I'm crazy about watches - that's the short version. My channel is all about the discovery of new watches from trying out the classics to see if they live up to expectations to uncovering those more left-field models & brands that don't get as much love as icons like the Rolex Daytona or the Omega Speedmaster, but that still more than deserve to be owned and loved.
Shah Lusso is a channel covering everything on the journey of watch collecting - from watch reviews to buying guides, ownership tips, watch strap reviews and much more. Watch the videos, join the discussions & most of all, enjoy.
New watch enthusiast here. I'm very happy with my first watch that I bought; the Victorinox Airboss with the Valjoux 7750 chronograph movement. Keeps time very well, and I cannot complain about outsourced movements.
Couldn't agree more, it's got so much going for it all packed into some really useable dimensions. I wish they could do the same with their current POs...but thats the joy of these older ones being out there :D
Thank you so much! 😊 it’s one of my favorite watches too and it was amazing to get the opportunity to shoot one, now a few years on I wish I could reshoot it with my newer equipment just to do justice to how beautiful that dial is. Hope you can get your grail Overseas soon ;)
Thats pretty stupid. Simply because they weren't called A Lange and Sohne, and they were on vacation for a while... A rose is a rose, and by any other name it would still be A. Lange and Sohne !
Thinking of buying the aquaracer, caliber 16 , its used which puts me off a bit because its one thousand pounds and i dont want to waste that money on buying the tag only to find out a year down the line it needs work on the automatic movement or something else just as bad.
Unfortunately servicing is something that rears its head one way or the other with mechanical movements - though admittedly the Calibre 16 is based on an ETA7750 or Sellita SW500, so as far as automatic chronographs go its one of the cheapest to run because of how many watchmakers know how to work on it and readily available replacement parts. Best bet though to buy yourself some peace of mind is to buy it pre-owned with a warranty. More and more pre-owned dealers are offering warranties on watches, Chronext and Watchfinder both offer 2 year warranties, I bought my Breiting Chronomat a few years ago from a smallerindependent dealer that offered a 1 year warranty (bold considering it was a 30 year old watch), but you can find dealers out there that do it :)
Mine is a tritium 1967 5513. Breathtaking, extraordinary. No need to swim with it. Spending 10K or more to go swim or dive now and then is preposterous. You don't need a Rolex for that.
I own 3536-01. Wear it on an IWC rubber strap from later model. Very nice watch, light, legible, and very scratch resistant. It's my travel/vacation watch, flies under the radar, don't have to worry about my safety when traveling in places plagued by watch theft, be that London, Paris, or developing countries where a watch with more bling/recognition may prove to be an attractive target. I've only had one person ever comment about it when wearing, and he was a serious watch enthusiast. In my opinion, if it was 40mm and just a tad thinner, it would be perfect. But those are nitpicks, it's a great, rugged watch. Totally underrated. Appreciate your video. Prices have been climbing, get yours now, Gents!
Buying an in-house movement is like buying a used Rangerover or Audi. A certain headache. I can repair an ETA 7750 or an 08 Dodge Ram 1500 fairly easily. But, that isn't what buying high-end watches is about. It isn't about what is practical or intelligent. Or, what is mechanically sound. It is about satisfying the ego. I'd buy a $30k Rolex if the spot value of the precious metal content of that watch was $20k as of today. Their products are around $1k-6k in precious metal content on average. Where is the ''value'' outside of name recognition? It's all a BS social status gimmick with watches. I've driven supercars. They are different than watches. That is a poor comparison. The only objective competition variables between different automatic watch movements is accuracy and longevity. A supercar can do a lot of shit that an 08 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck can't. There is value addition. There is little to no value addition with this BS market of ''high-end'' watches. It is just branding value. That isn't objective value.
I love this watch and I'm a Porsche owner, never owned a Ferrari. Regardless, it's a beautiful chunky watch that I would love to own & even prefer it over some Panerai's & I'm a various model Panerai owner. I would wear this proudly.
Ufff it’s been a long time since I got these straps - and from what I remember it did vary depending on the leather you pick, my recommendation would be to reach out to him directly and he’ll give you a quote based on what you’re after. Regarding the clasp, I actually purchase my clasps separately from strapsco.com for my pasha’s straps, those were around US$20 if I remember right (also best to check though since it was a while ago) Hope that helps :)
I have to agree, and totally unexpected, I didn’t even know that zenith had a diver like that in their back catalogue until this and the revival version came out, really interested to see where it goes and if they introduce a smaller Defy Skyline sized diver in the future :)
The tolerances were quite well judged so it doesn’t scrape on the way in, and it’s a snug enough fit that it didn’t wobble too much once fitted - so long story short no scratches on the inside of the lugs :)
So tag bought a Lexus from Japan, changed the wheels and rear view mirrors and claimed it created the whole thing.... That's not difficult to understand.
Si tanto tiempo! Todo bien conmigo, mucho trabajo e intentando resucitar mi canal - con suerte eventualmente empezaria a publicar en mi canal en español tambien :) Que tal todo contigo?
Good news! In the time since i released this review, Zealande also introduced a deployand buckle option too, and i actually was able to fit an Omega style aftermarket buckle to the Zealande strap too and it worked just fine - so plenty of options to make it work if, like me, you prefer a deployand buckle :)
It's a great watch. Like the Sub there are some *incredibly* good fakes made in China. The lug-to-lug is too much for a wrist under 7". The 3120 base movements (diver and chrono) are prone to ejecting the crown and crown stem, it's held onto the watch by a very small set screw. If yours comes off the watch, do NOT try to put it back yourself, take it to AP or a very good watchmaker.
#savage 😂 and yeah id love to do a feature about the in house movements vs the work they put into rebuilding 7750s before they went in house - from what I understand IWC was one of the few mainstream brands that was doing proper modifications to their ETAs instead of just dropping them in with a branded rotor and calling it a day 😅
The Aston I can’t speak for (though arguably at the time it would have counted as a performance car?) but the sub in the 60s and 70s when Bond wore it was still very much a tool watch that put function first over everything, and its pricing at that time while not cheap was still far off where they’re positioned today. But none of that is to say the Sub for example is a worse off watch for that, only that it was a purposeful watch that over time was made more luxurious while the Offshore is the result of a luxury watch being given a new purpose :)
What do you think of the Offshore Diver? What are your favorite luxury dive watches that go luxury first but don't sacrifice on the diver side either? Let me know in the comments!
My wife bought me one new back in the day. White dial with a great bracelet. It was on clearance because of the "scandal", which is the only way we could have ever afforded one back then. I think it's beautiful and it's still my favorite watch. Knowing the watch snobs hate it makes me enjoy wearing it that much more.
Uff must've been a steal back in the "scandal" days! Yeah i love how against the grain it goes, but IMO it really is one of those watches that you need to look past the optics or image of it to see that it's objectively a good watch - especially for what these pre-owned ones go for these days.
Oooh now that would be bold of Tudor to take the fight straight to Rolex like that, but we could be closer to that than ever (though maybe still with a date) now with that new chronograph movement they developed for the onlywatch piece...i'm sure that'll find its way into regular production soon enough and with all 3 registers front and center :D
It's a tough choice, both are iconic pilot watches and both have modern iterations with uprated movments or neo-vintage models with 7750s for crazy good value. I guess the big deciding factor is the information overload from all the scales on the Navitimer, or the cleaner look of the Pilot's Watch, but both are great watches with tons of fun dial, bracelet and movement variaitons (though when it comes to bracelets the IWC wins hands down)
I'd love to do that comparison, I just need to get my hands on the right Navitimer for it - the few times I've had a chance its usually one of the ETA 2892 based ones, personally I'd rather feature one of the 7750 or B01 based Navitimers so it's a proper comparison to the older Pilots or the current ones respectively, but it's definitely a review that's on my to-do list once I get a chance to shoot the Navitimer.
this one had it but it was very faded - i just double checked the original footage before i recolored it and there it shows but very faintly. The example from the video was a 2006 model so likely it faded in the nearly years since the original owner bought it
I had a subby and a Seadweller. Now I have 2 X Aquatimers instead. Just aesthetically nicer imo, and far more legible pieces. I'm a big fan at preowned prices though.
Many thanks for insights I just today received my Zenith Daytona with white dial ( T series) with box and papers Had the watch authenticated by independent T360 here in Dubai Thanks
Congrats on picking up a Zenith Daytona! It's a great watch and I hope you enjoy it for years to come :) and Timepiece 360 are great, I did some videos with them back before the pandemic, really knowledgeable team and very welcoming :)
@@ShahLusso Amazing Btw this is second watch I bought after your guidance First was VC Gen 2 chronograph in with blue dial. You were spot on. That watch soo sought after by soo many people
Glad to know i could help! Ironically - the VC Overseas video was one of the ones I shot with TP360 - it's such a beautiful watch, especially that blue dial...nothing like it. IMO it's even nicer than the current gen's blue dial.
Very difficult to find this version of the Planet Ocean new since it’s been discontinued for so long - best bet would be to keep an eye out on Chrono24 for new old stock or unworn examples
Very good review. I agree with most of your commentary. I like the watch but also now you would be aware there is the similar Quaranta (yes...now with 100m WR, so not so bad as the previous 30m but still not 300m, although it is probably thinner as a benefit for smaller wrists than PAM70). I am, however, confused about the difference between your PAM70 and the similar older 40mm blue PAM119. Any thoughts on that? I was looking for a 119 then saw this!
True the Quaranta is definitely a step in the right direction and with the 100M water resistance it's at least worthy of Panerai's maritime history, but it did take them way too long to come out with it after sitting on the Due for a long time. As for the 70 vs the 119, from what i can tell the only difference is the bezel is polished on the 119 and brushed on the 70, so the PAM70 is just that tiny bit more stealthy. Hope that helps & thanks for watching :)
I just had it first time in my hand in a Seiko boutique. It felt great, it looks awesome and it is dangerously close to the luxury section of Grand Seiko. Honestly I don't see a reason to buy a King Seiko for twice the price. One employee said it might be that these models will not be delivered anymore, but he wasn't sure about. He though that the new Classic line might be replace the Sharp edge, which would be a shame. The red dial in the day light was just such a stunner and I think I will add it to my collection.
