As a StarCraft lover, Gates of Pyre blew my mind. The faction diversity and hero customization bring a fresh layer of strategy that even StarCraft hasn’t explored yet. It's like SC but evolved!
Second comment, I kinda disagree with your closing remarks, I think the thing the gaming community needs is a better balanced SC2 (SC3 if you will.) SC2 style of gameplay is the best RTS ever maybe including WC3, a game that takes the same vein but offers more races, new mechanics but similar unit control would be a huge draw, many games have clunky UI, poor unit control and no opportunity for micro. If you can recreate those sting new unit mixes it could be really exciting!
So sick of RTS games that have so many VFX that you cannot see and differentiate your units. Look at 6:15 the amount of blue circles is insane, what the hell am I even looking at, if I was playing and couldn’t find a group of units in the circle I’d hate the game immediately. Go back to maps and unit design and vfx that promite CLARITY over nice looks, that’s a huge issue with storm gate many units just look the same
I disagree with the "targeting the SC2 playerbase is a bad decision 'cuz they're old now and don't have time to play" shtick you're going for. There's a damn good reason why there's a ton of new RTS games being developed nowadays and it's because there's still a decent enough population playing SC2 (and other RTS games) and people still have a craving and hunger for high octane multi-level decision making while also having to show a masterful understanding of your unit controlling mechanics. SC2 was the most popular and successful for the longest time for a damn good reason and people compare new RTS games to it for that reason. Just having an RTS about big army vs big army and little to no actual unit micro, splitting, backing up and reforming a better position, harassing with drops or split off sections of your army, etc. that style of RTS game bores the hell out of me. SC2 was the only one that has managed to keep me not only playing it but excited to get better. It was just a "memorize a bunch of strategies and min-max my efficiency at timing them perfectly" game, it was a "do all of that AND perfectly split your marines vs banelings while sieging up tanks/widow mines while macroing the next wave of units while dealing with harass at your 3rd/4th" game. I like when RTS games focus on the multitasking and unit control side of things more. Games like Age of Empires, C&C, even Stormgate don't appeal to me. I get the frustration of every RTS being compared to SC2 to a degree but it's for good reason like I said. SC2 esports was literally what spawned Twitch TV into the streaming powerhouse it is today. If that doesn't tell you enough of just how massive SC2 was loved and just how popular that style of RTS is with a broader audience then idk what to tell you. Every other RTS game that comes out very quickly fizzles out whereas SC2 managed to maintain and grow its audience outside of the smaller niche RTS crowd.
7:15 Yes... literally yes. I wouldn't have the same time to play as when I did as a teen playing SC2 but I would still play another RTS game if it offered a "Starcraft 2 but with a unique twist and unique and exciting units" experience for me. 7:50 This question confuses me. Do you think that RTS games are or should aim for the audiences of tactical FPS games like CSGO or MOBAs like Dota 2 and League? Those are audiences that are worlds apart in their tastes in video games. League players aren't going to pick up an RTS game in their life time and FPS players if you ask them how they feel about RTS games they'd say "they're too slow paced and I'd have to play them for a long time before I understood them" FPS players like to pick up a game and just aim and shoot. Not calling them dumb they just prefer a much lower barrier to entry than RTS players are used to and same goes for MOBA players.
(I will never read a reply) If you enjoyed what should be a grown man with a very high pitched voice like a teenage girl... then you DESERVE Husky. The SC2 'community' making him and HD Starcraft famous was mentally ill to begin with. It still pains me to know that HD received money for bronze level analysis all because he had a Microphone bass boom setup that impressed little kids. "WOW MOM DEEP VOICE".
Way too many 'new' RTS fail to invest on the engineering side just to get units to control correctly. That was the core strength of SC2. Coming here from 2024 and seeing Stormgate it's clear they've yet to clear this bar. Many units still control terribly, like the Scout. Compare that to the beauty of Zerg micro and it's a whole generation behind it seems. Hope to see more devs recognize this the same way this Zerospace dev talks about it.
I don't need to spend years playing a single RTS. Just give me a solid campaign. I'll play through it, and then move over to the next one. The Valiant did that.
Crossfire Legion - a meh realism. Tempest Rising - details are nice, but won't be visible from zoomed out view Spellforce 3 - infantry quickly turns into a formless blob. So yeah - in terms of functionality Stormgate has better graphics than the other three.
Helped his wife, deleted old content out of fear of being canceled, stopped dressing like a basement dweller and learned social skills, now is coming back to a genre he loves and is passionate about. Man did nothing wrong it seems.
MKX Design was great and not really that revealing, why do they make female characters worse and worse with each part? And I thought MK11 was the worst.
I dont think Stormgate is going for best graphics. The goal is to make a fun and addicting game that everyone can enjoy. Some rts games are just over-complicated.
I did not like Tanya because of the outfit she wore and how she used to look in the old games. I like Tanya because I really enjoyed how she fought. And seriously sing her in the new MK1 made me cry a little bit because she is so gut punching bad because old Tanya's was 10 times better than this one. I won't lie I get it a new timeline so everything is different but seriously she doesn't have any type of elemental powers.

Stromgate just looks like a mobile game. It dosnt look "bad" but its oversimplified in style and detail and seems like it was designed to be played on a tiny smartphone screen. I dont like how it looks.
If memory serves right, I don't think the sc2 community was upset about his return. But, it was how he handled his return. I think you are either conveniently hiding out the part when he did his very first video on his return or are just not aware of his return video. But, looking at it now, it seems he took it down for some reason. Basically, his first video explained that he deleted his main channel for unknown reasons and that he was going to use his second channel as the main one. He also coldly told his sc2 community to either leave or follow him. I think for the most part a good chunk of us stuck around until his follow up video and I think that's where most of the hate came from. He made a follow up video trying to farm for hate comments from his return video, but ended up not finding much since most comments on his return video were people asking about his hiatus. They sounded more worried than hateful though. But, from that video alone, it looked like he was trying to create some narrative that the sc2 community was after him as he kept leaving out comments that had asked legitimately about his hiatus. Since then, I haven't really paid much attention until RU-vid shot your short into the algorithm. It does make me wonder why he deleted his main channel and his other alternative gaming content since he recently somewhat started to re-uploaded some of his old content. If he does jump into the storm gate scene, I think that's fine since the sc2 scene is slowly dying with the recent shutdown competitive scene in Korea. But, from what I heard, a lot of sc2 pro's and it's community are gravitating towards stormgate as it is becoming a good contender to possibly take over the sc2 once it gets small enough in the later future.
