Congratulations on your wedding. Would you recommend to start as a new grad in the group home?
@TheNursingJewel
@TheNursingJewel 24 дня назад
When I worked at a group home I didn’t really get much training, so I wouldn’t recommend. Unless you are comfortable with learning as you go along. It also depends on the group home company that you work for

What do you plan to do with your MSN? I love psych but im going back and forth between psych np and MSN
@TheNursingJewel
@TheNursingJewel 24 дня назад
Probably something in admin like professional development or quality/risk management. If you have a strong interest in working with psych patients after your MSN I would recommend NP, but if not look into the other MSN specializations

yeah im a new grad on a medsurg / telle unit just bec they didnt have an opening for mental health so i took the night shift and oh boy its so full of stress
@NurseAngie0

I started on night shift and have been night shift for the last 22 years. I have been on many units. I keep saying it is best to start nights on Med/Surg for 2 years and get a base experience. I also had a few weeks of orientation (about a month) and was thrown to the wolves on my first shift on 4th of July. I took 8 patients on my first shift. I precept now, and I have my preceptee do a lot of hands-on work and at the end they tell me they have learned more with me than any of their other preceptors. Being "thrown to the wolves" will end up helping you in the long run while you have someone who is still able to help you. Imo. 😁

Being in health science/ healthcare and screaming on the top of your lungs that you’re christian. I am not okay with my life in your hands, for that I’m glad you left. I hope you don’t try to bring those poor psych patients to “god” in your new job and find a more religiously inclined career. 🙂

Whatever happened to team nursing? I loved that as an LVN . I loved bedside nursing, giving prn meds and working with an RN who would actually help you turn a pt or whatever. It was a great way to work for me. If you had a good RN to work with it was a good night. I think the acuity changed in the hospital and they decided that total care using a licensed nurse ( LVN or LPN) they needed less staff. Even though the pts were sicker. Floating to areas that I was not equipped to handle was so darn scary. 😱. I’m glad you found your niche. Yay….

I'm not listened to & interrupted all the time. So much for 'support'. It's either 'Don't you know how to do that?' or condescension as someone takes over a basic dressing or tells me how to suck eggs. Effing hate it. Mum buys lottery tix & she's forbidden to tell me she's won big as I actually want to stay a nurse and be better for the next generation.

I have seen it first hand, and helped with my husband, all they had to do is give meds. I did his bed, and everything. Not because i had to, but i could see how stressed they were. It horrible, and they should all walk off, and thumb thier noses at the administration, who makes BIG BUCKS on the staffs backs. Good for you sister, im behind all of y'all 💯

I was lucky and went immediately into Labor and Delivery when I graduated and am now in the ICU after 18 years of nursing. Med Surg tele was never anything I wanted a part of. I saw friends drowning getting EIGHT PATIENTS a shift and most nights they had 7 they never had below 6 but usually 7 sometimes 8. That is absolutely not doable and not safe. 7 is absurd and that was a normal night for them but 8 is just not right. They cried every shift I couldn’t understand why it was so bad until I went to ICU and got tripled and saw my med surg ppl getting 7-8 and wasn’t protected in my L&D tower anymore. The hospitals need to wake up and realize these ratios are not safe and god forbid we focus on the pt and our charting isn’t perfect we’re in trouble. I can’t even. Nursing is not what it was when I started at all. They’re pumping out new grads left and right from these expensive non college facilities and they are now 80k in debt and clueless it’s really a shame. Good for you. I’m so sorry you had to endure this. You will find your calling. I’ve left in tears many a shift and that’s NOT normal.

HI, I am not a new nurse but I joined the nurse residency program and I was very excited when I started but I had to leave after almost 4 months, just before completing the "on the floor" portion. I left not because the job was hard, but it was the people I worked with. In my first week, I was assigned a preceptor who clearly demonstrated to me that she did not want to be a preceptor. She never made an effort to show me anything, whilst I had told he I had never worked with the Epic system and would appreciate some guidance to navigate it. All she had me do in the first week was pass ice water, do blood sugars, make beds, pass some meds.....basically very minimal stuff. I told my educator after a week and she said they would change the preceptor but that didn't happen. I stayed another week with this horrible preceptor who was apparently the "best" preceptor on the unit. Fast forward, when nothing changed and I told my educator in the second week, I got another preceptor and then things went from bad to worse. I was told that I was not a good nurse and that I wasn't using my critical thinking skills. Finally, one educator shadowed me for about 4 hours and put the last nail in the coffin. By the end of that week, I knew I would not be working there again. I was not in a good mental state to continue working on that unit so the unit manager called me to her office and she told me the contract had been terminated and I should hand her my badge. The moment I handed over the badge, I felt like a heavy load had left my chest. I have no regrets. I left the place where I was not celebrated, and moved to a place where I was celebrated and appreciated.

Keep going, girl! Relatable…some of these big hospitals force ignorant preceptors on new nurses and then blame them for not thriving. Pathetic
