With the exception of a trainer physically striking a trainee, this is the most accurate depiction of basic training I've ever seen up until the bathroom scene
Actually R. Lee Ermey's first time playing a Drill Instructor in a movie was in The Boys In Company C (1978) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2IzRiA_do8Q.html
@@Mr._Newb_McMuffinI agree times may have changed since ww2 but anyone who risk there life to keep our country free from terrorism deserves our gratitude
@@Brianchristenson-g6w Nah screw that, if you sign up for the military in the modern day I legitimately don't trust you. You're not a hero or even a good person just bc you're in the military.
I don’t think Hartman broke Pyle. I think the fact his fellow recruits beat him and betrayed his trust is what did it. Hartman seemed really proud of Pyle during marksman training.

God bless GySgt Hartman, he really loves his men, you can tell. How's that? He doesn't want to write the "Dear Mrs. Johnson, today your little Tommy died." Letter. He hates Washington. He hates civilian politicians for their lack of spine.
I've heard, guess in an interview way back, that R. Lee Ermey (Hartman) had very bad breath. By 3:14, you can see it from Pyle's face expression (besides trying not to laugh) :) 5/5 film.
Kids today frown up at this but, imagine being deployed and seeing the horrors of war. Watching your buddies brains blown clean out on a sunny day after exchanging jokes with eachother. Then coming back as a drill sergeant. You will be tough on them. Cause you know war is tough.
