I use the pre burst mode on my G9ii and love it. Any idea why it's such an ISO hog?. Moving the dial to shutter priority from pre burst using same shutter speed results in a dramatic drop in iso.
What an awesome video!! Congrats!! I'm actually shooting with an S5II and I 'm happy with it, but I'm very surprised about the sharpness and (specially) the colors out of your GH6 (May be it's just me, but... Wow!!). How do you feel about shooting with both systems? Do you feel any diferences between the colors out of G9II, GH6 and S5II? Thank you very much in advance!! :)
On my latest tour (which I will make a video about as soon as I find time) I took the S5ii and the G9ii. I traded in my GH6 as I wasn't using it anymore after getting the G9ii. My current setup is the best I've ever had. G9 and GH6 were great but G9ii is next level, and the S5ii is fantastic for photos that don't need that huge reach I can get on the G9ii with 100-400mm + 2x crop. I don't know why you would have any concerns about sharpness, that comes down to a good lens and proper camera technique. When it comes to colour, I think the new models are best. I find Lumix in AWB tends to lean a little towards magenta, but not so much on the G9ii and S5ii. But I shoot RAW anyway so I can make little adjustments to my colours in processing.
Instead of using the pre-burst SH mode can you use the 4/6K photo mode ? where I think you may be able to save only the best image whereas the mode you describe will create 20 or 60 images. Do you think this will compromise picture quality and have you covered this in one of your videos?
The 4K mode only allows you to extract JPEG files. I shoot everything in RAW so that's something I have never tried. So no, there is no video on that. Thanks for all your comments.
Well explained but it would have been better if you described how to play back and select the individual image you want, I’m struggling to do that, I wonder if you could point me in the right direction-ooops, found your other video on how to do this in camera, thanks mate.😊
I know this video is old now but have somehow randomly stumbled upon it. I also do the same as you, but I have mapped the front button near the lens release to do zoom. This way, I can have the benefit of Single area, but if you need to confirm focus. You can easily at the same time press the front programmable button to confirm the focus.
Hi could you save your g9 and g9 mk ii camera setting then show them to us to use in cluding your cutom settings to ! I think your videos are very good thanks
You only need to look back through my videos and you will find plenty of content that covers these. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fQt2OLvis2g.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-haHGthCMc6Y.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qQqZG5fyZ2s.html
That was very informative and clearly showed what's possible with these filters. Now don't laugh, but I just bought myself a brand new D850 and I will order this NISI kit before the EOFY sale ends tomorrow. It should go well with my Sigma 24-35 2.0 Art lens. You certainly took some nice shots there. Carl / Hervey Bay
Nice video! Thanks. I am using the BBF from the film days, starting with Nikon F100 and continued with all digital bodies as well. I would like to note one detail in camera configuration that could affect the configuration you showcased. Not sure for G9 - but usually for AF-S and AF-C in camera configuration we can select either FOCUS or RELEASE. Default settings - FOCUS for AF-S (shutter disabled until focus is acquired) and RELEASE for AF-C (shutter enabled even without focus acquired). I like to set both modes to FOCUS - this way the burst in AF-C will not be up to the max, but you can expect more frames in focus. So if in my case I set the AF-C (with mode set to FOCUS) and try it in the way you explain - it will not work, as camera will not fire if focus is not acquired. To solve this - you need to switch back to the RELEASE mode. This is very minor as RELEASE is the default setting for AF-C. But no harm to mention this in case somebody have an issue with that.
Hello Andrew, just one question. I normally take pictures with my G9 but sometimes i record videos. How can i send the videos to my mobile phone? I can only send pictures and i don’t know why. I use Panasonic Image App. 😢
Simple and to the point, thanks for the concise approach to explaining waterfall shots. Was this with a Full Frame, Crop Sensor, M4/3, 1" or even smaller? A slightly longer video would help those who are using their Smartphones in Pro Mode. There are other settings not mentioned here which is a shame😮
Thank you so much for this very informative video. I only picked up my new camera yesterday and your video has been very helpful. In my previous camera (GX8), I was able to move the focus curser on the screen while I was looking through the view finder. I found it very good to use, but I cannot do that on the G9M2. Can you tell me where the setting for this feature is?
What i dont get is the FIXED number of frames - 20 or 60, why not 30 or 40 or 50? 60 may be too much for me, 30 would have been a fine setting for many cases.
Hi Andrew - so a year or so in, how is the G9 II holding up? What are do you find are the measurable benefits over the G9 (which I own)? How do you view the new GH7 given your experience with the GH6 and G9 I and II? Love your work. Cheers
Thanks for this wonderful tutorial! I have one issue with my G9, even if I set the selector on Timelapse mode, nothing happens. I set everything corectly as in the video but it is only taking one photo. Would you know what would be the problem? Thanks in advance
Hi Andrew, I just bought a second-hand G9 and I'm working my way through your helpful videos. It's a super camera - the only thing I am struggling with is the shutter button. Maybe I'm just heavy handed, but I've taken quite a few photos that I had no intention of taking! I might look at back button focus....
Hi Andrew thank you for such informative videos. However I have a question. In BBF when on a tripod how do I set the focus without disturbing the focus. I have the G9 mark 2 .
Question....I've noticed that in pre burst it really increases the iso with the same minimum shutter speed selected compared to shooting in S. Any idea why
Hard to write a comment for every video but they are really fantastic both from a learning perspective and visually as your pictures are so good - thanks for sharing
Andrew, thank you for the video. Nothing convinces me more but to get the camera than some spectacular photographs. The last photo in particular, just wow! I'm definitely upgrading my Lumix DMC G80 for the G9II, however I'm a little torn if I should upgrade my Leica DG 100-400mm for the new version. How much different is it? The tele-converter option is what got me very interested. To extend that magnificent zoom in the small body factor is nice to have, and I don't have that option at the moment with the current lens. Plus that sticky ring has always been there. Will be interested to see your video on that lens
Have been glued to the videos since I started a few days ago. They are really good, very informative and for somebody who used to take a lot of pictures with my old Nikormat 45+ years ago but have not done anything for many years it is really refreshing and helping me to understand the new world of digital photography. Thanks Andrew
This is crazy! I've been using GH6 for about 2 years now for video 90% of the time, and only today I discover it can shoot photos at 100MP. Thanks so much for this tutorial!
"Emotionally scarred for life" LOL! Next trip out will be trying this out on birds in flight. The Sun is finally making an appearance out here in New Jersey!
