Drawing on Barbara Bradby's view on the construction of romance in 1960s girl-group songs, I suggest an interpretation of "Don't Say You Love Me" as "a complex of active sexual desire tempered by real needs, such as that for reciprocation" - or, in the case of M2M, the need for control, for asserting the narrative "I" as an active subject who shows how she keeps the nondescript "you" from violating her integrity. - Taken from "Scratching the Surface" by Jon Mikkel Broch Alvik
They were much like Polish duo Blog 27(which also deserves an episode, for me), except that the Polish one was edgier(influenced by Avril Lavigne and Ashlee Simpson).
The crowd sucks they not screaming dancing singing along or anything. My ass would yelling screaming getting crunk and pumped and singing along hella loud
GRL had it they were it so sad hope they release something for 10 years of the ep and Ugly Heart to Simone's death still does upset me the potential she had was unreal
It is disgusting how some of u girl groupies refuse to consider Melissa is telling the truth and nick might have done it, cuz ur a major fan of his and drool over him.
Here after seeing the Fallen Idols documentary. Nothing but pure facts here and I pray that the women mentioned get the justice they rightfully deserve🙏
I do believe her but something is off in her story. First she said she stayed the night after he assaulted her, that seems strange . Secondly she said worked on the duet with him because it could further her career, seriously? That’s crazy to me. She put money and fame over a rapist. Thirdly, she followed him on Twitter I think she said, again really? The guy is clearly guilty but I don’t know if everything she’s saying is correct either. Seems off.
NGL these BSB fans trying to paint Nick as this "perfect angel" and his victims as "liars" and "attention seekers" are on the same level as those who defend R. Kelly (before and after he was convicted of all the heinous shit he's done).
I respect this bands willingness to play the heels at this festival since it’s not always an easy thing to do. There were probably the most metal act there ironically. As slipknot fan I glad Corey Taylor chose to be the good guy here especially since he’s been open about his dislike of most pop music.
I re-bought the Replay on CD. Their best album! Under My Skin is a second! "They were just hooting and hollering about being big girls and 'I Must Not Chase the Boys' and now they have a tween back in the group." "The stylist clearly hated Anais." Died! More like the stylist was jealous of Anais. I wish Faye would have remained in Play for at least one more album. They had so much unchartered territory left. No hate on Janet, but she set them back. Under My Skin was a makeup for that, though I wish it had a US release. I remember when they reunited. I was happy to see Anais and Faye back in the group but sad to see Anna and Rosie were not.
This is my new favourite channel learning so much about girl groups I didn’t know much about before hand as most don’t make it very far here in the uk Although the reverse also happens because some of our best girl groups are unheard of stateside (girls aloud and the Saturdays being good examples )
aw i’m so glad i came across this video. one of the first CD’s i owned were their shades of purple and the big room albums, i was OBSESSED with mirror mirror. both marion and marit are still so absolutely stunning nowadays (also marion sang don’t say you love me a few years back and she sounded SO GOOD)
Sounds like faye had a ego problem from jump and also a standstill problem always leaving 🙄 causing pain thats hard poor girls they trust her abyways imma listen to the album
Never heard of them not even at my young age but i love them i just listen to there stuff amazing and their Cinderella song was used for cheetah girls 😅❤love both versions 💗
Have you heard of No Secrets? If so could you do a video on them? I think they had the potential to go at least as far as Play did, but I'm unsure why they didn't. They did two songs for Disney (once upon a dream & kiss the girl- both of them pop covers for the princess songs), One for Nickelodeon (kids in America for the Jimmy Neutron movie), and one for I'm guessing cartoon network since it was for the powerpuff girls (That's what girls do).
I remember them leaving the Jewel tour being simultaneous with Marion going solo, and as a Marit fan, it took me years to forgive her. Oops, I guess. It was definitely concerning how much TBR focused on Marion. At the time I even would say it was "Marion featuring Marit" rather than a true duo. The reason Marit gave at the time was that she wanted to focus on playing instruments more. I thought they could've still at least given her lead on one song. Then when the breakup happened, and... yeah. I will say, if Marit was happy about it, she could've said so in the diary section of her website, and she didn't. I never got to the point where I thought Marion had nothing to do with M2M's success though. That's absolutely insane.
Fun fact: Rosie, Emelie, and Anais are friends with Tove Lo. They all went to the high school, Rytmus. She is in their Everygirl music video very briefly. Rosie is also friends with Icona Pop. I remember seeing her tweet about them many years ago.
M2M was such a phenomenon in Vietnam back in the late 90s and early 2000s, they're basically the childhood of all Vietnamese born in the 80s and 90s. I love them so much.
13:59 who could forget the Lilith Fair-lite movement of the early 2000s? When pop chicks wrote their own songs, played their own instruments, and begged to be taken seriously as artists. Many of them were called "Anti-Britneys".
A phenomenal girl group that left too quickly. So much potential wasted. I’m glad they all seemed to find their way. I really appreciated all their music 😎
