That spiral to the end especially just comes through like 3D. So much energy and love for her sport. We are fortunate to have been able to witness Michelle for so many years. Eternally grateful for her, Frank, Lori and the contributions of Michelle’s family.
Remember, she had had a cast, off the ice with a stress fracture, not able to do her normal training sessions, and muscle memory, mental toughness and a pure love for the ice is what we see here, this was and will remain The Gold Standard.
I was in the audience, behind the judges as a guest of Morry Stillwell. I had tears in my eyes, watching this program on screen doesn't begin to capture the magic of seeing it live. The entire audience held its breath as she went into the Lutz combination and if we could have done the jump for her, we would have. She was so beloved by the skating community. (For those in the know, I'm Kimber from AOL)
This comment made my day. Today is a rough day for me, and to help cope, I pulled Michelle's performance up. Thank you for this comment and making me smile.
Lu Chen's 96 World program is the best " rachmaninoff " LP . Michelle kwan's 98 US program is the best " rachmaninoff " SP. They are artists on ice in the history.
Michelle Kwan is absolute perfection…just wish there was a recording of this performance without having to listen to Dick and Peggy talking through the entire thing…sigh…at least Dick didn’t criticize her layback (if I heard him do that to one more skater, I would have screamed…like he ever did one.) You’re the best, Michelle!! Figure skating has gone to trash with the new scoring system…and, if it doesn’t change…we will never see another Michelle.
Class act all the way!! She definitely knew her craft. I was watching her on a show called star talk and she broke down how she jumped and what went into her spin. It made me understand more clear how they can sometimes change what they were supposed to do in a performance. She said it was muscle memory and ar the start their jump they can already feel if they have enough torque in their spin to make a triple or quadruple spin. I suppose if they feel they only have the torque to do three then they can change up in the middle of that jump/spin, and do just 3 spins without it looking like there was something missing. The judges know only because they have a sheet that tells them what each skater is going to do. Because the audience doesnt know what they are suppoed to do, they can sometimes boo when a skater gets a lower score than expected. It's beacause they didnt realize they were docked for not doing what they originally said they would. I am sure doing a triple clean is probably close to being the same as doing a quadruple and stumbling some but not falling. That's just a guess by the way.
The difficulty between a triple jump and a quad is exponentially harder than going from a single to a douple then a triple. It is a shame this was in practice. Seen her skate many times and she is pure grace on the ice. Amazing performer both physically and artistically.
Love the intro, it WAS clean, almost as if there was a debunking video involved. Rofl. Yes she completed the quad which very few women can do, but nobody is actually arguing her accomplishment here haha.
I loved the music and choreography of this program, just wish someone with the artistry to do it justice had skated it. So glad Lipinski beat her at the Olympics.
@@HowsaBowsaYowsa Oh, you mean that Sasha "I was being handed a world and Olympic championship but I didn't even have the ability to stand up and get it" Cohen? Or did you mean Sasha "I've only won one major title in my career" Cohen? Sorry. Michelle has eight more National Titles than Sasha. And five more World Titles than her. Then again, it's not hard to have more World Titles than Sasha cause she doesn't have one. Lol
Come through Michelle Kwan!! The greatest skater ever, skating the greatest short program ever. Brings me to tears ever time! Can i cry 1000 times? Yes.
Great program! Love seeing this! Her timing to the music is PERFECT here, especially when she landed the Double Axel. Literally perfectly timed with the music.
