Some of the beauty of FM synthesis not so much talk about. Just sheer feelings. Something that words cannot express. I think Brian Eno utilized DX-7 in some of his early works oh so well. This simple demonstration is already haunting me. Great work man.
@@ripplesr5655 Thank you for the kind words! I use to listen to Robert Fripp and Brian Enos albums when I was a kid, I need to go back to some of that stuff! If you liked this I made this video in between recordings for my new album I just released. distrokid.com/hyperfollow/dahkkloud/i-fear--4 it’s out on Spotify and Apple Music. It uses the dx7 in conjunction with my modular set up. I’m glad people are enjoying my music!
@@Dahkkloudmusic Oh hell! You got a modular setup?! Idk if you have any vdo on your channel messing around with the modular. Going to check'em as soon as get off the work. I went to your distro profile, couldn't follow you due to me not using spotify here. Will do that as well. You have a good one man.
Thank you! Yeah, only once I had one for myself and learnt how to program it did I start to see how deep it is. It’s such a beautiful misunderstood synth!
Ah! So with the swell pedal sometimes I get into a habit of “pumping” the pedal with the pulse of the tune instead of using it to follow the form of the phrases I’m playing in my right hand. The pedal should be used to create dynamic effects instead of the bad “pump” habit which gives the organ this uncomfortable jerked dynamic feel. In this video I was focusing my practice on NOT pumping haha which means I’m focusing more on my phrasing!
Ah, I see you've skipped the first part where the melody is played... May it be because one of the lovely tenor men may have carelessly blundered on it? More specifically while playing the A section 3 times in a row?
You're killing it man! Funny, I practiced the exact same standard in the same way (LH walking bass RH lines and comping all on organ). Your LH is already very fluent! I think what would help your RH is simplify your improvisations and play more legato (that worked for me at least).
All my patches are my own custom ones. I love programming the dx series synths, they’re not as difficult as people make them out. I think that most of its “difficultly” comes from the fact that they were made at a time when most people hadn’t even used a computer. I’ve been meaning to make a video about the dx series but haven’t yet
Oh thank you! Nah these are all programmed by me. The DX series has a bad name for being this complex instruments, but I think that comes down to the time it was made. Back in 1984 no one had a computer haha or nearly no one, and I’m sure it was too complicated for the time. nowadays I bet if people gave it a shot, people would love programming it themselves. I love the dx haha
