So what does knurling the Piston skirt do?
@jondahl9826
@jondahl9826 2 часа назад
Does it hold oil and make the piston more stable? Or does the raised part of the knurl just tighten up the gap?

I rebuilt the 292 Y block in my 57 F100 in h.s. I had the local NAPA shop do this to the pistons, and they also knurled the valve guides. It was a great runner, smooth and quiet. This was in 1976....😅

I'm thinking you could just drill a hole through it and put a pin in there, then at the end he shows a drill bit and some pins

Getting ready to clean the RA shafts off of my dad’s old 1955 Dodge. Yups it’s got a Hemi. He’s been gone many years now and that old car he bought in 55 he just hardly ever drove it, just suffered from non use. Just getting it all freshened up! Thanks for the tip!

Smokey was nothing short of a mechanical genius. I bought his book 'How to Hot Rod a Small Block Chevy" (or something to that effect) 50 years ago and studied that thang diligently...and built a .030 over 327 into a bomb.

Torque is torque dude. If the fasteners are quality that’s absurd and can be destructive.

@causeimbatmaaan
@causeimbatmaaan День назад
@@MrDanielSoliz I’m sure I do and I am a machinist and engine builder. There’s a difference between re-torque and checking torque. If you’re getting more turn out of your fasteners you didn’t torque them correctly the first time or they’re yielding. (Ruined). Don’t over torque your fasteners. Coming from someone who actually understands tension, yield strength and clamping force. 😉 Good luck

I'd like to know how a knurled piston makes more power? I would think knurling allows more oil to be held in suspension and may increase compression from the extra oil on the cylinder walls but i highly doubt it would make any kinda noticeable difference difference on the dyno I would think the knurling would increase the service life of the piston Or possibly a very heavy knurling on a excessively worn piston skirt may increase the overall diameter of the piston, allowing for better ring seal but if you engines that wore out, I think knurling may be kinda pointless
@MrDanielSoliz
@MrDanielSoliz 3 дня назад
I think your question has the answer in it. Better ring seal. Do you think better ring seal would make more power?

I'm just a Random dude in the comments. Before you go and turn your pit bull lose on your pistons. Check out line to line Coatings. Then watch lake speed test it. Say goodbye to, blow by, put it above top piston ring, say good by to piston rock and nockit dee nock, when cold with those Forged pistons . $35 each on set of 8. Plus They have ceramic coatings for the top.
@MrDanielSoliz
@MrDanielSoliz 3 дня назад
This was an old school way to make more HP, more definitely the piston manufacturer have come a long way. If you follow Lake speed then you have seen our videos on honing, and making more power. You may want to get you a copy of the new Race engine technology magazine. You may also want to go over to Engine Builders Magazine. I know about coatings and a bit more.
