worth a try.
Analog for me :) Although I did enjoy the Evernote experience many years ago when it was simple and easy and worked properly. And also the notes app on my Palm Pilot device :)
I have an issue with object permanence. If I can't see it... I forget it exists. I realise a phone is a physical item, but each app is not tactile enough for me to remember to use it. The phone itself is not a reminder enough when it can hold your entire life should you wish it. A notebook is very visual. It's there, you see it and it will inevitably hold fewer purposes than your phone or computer. Therefore it is a reminder to do the things you need to do by its mere existence. For example: if you have a paper planner, journal, notes for some purpose or another, creative space... You maybe have all of that in one book (and with respect, you're crazy!) but it's more likely you have it split up. Like for me, I have one journal that holds my church sermon notes, bible memorisation, prayer requests, answers and testimonies. I have another book that purely holds my to dos and to be theres for work and personal. I also have a book that holds memory keeping of the every day and an overview of yearly boring adult appointments that I have to keep up with (y'know, dentist or oil changes or whatever). So when I see those books I remember to update them. When I see my phone I go on RU-vid, honestly. Lol. Anyway. Physical books are literally more physical. And that's just perfect for people who are forgetful. Especially when paired with your other points about making it easier to remember or "learn" and the higher chance of losing stuff digitally.
For me: Analog for unwinding and being in the moment, offline, ease of use. I'm into the travellers company notebooks. and digital on my ipad for accessibility, brainstorm, on the go.
After I started putting your newsletter seminar into practice and integrating your content into my daily practice, writing has been liberating and freeing me from mental fog. One of the best pieces of content I received in 2024 and that will make a difference for the rest of my life was your channel appearing on my timeline. Thank you :D
Accessibility, yet my generation of living before cell phones is why I do both. However, I will always love analog best even though I can type faster. It's something about getting my thoughts on paper. I don't trust my notes on phone since I randomly lost them once and bever figured out why 😂. And yes, these were all my passwords. 🥴 Therefore, analog will always be my go-to.
THANK YOU FOR THISSSSS!!!! I MEAN IT!!! I HAVE SO MANY SCREENSHOTS ON MY PHONT AND IM FULL ON STORAGE AND I JUST WANT TO WRITE IT ALL DOWN BUT IDK HOW TO ORGANIZE IT. THANK YOU VERY MUCHHHHHHH!!!!! AND THANK YOU FOR EVERYONE SHARING THEIR TIPS IN THE COMMENTSSSSS
Hey Eric, question regarding your productivity goal. I guess you have more than a goal per quarter. Do you use the same notebook for all goals or one per goal? Then the amount of notebooks can easily get huge and I'd say stressful to manage. Looking forward to implementing those ideas! 🎉
Great question David! I try to keep my quarterly goals to around 1-3 main things I want to focus on. Therefore, I use just one notebook for all my goals for the quarter. I feel that it's a pretty manageable way to do it! Stoked to hear you're gonna try it out! Thanks for watching man!
@@ericpfohl sounds good! I should be doing the same instead of trying to do many things at once. I'll take your advice, and thanks for the great content 😃
Watching the 2010 film Ice castles...you know the Englishman John Ruskin took some field notebooks to write about the stones of Venice now that is something to admire.
I write for my personal website first and share it out to the platforms later. As a web developer and designer owning my content, being responsible for maintaining it means I'll have it forever long after the death of a [name any dead social media platform here.]
Great point Joseph! Hosting your content on the platforms you own is always the best option (website, email list). I just find video/RU-vid to be the best platform for top-of-funnel traffic while funneling that traffic to my owned platforms is the next step. Thanks for sharing your thoughts man!
I love writing by hand. I'm a published poet, and this year I've been writing poetry exclusively by hand. It's been an adjustment for sure, but I aslo love it!
I have notes all over the place. In apple’s Notes, Notes on PC, laptop, discord, word docs, physical pads, and so on. Recently ive discovered Obsidian and the zettelkasten method which seems to collect every note that I’ve written and make them interconnected.
I think the pocket is a good idea. I usually carry my normal notebook with me everywhere... and have been doing so since 2019... I should start a new one after 5 years... but I struggle with keeping my books organized anyway... I have a journal, a general notebook, a book in which I've written down food and gratitude, another one with films and books etc. that I wanted to watch... my brain is just complicated. Does anyone have any tips for neurodivergent people?
I’ve personally been enjoying carrying an A5 sized notebook with me almost everywhere I go! Totally agree with you there. As far as having multiple notebooks goes, I wouldn’t stress too much about it. My notebooks are far from organized, and that’s okay with me. I think the act of capturing certain things is the important part, not having it perfectly organized. Because once it’s documented in a notebook, you have it forever. Hope that helps! Thanks for being here!
Hey Eric, I love this content! Thank you for sharing and thank you for doing what you do! Press on and keep moving forward, and whatever happens, dont stop because you are tired. Stop when you are done.
