Class act all the way!! She definitely knew her craft. I was watching her on a show called star talk and she broke down how she jumped and what went into her spin. It made me understand more clear how they can sometimes change what they were supposed to do in a performance. She said it was muscle memory and ar the start their jump they can already feel if they have enough torque in their spin to make a triple or quadruple spin. I suppose if they feel they only have the torque to do three then they can change up in the middle of that jump/spin, and do just 3 spins without it looking like there was something missing. The judges know only because they have a sheet that tells them what each skater is going to do. Because the audience doesnt know what they are suppoed to do, they can sometimes boo when a skater gets a lower score than expected. It's beacause they didnt realize they were docked for not doing what they originally said they would. I am sure doing a triple clean is probably close to being the same as doing a quadruple and stumbling some but not falling. That's just a guess by the way.
The difficulty between a triple jump and a quad is exponentially harder than going from a single to a douple then a triple. It is a shame this was in practice. Seen her skate many times and she is pure grace on the ice. Amazing performer both physically and artistically.
Love the intro, it WAS clean, almost as if there was a debunking video involved. Rofl. Yes she completed the quad which very few women can do, but nobody is actually arguing her accomplishment here haha.
Why is everyone complaining that it's not clean? I don't see them landing quads or even close to rotating 4 times in the air. Sasha is amazing and its very unfortunate that she didn't use the quad in the competition, because it could have changed ladies' skating as we know it.
and PS, that info comes from Kathy Casey herself, Olympic coach. thats why, when you do a double sal off ice, you are supposed to do the three turn, then do a half-rotation hop on your left foot and THEN take off once you are facing forwards. again, straight from the mouth of Kathy Casey
That was pretty good. The resoution on the video was so bad that it almost looked like just a triple to me. But now that you slow it down you can clearly count all four clean rotations and a clean, if not pitched forward, landing. Too bad she never got around to doing it in comp though
@diegokace I agree that she doesn't leave the ice going forward at the beginning, but if you watch all the guys who do this same jump, they do the same thing. You'd have to say everyone cheats this jump if you say that Sasha does. Even skaters doing this jump as a triple do the same thing.
show me a salchow that takes off completely backwards. find me a video, please. as people (and I) have already pointed out, the first half-rotation of a salchow ALWAYS takes place on the ice. i've already said this, but Kathy Casey teaches students to do double/triple sals off-ice by doing the three-turn, then hopping on the left leg 1/2 rotation so you are facing forwards and THEN having you take off like an axel. why? to compensate for the curve of the edge which ends up equaling 1/2a rotation
sk8rgrl89: What makes you think Sasha doesn't care about it? I read in her auto-biography thats she was so happy that she realised it was on film. I no that if i was Sasha and there was a video of me landing a quad in practice when i was only about 16, i would be so proud of that video! And it would make me happy ot watch video's of when i was younger, im sure Sasha loves to have a look at her videos from when she was little.
It was 3 1/4 revolutions, if you're going to be accurate at count rotations done IN THE AIR. You're allowed that 1/4 turn "cheat" on the landing so, yeah, this would in fact count as a clean quad.
A salchow takes off forwards. In fact, if you look at MOST skaters, their jumps take off forwards. There is NO skater that jumps up completely straight facing backwards and then does the full turn perfectly from there. The salchow ESPECIALLY does this, because it's an edge jump, it's basically an axel from a different entry.
you have to count when she lives the ice... she prerotates a full rotation... look close her feet and she is doing a rotation on the ice and then lives it. i really like sasha but this is a 3S not a 4S.Sorry. with this slow motion you prove that...
the first half-rotation of double/triple/quad sals are ALWAYS on the ice. its the curve of the edge. watch any multi-rotational sal and you'll see that the first half rotation is on the ice
k, the vid is unclear. first, to really know if the quad is cheated, the back inside edge has to be considered. if her blade is still stuck on the ice while she lifts off, then she is CHEATED. BUT, if her toe makes that 'Y' mark on the ice, then it's legit. however, with the blurred images, you can't really tell. ps. the vid. actually pointed out a legit mistake in the jump and that was the over-wrapped legs during landing of the jump which caused the obvious dip in the landing.
She leaned too far forward with her landing. But it was better than having her failed many times before. Most of them simply just gave up. Because it looks physically demanding on their slim build. It’s better that most athletes who don’t practice that much on their quad salchow, it’s best for them to give up on it.
Whatever... Just look at the take-off portion of it and you'll see that the first half rotation was done even before she left the ice. Just because many would say that's a clean quad, doesn't mean it is. A true quad entails 4 full rotations after leaving the ice, and before landing back onto the ice. Anything less is cheated - simple as that! As for Sasha...hahaha...she should just focus on landing all her planned triples in competition first...'nuff said.
sad..we can't ask Ulrich how to do it the correct way. but as I know, only single Salchow takes off backwards..look at every skater who does it at least doubles, it's supposed to be pre rotated on the take off.
it was cheated, if you look closely, she rotates a full rotation on the ground then lifts of, you can do a half rotation but not a full one. The landing was clean, but the the take off was not, anyways, she is still one of the best womens skaters, if not, one of the best womens skaters ever in the sport.
