Low Country Harley-Davidson is locally owned and operated in Charleston since 1979. With a combined 50+ years of service experience and our very own Doc Harley with over 30 years, we work to share our knowledge of motorcycles and products to the best of our ability with not just people in the Charleston area, but the US, and across the world.
I am a Harley owner , and yes a non- mechanic. I am blessed with a mom and pop shop that keeps me running. "The "Doc" is sharp as a tack, and always trying to improve things that need improving. You explained so clearly that even I understood the issue. Bravo Doc!
"Ditching the past". If I were a 30-40 year old mechanic, I'd get that EVO training. The entire run of the EVO line is legitimately classified as vintage. People love vintage/classic vehicles, and the EVO series allows you to do that with a daily driver level of confidence that vintage/classic vehicle owners have never before been able to have. It also had a massive production run, so there's a strong customer base. The final "plus" I see in embracing that market is the undeniable historic significance of the EVO. Harley-Davidson was in dire straits in the late 1970-early 80's, and the EVO series took them for the terminal ward to world domination. That's a heck of an achievement to disrespect by obsoleting such critical parts to a design that literally saved you from extinction.
The bottom line is that an excuse is not the same as a justification. Harley simply doesn't care about their products and services after the $ is transferred to the dealer. It is the job of the dealerships to meet the expectations of their customers.
Most battery tenders come with a couple of attachments. One is a plug that fits into the charging plug that is connected to your battery. If you use the optional one that clamps onto the positive and negative terminal s. You can plug that into the bike’s connection. Now you can take a portable jumper to the positive cable and ground the negative cable. It will get you going! Ride safe wind brothers/ sisters.
An acquaintance of mine had two dealerships in a major metro area. He bought one so he got the existing building, the new one required him to build an "H-D Palace". He sold them both on 2006. Good timing!
As a former tech, I'm very impressed with your level of expertise and your ability to articulate your procedures. How much to complete a 100K service on a 2000 Screamin' Eagle Road Glide. This bike was one of HD's later-production 2000 MY bikes, and it came from the factory with the cam tensioner 'fix'. I know there are variables involved, but if you could give me a reasonable, logical ballpark cost, that works for me. I would ride this bike to SC, IF YOU would do the work!
David we appreciate your kind words and extreme effort for our department to service your bike. Doc is booked up rebuilding the old Harleys and building 3 fleets of police motorcycles……
Doc I need your help, 02 Fatboy fuel injected I tried switching the air filter but bike wouldn't run right so I put the old one back on and now check engine light is on and it idles super fast on and off and the temp on my oil dipstick gets up close to 300f. Help please????
Unfortunately, H-D doesn’t want the family owned dealerships anymore. Our dealership of 65 years was cut loose. I guess they needed to make room for more history.
This such BS video. HD marketing. The casing similar no different. Vibration on a HD? Most newer Harleys don't vibrate and shake like the older HD. HD Battery can be garbage like on the PA upto 2023. It's why people upgrade to a better after market .
@LowCountryHarleyDavidson all I have mentioned is true. Tell me what part in my "opinion" am wrong? Besides, I can say and ask the same from you instead of this HD brand push garbage video.
We've ditched the past to make history.... Yeah quickeat 0-120 and back to 0 again.... There used to be parts availability..... Not anymore....and like said, heritage. Harley corporate doesnt gove two shits and thats pretty sad.
Have a question for you, my 2015 Harley Ultra just started throwing a water temp light and my coolant reservoir started overflowing can that be a faulty thermostat?
Very well explained! Thanks a lot! My 04 Heritage had 2 mufflers installed, that werent ment for this bike, as it didn't use the interference pipe. So it was running terrible. I got stock us mufflers without the catalyst. Bike ran, as it should! Now as i sold it and got a honda fury, which the previous owner had the Powercommander V pfofessionalky installed and which has been tuned on a dyno by a professinal tuner, this bike runs soft and smooth with very little fuel consumption. I got all the documents and diagrams. As I have no clue about all this stuff, i highly recommend, not to tinker like a Teenager on a moped, but go to a professional tuner and let them do the work!
I highly doubt it is the breathers. Could be factory assembly oil. Clean the air box and filter and ride. If you find excessive oil in the air box after 500 miles talk with your local dealer…Doc
I think the same thing is happening with ALL vehicles as well these days. I think too they would rather sell you a new one rather than repair one and keep it running.
I BOUGHT A CHINESE CLUTCH CABLE ON EBAY....you have to open it up far to much to the end of the threaded part... to make it engage the clutch....on my stock cable its omly open about 6 threads...what gives?
Well let’s see….you bought something that Says it fits your bike….From China…over the internet….im sure customer service will be happy to help you…..Doc
This shit is sad man ..,. people work hard AF to afford these goddamn bikes I'm one of them and they make it harder and harder for the working man to enjoy his wheels...had to learn to work on my own shit...alot of scary experiences but these days u can only trust your own hands or like you said man a small dedicated shop bit these are harder and harder to find... Harley is ...dare I say ....gonna find themselves obsolete... custom build your own bikes I rode Harleys I also have Yamaha choppers too and working on building my own shovelhead to my specs chopper sick of dumping money into a company that shits on its customers
Same thing happened to me with my 2006 bmw r1200rt. The dealer where I serviced it for the last 13 years told me they would service it anymore (I had just spent 1100.00 during my last visit. )What my dealer didn’t know is after 17 years I’m in The markert for a new bike and was looking at the new GTL1600. But now…. Nope. Going to spend it on a new Goldwing. Eff you BMW.
I always had a special place in my life for an H-D but not enough to own one. So I rode a Honda and then Indian came and left again then it returned once again so I went with a 2017 Indian Chief Vintage so far they have been good about servicing their brand, and I'm hoping they don't go down the road of H-D.
This is totally ridiculous! There are so many after market parts You can get pretty much get anything. Dealerships should force these mechanics to go to school to learn to work on everything. They are missing out on a lot of money. Every dealer should at least have two mechanics that work on older bikes. If you are trained to work on everything you should get paid more money.
Sounds like it's getting close to the end for HD. My bike is a 2017. I will never pay the high prices again for a new one, especially now that the parts are being made in India. I'm going to just call Harley Davidson, Obsolete!
