I found the paperback in a thrift store for $1.99 and grabbed it! I’m not done reading it, but I like your summary. You are correct in pointing out the “density” of Lewis’s prose. If you can do longer versions of your reviews, with actual quotes of passages you found particularly useful, I would love that. ❤
Based on your video essay, Sowell has attacked straw man arguments. For example no one is telling people on welfare “just lie down, it’s okay you’re a victim.” Most welfare programs have conditions to them, so again he attacks a straw man (poor people are told to be victims) instead of the truth (social welfare is temporary and conditional, you’ll have to earn those benefits).
So what do we learn by saying “all groups have been a slave owner and slave?” Seems like a false equivalence fallacy because we know some groups were much more negatively impactful as slave owners (white Americans) than others, but Sowell just says “well look there was other slavery too!” So? Again it’s more of a what-about-ism than a real point.
Didn't you just do what you're accusing TS of doing? "We know..." . Do we? Do we know? There's a tremendous amount of variability when you look at slavery across all backgrounds. The variables are not so insignificant. It's a well structured analysis from Sowell. Whether you know it or not, you just proved a lot of points about the victim card.
I am not qualified to comment on the exposition of The Toast, but you have done a remarkable job of explaining things. We need Christian Nationalism in our local governments. The Screwtape Letters say so.
Enjoying this book from Kenya. It shows why Kikuyus dominate the economy except for manufacturing which is dominated by Indians. We're not genetically superior.
Would you be willing to do a Library tour? I appreciated your insight on C.S Lewis signature series and look for to your individual reviews of the books in the set.
You are completly wrong on the topic of jews. Thomas sowell cant express his honest opinion about this people, since he would lose all hits acadamia credentials. Most of the great thinkers of the past had the same opinion about this people. Read henry fords books for example. After reading his book in its entirety, come back and tell me if you still have the naive opinion about this group. Do your honest research and you will uncover some nasty truth. There is a book called "The history of central banks and the enslavement of mankind". Read this, it will open your eyes why everything is becoming worse with each year in almost every part of the world. This is not a coincidence, its well planned and goes for longer than you think Peace
Im speaking entirely on opinion - but in ephesians st paul says to wear the breastlate of rightouesness. I believe cs lewis thought of this when he said men with out chests.
You are able to explain things so well Daniel. Thank you for making this video. You are doing Gods work and encouraged me to take the path I knew was always the right one
This book sounds amazing I'll deffo read it. People forget that there's an entire race of beings scheming for men's downfall. It's an ancient battle and still ongoing!
Cut the chase!!! It means "Satan's Triumph in Destroying the Core of Mankind". Meaning man enjoy ignoring the TRUE NATURE/FUNCTION OF HIS OWN SOUL. There are lucrative industries that bebefit from it.
His books are interesting to say the least, 15 to 20 pages of references at the back of this book. (I'm too lazy to grab the book off the shelf, because I was born in the south to get an exact number of pages) I have seen Thomas Sowell for decades (since Milton Friedman's free to choose on PBS) & did not buy his books until about 20 years ago and have regretted that decision on the delay on not reading his works earlier ,ever since.
My husband bought the book at an Amazon sale out. But we didn't know that it has videos. 😢. We were very excited about reading "Person if Interest" but we realized that videos are necessary to read the guide.😢😢
I've learned from Chuck Colson, Prison Fellowship Founder, in his references he made to his audiences. Like so many, he had a high level for respect for C.S. Lewis.
Great content. Just a little tip for your editing: put an EQ with a highpass-filter (set it at around 100Hz) on your voice to reduce those plosives coming from your B´s and P´s.
What happened in Germany before and during ww2 was not because of Hitler, but because of the great depression, which was caused by democrats and government intervention in the usa free market (according to Sowell and Friedman). Sowell points out that germans were perhaps the most tolerant people, especially towards the jews, before ww1 and 2 but the depression rocked the boat just enough for guys like Adolf to float to the top.
The Abolition of Man is a staple of our Comparative Religions/Philosophy class since 2001. I agree w/ your assessment. It is the central most important work of 20th c. philosophy, hands down. It’s predictions are sadly coming true, however, high school seniors can understand and embrace this argument, thereby turning the relativistic tide toward an objective moral reality. There logically must be accessible objective truth for any value judgment to be rational.
