My mother's family is Muslim and has lived in China for hundreds of years. In 1355, my mother's ancestor was one of the four founding generals of the Ming Dynasty. He was rampant throughout the country and served as the Minister of State Affairs, the Prince's Guardian, and the Duke of E. The Ming emperor designated his oldest daughter as the Crown Princess and later the Empress Dowager of the Ming Dynasty. After his death, he was posthumously awarded the title of Grand Guardian of Ming, the Right Prime Minister of the Central Secretariat, and the title of King of Kaiping. He was posthumously named Zhongwu and was enshrined in the Imperial Ancestral Temple. His brother-in-law was also one of the four founding generals and Muslim. He conquered Yunnan and Sichuan, recovered a large area of northern Chinese lands that now belong to Russia, and captured the Mongolian king and all his royal relatives alive. Later, he conquered Tibet and Xinjiang. My family had fiefdoms and our own temples, and shares the Imperial Ancestral Temple with the Ming emperors. Muslims fought with the Chinese 800 years ago.
