Boys it really depends on the rubber uv got underneath u, be serious, u can't do those tracks on road tyres or even 70/30. But i Really enjoyed it, seems u guys did too, thanks for sharing 💯🇦🇺🤘 We used to called it paddock bashing, more like body bashing 🤣 I'm loving the cfmoto 450mt
My front tyre definitely wasn't suitable for these conditions. The cfmoto getting pushed at the start was on the stock tyres but the other one was on motoz adv rear and desert ht front and did the same hill much easier. They are a nice bike to ride and seem to be well built.
Barry looks good on that vstrom! 🙂 You've definitely convinced me not to go for the Motoz DV... I can attest that after my trip to the outback, the Anakee Wild makes for a very good front tyre... A little loud on tarmac but great grip all around.
Sorry young fella but in the last 2 videos you give great reasons NOT to buy a Vstrom. Fragile mechanically, easily damaged and not great handling. Be safe and don't hurt yourself.
If you plan on doing this type of riding I wouldn't recommend a V-Strom, it's much more suited to touring and easy gravel roads. Having said that, I enjoy pushing it's limits and have modified it for more off road use. I have just changed to a Motoz dual venture front tyre which isn't suited to these conditions, I will be going back to the Desert HT. As far as mechanically fragile keep in mind the bike is 16 years old and done 150,000km's. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@OzADVRider Would you do this ride as shown without the mods?? Yes I hate the mud. Really don't like the slip. Does the 21 inch compensate for the weight as she is a great 'reliable' tank. Love the vids
@patchpaddy I would of tried it when the bike was standard. Not sure if I would of made it. I lot of the tracks I now do reasonably easy I could do on a standard strom, just a lot slower and more effort.
Really looking forward to everything drying out, I don't mind the mud, but it's getting to be pretty annoying lately...that Wombat mud is a real challenge at times
Yeah, it wasn't exactly fun. Very slippery and the front tyre washed out far too easy. Think I'll go back to the desert HT front tyre. Dual venture is a pretty good all round tyre but no good in these conditions.
Yep. While this bike has been very reliable, I have no interest in replacing it with a more modern bike. I have considered fitting carbys to the vstrom, bit beyond my skill set though.
Thanks for sharing, I have 2007 model with 135,000 kms, just starting to get a few issues. Do you use a specific tool for code error diagnostics and re-calibrating the electrical system? Thanks
On my Gen 2 dl650 I splashed out for the genuine high pressure filter (comes with new pressure regulator) as well as the suction filter. Pump was actually ok and had no problems for a couple of years now. I cut the high pressure filter open and it is a multi layered stainless steel mesh type so would backflush with carby cleaner and compressed air or better still ultrasound clean.
I'm pretty confident the filter is clear, I could blow through it. Bike is running much better now but it would still be nice to know which part was at fault.
@iaindarville9743 Same as the little foam filter in the air box above the crankcase breather hoses, mine started disintegrating and went all through the airbox.
Very easy to crash in those conditions. Really have to pick a line and stick to it. No real injuries but being an old bloke I was a bit stiff for a few days.
first rule when riding in wombat - DONT HESITATE ON LINE SELECTION - commit and have confidence in your ability to ride through ANY water filled rut no matter how long-deep
You're spot on! First stack I was distracted seeing how deep the water was but should not of touched brakes or tried to turn. The 2nd stack was because my confidence had dropped and I hesitated. I was very annoyed at myself because I knew exactly why I hit the deck. We did a few more slippery tracks after that without issue, so I'm happy I moved on and didn't repeat my mistakes.
Thanks mate. You can keep doing the same tracks and they are completely different each time. There's a video of Barry and I flying down this track. I'm sure we'll find plenty more tracks in there this summer!
DAMN.... After watching this: 1. I am sooooo glad I didnt come along on the big Pan Am 2. The Himalayan seems to handle thos conditions the BEST😎 3. It looked very slippery and slimey🤮 4. Hope your mended Ian
The Pan Am would of been a handful going up that slippery hill, I was surprised how much worse it was after one week. It's good fun when dry. Andy's bike goes anywhere, it helps that he's a great rider too. I'm still a little sore, think I bruised a rib. Pretty sure it's from my PLB.
Amazing ride, but scary , braking down out in the forest, glad it all worked out well in the end, I’ve got the same bike but in stock version, scary prices on the fuel pump replacement, I hope mine is alright! Cheers from Geelong! ❤️🦘🦘🦘🇦🇺
One good thing about those tracks is they are fairly short and end up back on a main road. There's always other bikes and 4wd's around too. I rode mine stock for a long time but got bored during lockdowns and started modifying it. Great bike!
@@OzADVRider I took the road tyres off, and fitted Nobby tyres, intention of some dirt trail riding but mostly just ride it to work , no time for bush rides, and the Nobby have done over 6,000 klms, which is amazing I thought, yes they’re pretty much bullet proof bikes, mines a 2008 model.
Hey thanks, I enjoyed that. A genuine adventure, no frills, just beautiful trails and a calm, practical approach to each challenge. Well done mate. Refreshingly authentic.
I would still be looking at replacing the high pressure filter or at least ultrasounding it. Gen 1 dl650 has the same style of fuel pump assy as my sv1000s. I did what you have just done and 1000 ks later was up for a new pump. Look carefully at the parts diagram online and you will see the high pressure filter. It may be included as the complete housing.
Yes, still a bit worried about the HP filter. I've replaced pump, regulator and strainer and it's running great. Suzuki sells HP filter and regulator as one unit, I may replace it still.
Tracks look pretty good but the ruts are a pain. So, how are you finding the front tyre? What are you mating it with (as in the rear) 😂 Hoping you have the fuel pump sorted.
Something was wrong with it to stop in the 1st place. Not sure if it would of ran if I assembled it correctly on the track. I've now replaced the pump, strainer and regulator and it's running great.
Pretty lucky to find the part. Only reason I went looking is because the bike shop didn't have it in stock and I didn't want to wait! Finding my tools was a bonus, I wouldn't of noticed until I needed them.
Good ride, riding can fix most of those "got stuff going on" moments...If I was more organised I would think about packing my mocha pot, a brew by the creek seems like a good idea...the day I did Bannermans, found some tracks off/around Old Binks Track..check your maps, plenty down that way.
Thanks mate! I much prefer my trackside coffee rather than a cafe. I've done some exploring around Binks track, lots to choose from. Colbrook reservoir is really nice. There was some snow in wombat today, we're heading there tomorrow, hopefully not too slushy.
@@OzADVRider Just got in from work to watch the remainder of the video, really appreciate the "shout-out" .... got up to your coffee break before I had to pretend to do some work.👍
Congratulations. Awesome bike and very capable off road, you just have to take your time and be mindful of the lack of ground clearance. Modified mine a lot since this video and love it.
i watched the video because i ve got a big sludge on the oil sight glass and i cant see the oil level easy and i am thinking seriously of doing the surgery. It happened right after i had the first engine flush with liqui moly flush after 85000 klm and i never had this problem before with simple oil changes. Its a great video and the only one that i found to show how to remove the cover. If you know any easier method how to clean the oil sight glass without removing the cover please tell me mate, thank you.
Thanks for the feedback, I try and include all the steps on these jobs. Unfortunately, the only way I can see to clean the sight glass is to remove the cover. Good luck!
They're not the best on wet tar but awesome for everything else - it's a 80/20 tyre so fit for purpose :-) My second set on the T7 and the new Dualventure front is heaps better than original version. See you out on (and off) the road!
Cheers mate! Haven't been on the wet road yet but guessing they're better than the desert ht. It handled some greasy tracks in Wonbat pretty well before my bike died. Hope to have it going again soon.
