Hello Eurofans! I'm an Irish🇮🇪 Eurovision analyst, reactor and superfan from Dublin, Ireland. I've been a passionate fan of Eurovision since I first got obsessed with Eurovision 1996.
On my RU-vid I post data driven analytical videos covering all aspects of Eurovision, from fan polls to looking at patterns and trends in previous years. I also do reaction videos covering all the National Finals and all entries from every country each year.
I'm very active in the comments section, so please leave me a comment there with your thoughts and any ideas for future videos 🤗

Can't remember if I thanked you for your videos this season. They are so smart and level headed and good spirited. And your so delightful! One of the best additions to my Eurovision seasons. 🙂
Hiya Tom! Guys! 😊 FYI, if you dont already know, watch Brunette being represented on the COLOR channel, with a new song. She's brilliant with a really cool song! Enjoy, cheers.
Loved this very early analysis, and your open positive personality 😊 you were also on point, we need to sell that kidney to go to Switzerland next year 😂😂😂 Nemo's song, music, lyrics and performer's authenticity was by far the most complex and enjoyable in this year's contest. I loved Mustii a bit more tbh but after Belgium didn't qualify, I ciuld focus on Nemo and I am soooooo happy they won. Absolutely deserved it. 🎉❤
I honestly think Songvakeppnin is fine, last year they had a borderline qualifier and this year the public chose Hera Bjork over Bashar who would have most likely qualified, it's a blip but with context I think they're fine honestly.
my friends from OGAE switzerland and i like the irish entry and special the irish fans. And I like your canel and i hope you have next year a lot of fun in me home switzerland.
Congrats Tom. How happy to see you feeling over the moon for Ireland’s incredible results. Honestly, Bambie was TOP on every level. WOW love from Armenia 🇦🇲
I would be suspicious of those 12 points from Azerbaijan & Moldova (over neighbouring Ukraine?!) for Cyprus if I was the EBU. After all, the song was composed by a member of the infamous "Dream Team" that used to contain Filip Kirkorov. And their songs always used to obtain weird voting patterns...
Overall I think Luktelk is my favourite of the season. Hey Tom, I know you've been busy with unrelated stuff, but have you heard Sudden Lights' recent single Eastern European Dream? Morgan says it sounds like an instant indie rock classic and we both love it.
I am Brazilian and I don't think Portugal high points were from Brazilian fans. At least from what I saw in my little fan circles... And we didn't come top 10 in countries that voted the most for RoTW
Agree Australia blew it, I always said that song could have qualified with the right energy but it wasn't good. Really messy and Z's vocals were poor towards the end, and they didn't look very happy Delighted that Raiven Qd.
Hi Tom, great video as always ! Just wanted to let you know that there is a HUGE former Jugoslavian diaspora all over Europe and the rest of the world, especially in the United States and Canada. One thing about this diaspora is, that they are all PASSIONATELY voting for all the former jugoslavian countries, since the rest of the world vote was introduced. Thats reason why Slovenia got 7 and Serbia 4 points from the rotw- vote, not because of a euro fandom thing.
I'm Portuguese and I've voted 5 times for Moldova :) so I like to believe i've contributed for the Portuguese 5 points to Moldova :) Also voted 5 times in Ireland. My fave in semi 1 was Croatia, but I was so sure it would reach the final, so I decided to help others :) In the final, I voted 5 times in Croatia, 5 times in Ireland and 5 times in Norway... my top 3 since the beginning. :)
I vote for the song, not the country. Every year I have different countries in my top ten, with the exception of Ukraine, which almost always sends great songs.
Hi Tom. I know you are the king of Eurovision stats. I thought you would be quite interested in the UK chart placing. After just one week Ireland, the UK and Ukraine have dropped out of the top 100. Nemo is 37 dropping from 18. Both Croatia and the Netherlands have dropped down considerably but are still in the top 100. When you look at Eurovision music in the UK charts it's really surprising how few chart toppers there have been. There has been 5 UK songs...Sandy Shaw, Cliff Richard, Brotherhood of Man, Bucks Fizz and Gina G. That last one was way back in 1996..... good grief. Only 4 foreign acts have had number ones. Dana, Abba, Johnny Logan and Nicole.....way, eay back in 1982.....scary.
About Serbia qualifiying in 10th two years in a row: maybe the producers should start picking other countries rather than Serbia and Albania to put in the #2 slot.
My thoughts. I think there's a lot of positives to be taken from the voting patterns in semi 1 this year. It's great that the quality entries from the first half shone through and that there were no undeserving casualties of the running order. Secondly, even though all of Poland's friends were in the semi, they didn't qualify. Which I felt was the right result. Thirdly, multiple ballads can qualify. Although, Serbia and Slovenia may have managed it because of neighbourly votes. I wonder if Slovenia's ROW votes came from all the Balkan countries that didn't participate this year and so would come under ROW.
Hiii! ✌️ I gave all my votes to Slovenia this year and last year as well. Reason I did that is because they sent really nice artists who had lower qualification chances, but nonetheless I could see how much they worked to be there and how genuinely happy and thankful they were for having the Eurovision Experience. I loved mother Raiven this year, I think her vocals were superb. And Joker Out brought so much energy and good vibes on stage. I think Slovenia artists from this year's and the last were very relatable and active on social media. I also hate to see such nice artists having lower qualification chances because their songs are more or less niche. I am the type of person who votes for the underdogs in the semifinals, ngl 😅 but I guess main reason I voted for Slovenia is because I voted with my heart, not just for the song but also for the people they sent. Sort of like Miss Congeniality award if you want to call it like that 😂
I wonder if the balkan non participants are showing up in rest of the world. I'm actually happy the balkan block stayed strong (despite being australian, that staging missed the strrngth i associate wuth electric fields). Hopefully it will encourage some of the others to come back.
One thing I noticed while looking at the Points Distribution is that every country that qualified from Semi-Final 1 (except Slovenia) got 12 Points from at least one other Country (Slovenia did get 2 10's) And the Only Non-Qualifier to get more than 6 Points form Any Country was Poland who got 8 Points from Iceland and 7 from Ireland. Also both the Top 2 Got Top 5 From Every Country. So Its not Only about getting Points From Every Country but getting Big Points from Every Country
croatia - a convincing victory (televoting) in the semi-final and final, while the announced winner Nemo was only fifth in the semi-final and final, unfortunately😮😮😮😮😮
Btw it's interesting what you're saying about young women being put in this position to be booed because of their government's actions. Remember what Russia did to avoid being booed after what happened to the Tolmachevy Sisters and Polina: they sent someone who everybody wanted to shag instead of boo. So I guess Israel knows what to do next year.
This result demonstrates really clearly that the former Yugoslav countries need to be split up just like Cyprus and Greece (or Belgium and the Netherlands before Luxembourg came back). With only three of those countries participating this year, I found it quite outrageous that they were all put in the same semi-final. Not to hate on their acts, but Serbia and Slovenia would not have been through to the final if either of them or Croatia had been in a different semi-final.
Then you would need to split many many other countries. There would be no end in considering who votes for whom, and who has the biggest diaspora and where. I hate that people always point at block voting in the Balkans and nowhere else, as if no one else is block voting. Everyone does. In the Balkans people share music. These artists are well known in all the countries, understood and loved. But they wouldn't get through if they sent bad songs badly performed. These were excellent songs, perfectly sung, and they deserved to go to the finals more than any of the songs that didn't go through.
@@belosevickris3379 I don't think you've seen the video or read anything I just said. Yes I don't like unfounded accusations of block voting either, but Slovenia getting 10 points from both Serbia and Croatia was quite the outlier compared to what they got from other countries. Same for Serbia. Had one of them, or Croatia been in the other semi, it would have been Australia rather than Serbia who would have made it. It's also not generalising to the Balkans, it's specifically the former Yugoslav states that do this. It's also not like separating countries is unprecedented, as I pointed out in my original comment. Greece and Cyprus have been split for many years now and until the reintroduction of Luxembourg this year, the Netherlands and Belgium were always in different semi finals as well. If you justify it for them, then why did you overlook this dynamic with these three countries. This is nothing about the quality of the songs, but about the reality of how was actually voted and whether the rules are applied equally to everyone.
@@tijmenwillard2337 Serbia and Slovenia had the worst running spots in the semi; especially Serbia. I think this is how they balanced things. Because Australia got an excellent running place, both this year and last year. We all know being later in the running order is the biggest advantage one can possibly get
@@belosevickris3379 I'm sorry, but I'm not quite convinced that this is even remotely of the same magnitude. Also, this block voting affects specific countries in specific ways. Having bad luck on the running order can maybe happen a few times in a row, but will in theory and over the long run affect everybody equally.
Thanks for your thorough analysis Tom. Very well put together and a lot of things I can agree with. Personally I liked the Australian song a lot more than Luxembourg's as well and I agree that Australia's staging was just not that inspiring. And it's lovely to see you so ecstatic about Ireland 🙂; fantastic job from Ireland this year and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that RTÉ will learn from this and move forward, like other countries (such as Switzerland) have. Btw Poles are the largest immigrant group in Iceland, so that might indeed explain Iceland's 8 points for Poland?
Yeah our staging really let us down. I think it was a bit rushed and lower budget. Would have loved a lot more Aboriginal dancing and reall could have celebrated our indigenous culture. Missed opportunity indeed.
10:30 or maybe we can just invite New Zealand to help Australia a bit. :P (If we exclude Croatian votes Australia would have been over both Slovenia and Serbia.)
But two of the three ballads just qualified because of neighboring votes. Slovenia and Serbia would have not qualified without each others’s and Croatia’s votes. (Having the whole three ex-Yugoslavian states in the same semifinal is… weird…) Even Portugal’s 12 points from Luxembourg are diaspora, although they would’ve qualified even without those. And maybe the votes from Portugal to Luxembourg are “reverse love”.
Yea I agree but at the end of the day, I think if Australia had sent more impactful staging, they would have made it. Also they had the best running order of those 3
I think you're on to something about the ROTW vote putting in a lot of votes for beloved songs that are in trouble. In a lot of places online I saw how people were saying Raiven was in trouble, I think even in one of your videos I saw you said that lmao. So instead of voting for absolute favorites we would vote for someone in our top 5 or top 10 who we think won't be able to make it otherwise.
Interesting that both the UK and Ireland gave 12 points to Lithuania! Is it just the kind of sound that's trendy over here? I absolutely loved Luktelk and voted for it loads in both the semi-finals and the final, but I didn't think the whole country would, most other Brits think my music taste is weird 😂
