I can remember buying soldier of fortune magazine as young teenager and reading Colonel Coopers articles on handgun techniques and being wide eyed looking at his holstered cocked and locked 1911 . It was like the coolest thing I ever seen growing up in a gunless environment.

To much bs these days with gun tubers. Love this. Just down to the point with no crap about this is why tier one units do it this way. Cause it’s tactical and tactical is the best way isn’t it. Lol.

When I bought Guns and Mmo in the 70s and 80s I read two articles: Sixguns by Keith and Cooper on Handguns. I learned a lot from both of them.

My 1974 gunfight took place after 6 PM in late November on a dark outdoor parking lot. I could not see the sights on my issued Colt DS but I could see the suspect, and managed to get four center mass hits inside 5 yards. I fired 12 shots, reloading under fire, but am not sure which of the 12 hit their mark. I did have a flashlight but did not have time to grab it before the suspect’s rounds came my way.

When I went to Jeff's classroom I had a Smith and Wesson 19 but I wanted a 1911 and I remember I asked him for advice on what gun is best and he advised me to buy a Colt 1911 gold cup and after I got home I got me one, Jeff had a 1911 Colt he called it - pinto - the top was blue and the frame was stainless and he had it put on adjustable sights

By “surprise break,” I think he means there must be no anticipation of the detonation in the trigger pull. Is that correct?
@bradenjames670
@bradenjames670 7 месяцев назад
Correct. You are not choosing when the gun goes off. Start Applying the trigger and maintaining sight alignment until it surprises You. If You have to shoot fast say You only have 1/4 second window of time the trigger is just applied faster while still being a surprise "break".

I've heard Col. Cooper referenced many times, sure wish I hadn't watched this. Been wanting to read his book on rifles, not so sure anymore. Think I'll stick with what I learned, and taught, in the Patrol. Really believe we had the best program I am aware of. I guess I should qualify that...for law enforcement. I've heard rumors of how some of the elite army units train, and if true, they are at a whole different level, the funding would have to be limitless.
@Christopher33312
@Christopher33312 Год назад
Mr. Cooper, respectably, it's time for a fifth rule. Idea... Add this to the basic handgun safety rules... When handing a person an empty gun, you have to say "This Gun is Empty.". The receiving can then essentially say "It better be." And they Check-it... AND IF WRONG THE OTHER PERSON HAS PAY TO $50 OR THE RANGE FEES, WHATEVER ... $10, $20, $50, $100 if you're rich. Significant enough to sting a little. If this is adopted in popular/gun control, it could really help increase Gun Safety. Do you agree? We could make shooting more fun with this added competition, save thousands of lives and unnecessary injuries in accidental or negligent discharge has, and I'll set up a Kickstarter so I can get tips from all the gun people who adopt this new rule. !!! 😃

I had the privilege of attending Basic and intermediate pistol classes under Jeff’s tutelage. Amazingly intelligent and articulate man. His basic rules of gun handling have probably saved thousands of lives as you will see video of soldiers of most nations running around with their fingers outside the trigger guards. That includes Russians. Countless civilians and police as well. Jeff’s methods and techniques were subject to constant evolution, always based on what was safe and what worked. He received a continuous stream of feedback from his thousands of students. Basics are basics. So egos were chucked at the door. Students were there to learn and instructors to teach. Hence when the firing relay had members of SEAL Six and a young barber from Georgia, that was okay. A composition of equals. Everyone was armed and it was one of the most enriching environments I’ve ever experienced.

Col. Cooper is wearing a gun without a tactical gun belt and a non retention holster? How dare he? On a serious note, Cooper was a man's man and I am sure that he was perfectly confident in his carry style and gear.

@tsarbomba1
@tsarbomba1 Год назад
Part of the problem is it's most likely a copy of a copy. Even if someone could get the broadcast master that was used to make these VHS audio may still be an issue. You could do some tweaking on this, but without the original audio that was recorded in the field you may only have limited success.
