I am having fun making things and learning at the same time ! I'm a mechanic by trade but enjoy making and repairing things at home in my shop.
if this sounds like the kind of thing your interested in please feel free to watch some of my videos you might get inspired to do something or maybe learn something and hopefully have fun along the way .
Hey sorry I didn’t reply yet, It is a bxa wedge style from accusize, it needed the base milling to fit in the compound as the threaded bar is bigger than the original. It was a kit with 5 tool holders that If I remember correctly they have 5/8 clearance in the holders for tools.
Was having same issue on a just rebuilt Rockwell lathe. When I reassembled I set the compound on 30 degree mark. Moved it to 60 and problem solved. Thanks for making this video. Hello from Pennsylvania, USA.
Stand for the portaband makes a good use for the heavy Milwaukee, but I made a stand with table that can be adjusted for stock height: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H8_wq81954c.html I found that you need to have stock close to the upper bearing to get best results, so table adjusts up within inch or so if needed. Harbor Freight had been selling a light weight portable band saw- copy of an old Porter Cable unit. These are selling now for 10- 20 bucks, and they have square sides that can be bolted to a piece of angle iron to make a horizontal chop saw- and use the Milwaukee blades. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pnUUbzQBWAM.html This came from outsidescrewballs utube channel.
My little metal lathe came with a backsplash, but there are a couple of other things that make cleaning the swarth a bit easier. Removable chip tray for the bottom chip pan: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q615prreExA.html Ways protector plate that attaches to left side of the carriage to keep crap and prevent damage: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cC_jhK_S540.html
@@fabricationfun1509 I went with this small removable ways cover plate and made two sizes- smaller one can be used with carriage stops or dial indicator holders or DROs. ( time 1:36 of this video) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-31qOp7atyC4.html Plates are just 1- 2mm steel plate held with 10-32 screws tapped into top of the left side of carriage. Also saw a couple videos on Digital DROs for tailstock and worked up this one made from inexpensive tire depth gauge- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sHcdEutcs5g.html Wish I had the room you to have to work in...
It was cool to see the riser at the point you had it the other day, it looks good. Using the e-clip is a much better idea than the rolling crimp idea I fought with, you'll have less headache. Good spot for the stickers, looking forward to getting one from your first batch when you get one put together!
Gday, you have done a really nice job on the riser, I really like the feet idea, brilliant, thanks very much for the shout out and if you would like some more stickers just yell out, great video mate, very enjoyable to watch, ATB Matty
I switched to straight in plug cutting with the tool upside down and turning from the left moving right. Works great, don't have to fool with cranking two places. Many times you will be turning threads to a shoulder. By starting at the undercut, by the shoulder, you always get a full thread there and at the right end you have lots of room to stop. Some metals don't cut well at very slow speeds. You can run faster starting at the shoulder since usually the right end stop point has plenty of room. This wasn't my idea I took it from Joe Pie's videos.
I needed your tip 6 months ago when I was cutting my first thread on the mini lathe, it started out tearing up the thread, I didn’t know what I was doing wrong so stopped using the compound and just plunged in, hey it worked. I didn’t know what was wrong until a subscriber commented it looked like my compound was set at 60 degrees, just as you explained I had set it to the work piece axis not the chuck. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Peter
Hi. I have a small and recently started youtube channel, just like yours. I think you never have to be afraid to ask questions. Stupid questions does not exist. There's lots of youtubers out there who can and will help you with usefultips. Share your experience, and the most important, have fun.
Man, like I was saying when you were over the other day, I made a bonehead move and wiped out one of my cameras with a stringy chip. Thing is I've only got a few types of tool holders, will need to invest in and experiment with others to come up with a better breaking chip on alloy. Hopefully it will be safer and less expensive then, lol!
My lathe is an old Australian made lathe, and it's marked exactly as yours is. Some lathes have the 0 mark 90 degrees different to ours. So, the trick is to set it to 90-29 (=61).
Gday, I’ve had a lathe for 20 odd years and never cur threads on simply because it has a fear bit of wear, I recently brought a new lathe and wanted to start cutting threads and sure enough I screwed it up until I worked out the compound had to be set at 60 not 30(29.5), I’m already bald but I pull out any other hear I had trying to work out what was going on, great tips mate ATB Matty
As a fellow RU-vid machining channel It is some times hard to decide whether to post a video that Might teach others something ? Myself i have posted Many video,s about different topics. Some fair well Others Not so well. I always feel it,s good to share knowledge. You can never know how much of a difference it can make. You can watch a 10 minute video and find a 10 second gem that could make your day. Keep posting, good to see your back. Peter.
Very cool to see how it came together before you brought it over, I was impressed by the finish on it when I saw it. Thanks again for the good visit. That adapter really shortened the shifter, the throws between gears will be very short now!
Just finished cutting threads with the compound rest set at 60.Perfect results. I intend to scribe a line on the other side of the compound and cross slide just for threads
Love the Music. You put together a great video. The way you make your video,s you could get us watching you Mowing the lawn and we could still enjoy it, LOL.
