Man what a great haul! I absolutely love all those artists. I've got to get some more country in the collection, but I find myself falling down the classic rock rabbit hole more often. Right now I've got a lot of Loretta Lynn, some Kenny Rogers, some Marty Robbins, and a Judds collection but that's about it. But hey, that's the great thing about record collecting - there's always something out there to look forward to picking up one day!
I did not realize how much I had gotten over the last few months, I really had been putting off making this video. I told myself this year I was going to get more punk and metal but it’s really been the year of country for me. I’m not complaining though! Appreciate you watching Tim!
I have been buying some country lately also, mostly because VMP has nothing else I want to use my credit on. That said I have been enjoying the country I have been buying, some great tunes And welcome the cat Ziggy. Yu now serve a new aster- Ziggy
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 it’s funny I said this year I was going to add more punk and metal to my collection but it’s been the year of country! VMP does have a good country selection so I would say if you’re going to use your credit that’s a good way to use it. Ziggy came to us by way of the Bojangles parking lot and my wife’s big heart, she also named him too!
Wasn't George and Tammy filmed in Wilmington? You'll find another Shenandoah cover with a beat record somewhere. I have some country classics in my collection, but am into the newer country artists as well because they lean into pop/rock. Reminds me of the Eagles, Poco, New Riders , etc. of the 70's. Thanks for sharing, Kendall, have a good week.
I’m not sure where it was filmed actually. I’d love to get lucky and find a nice cover but if I don’t it won’t be the worse thing. Thanks for watching as always!
Im kinda record collector but im like u i dont buy for display or value or pressings if i dont like dylan or floyd or Whoever 😊im not buying it just cause its loved by others i listeen to mine i have cds cassette becaUse if i go camping or sit outside i crank up my boombox lps arnt portable
I dont need to check a box or label myself. I have bought a record and not listened to it for a year...does that make me a collector? I have stuff that has 3 or 4 listens and then has been shelved for 2 or 3 years. What does that make me? I dont know...again i dont feel the need to put myself in a bucket of THIS or THAT. I agree with you about Chance and his take on his latest podcast/video. I also have a modest channel. I share my opinions. People like or they dont. I appreciate you asking for viewers feedback. I subbed your channel. Looking forward to seeing more.
I appreciate your feedback and the sub. Honestly my point with this video is that there are so many people out there that do judge or “Gatekeep” and it’s really sad so if we get down to their level then none of us are doing this right! So if that’s the case then what does it matter? It’s doesn’t matter how you do it or really label yourself.
I m with you . Yes most people (who frankly are not on the autism spectrum) buy the vinyl for the music yes of course! There is an undeniable pleasure in owning the vinyl itself and the large format artwork, the value or rarity ? I don t give a damn either! Music on vinyl at a good price with no snobbery hopefully. Cheers from Liverpool UK . Check my vinyl posts on my channel if yr curious people, SM. x
I wouldn't' bother trying to label myself as anything. I can't care less how other label me either. Life is way too short to worry about things like this. After all, we are here because in one way or another, we all enjoy (and some love) the experience of listening to vinyl. And that is what I watch when I come to your channel, the experience you share with each of the records you present to us. I can't care less if you are collecting, accumulating, amassing, gathering, stockpiling, garnering, acquiring or compiling them. If you can find the record out of your "pack" and you can present it to us, I am game !!! Don't derail from the great job you are doing because how others label you. Not that I think you would. Let's spin some records, lets have some fun. You don't have to be a collector for that to happen, nor do you have to avoid being one. Cheers Jazz
Interesting stuff. I was actually lucky enough to do a podcast with Chance & I made the same point. Ive just checked & its about 28 minutes into the video...our thought are very similiar
I. Just going to call you Kendall, it’s less complicated for us older folks. I have no real care about pressing, I do like OGs. If someone comes over to look at my records I do tell them I’m a record collector, not a serious one but I have some very rare stuff that I do listen to but not that often. When you start getting over 1000 albums you can fall into that collector mode as most of these you may not listen to for years. My wife would say they now collect dust lol. Interesting topic, I am a big fan of Chance. Maybe it should be a record enthusiast
Yeah I really don’t know what to call it Steve! I just really wanted to make the point that there isn’t a right or wrong way to do it or label yourself and people shouldn’t really tell someone that the way they do it is right or wrong. Thanks for watching Steve!
i like music i like records i buy records to listen to if a record doesn't bring me joy i have no issue selling or trading it.just my opinion kind of silly to think much on what to label myself or others.i personally could careless what others want to label me or what other peoples intent on buying records are that's just me tho.
The point I was just trying to make is that there are people out there that try to say or tell you there is only one right way to do this and if you don’t do that way you are wrong! That isn’t how this community should work and for the most part it doesn’t but it ticks me off to see those that treat others that way.
To be honest i personally do not know anybody who buys vinyl records and puts them on display. A vinyl record is just a physical media which contains music and i would assume people with a vinyl record collection are music lovers who appreciate listening to music on physical media. I do see some extreme vinyl record hoarders in the VC though, which makes me question their intentions.
That’s honestly my point, there is no right or wrong way to really do it but yet there are some out there that say there is only one right way to do it. That’s why I said if that’s the case then none of us are doing it right if we go by definition. The hoarders well I have a whole other opinion on that matter.
Interesting subject matter. I consider myself a record lover. Most of my friends think I'm nuts, so be it. I buy records I like to listen to. My collection comes out to around 12,000+ vinyl LP's and a few hundred CD's that were never released on vinyl. I will keep buying them while I find records I love. Take care. Enjoy the music.
I’ve hard core collected everything Bee Gees for 47 years! Otherwise - I’m a record listener. I’ve never sold a record for money or profit. All for my own enjoyment. My Bee Gees Collection brings me joy! As do all my other records and CDs in what I call my music listening library! When you have been into music and physical media for 50+ years it naturally grows and turns into a personal music library not unlike books for book fans… or movies .. which I also have tons of. I live physical media… including the hunt and excitement of cleaning and sleeving and listening newly acquired records!
Very nice! I also have a ton of movies as well. I don’t buy as much as I used to though. Don’t have the space and everything is easily available now on so many streaming platforms but I still like owning the physical copy if I can!
I'm right there with you Kendall. I've only got one unopened, unplayed record in my entire collection. It's an original sealed copy of Talking Heads "Little Creatures" that was given to me, and obviously I didn't want to destroy the value of it when that's an album that's easily attainable. Everything else I own I bought so I could listen to it. I really dislike when people cast judgment on the way others enjoy a hobby. I mean, who cares if I buy records to play them, another guy buys them as an investment, and someone else just likes owning all 605 pressings of Dark Side of the Moon? If it makes you happy, it's a beautiful thing. The great thing about hobbies is there's no "right" way to enjoy them.
Appreciate the shoutout, and glad this topic resonated with you sir! I’ll label myself “record enthusiast” if only because I’m still enthusiastic about the hobby, the music behind it, and the people who play it. 🤘🏻
Not a lot of Happy songs? If it is bluegrass and he is using a banjo than even the most depressing stuff sounds happy with a banjo! Nice review Kendall though I like happy tunes.
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 thanks Steve. This one is not bluegrass just straight country so not happy sounding exactly. It really is a great sounding album though!
I can see ones opinion going that way. I don’t feel that way with Roth’s songwriting style at least in his solo stuff but I get it. I have a lot of friends that dig it! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Steve! I agree soundtracks have become a hot commodity these days. I love finding a good one in the bins though! My wife got me the Wayne’s World hat so the credit goes to her!
Nice grabs Kendall! That Thing You Do was a favorite soundtrack of mine, I had it on CD. I collect horror soundtracks and scores, so the last soundtrack album I picked up was for a movie called SHE WILL, music by Clint Mansell. He's done a lot of creepy scores for films like Black Swan, Requiem For a Dream, and Stoker.
@@CivilGoreTim hmmm, I remember you collected the horror soundtracks. I don’t know “She Will” though. I’m not big into scores unless they are westerns!
OMG! Kendall. I am so glad you showed That Thing You Do soundtrack. I have been waiting for that to come out and didn't realize it had. One of my all time favorite movies!
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 well you are the reason I bought the Wall of Voodoo actually so I blame you! Yes you need to get that Rival Sons, it’s great!
Hi Kendall, great to see new albums. Too often videos focus on the 70s and 60s, I like to see the new stuff and find out what is new. Nice review of these albums
Thanks Steve! I do tend to focus on older stuff and I try to find newer music but I also find that I don’t like much of the newer music lol but it is nice when you find the stuff you do like.
Got my pen and notepad ready 4 da mayhem!!! I'm on the list to receive a comp copy of that Black Crowes album, might receive it next week or so and I'll feature it on a future video then. All the others I'm probably not going to receive, except maybe another past album from Lenny. Good updates! POOOKE!!!
I dig the new Lenny, but echo the sentiments of others in that I would have liked to have a few true rock/guitar heavy tracks in the mix. Sounds good though; I believe Bernie Grundman mastered it. Cheers!
Yeah I get that. I did hear him say in an interview that he has some of those songs written so we can probably expect another album coming with more of that feel in the future, so something to look forward to!
I knew I had a green label 1st press that sounded really good, I was shocked how good it sounded when I first heard it, just took another look, the vinyl is clean, not a single mark, and I paid $15 for it!!😎🤘
@@spindoctorandhisvinylmayhem had to go back on my photos, I got it September 2022, and I cannot remember where I got it, wasint a big deal to me at the time, I just remember thinking, “an iconic band, creepy album art and for $15 bucks, can’t go wrong with that”😎🤘
@@spindoctorandhisvinylmayhem All I've ever known is the UK version so it just doesn't seem right. I totally get why that might not be a problem for anyone on the other side of the pond though. Nice one
Hey enjoyed the video. I try to thrift buying of records. Its been tough lately. Prices gave gone up. But sometimes i will splurge like you. I really want that album in my collection too. Btw. I subbed your channel.
I appreciate it! Prices make it so hard to thrift and the fact that the hobby has gotten so popular that everyone raids the thrift stores now too so nothing good is really ever there either! Sometimes I find I splurge more and more these days, try not to but they keep coming out with such good stuff!
It's nice that Rhino releases such fine re-releases on vinyl record. But shame on them for only pressing 5000 copies ! Try to get a copy here in Europe for a decent price ...
I'm not buying any more LP's from Rhino. I ordered 3 LP's and they didn't ship for 3 weeks, then the packaging is amateurish. They don't use Whiplash style packaging. The records are clumsily placed inside a box that is too wide with paper squished up against the records to take up space in the box. I bought this LP the month it was released in 1970. I still have it, a "greenie" and thankfully I took care of it because I played the hell out of that LP.
I can understand not wanting to buy from them after all that. This was actually my first purchase from Rhino so I lucked out on the quality of the arrival, not the timing so much. Sounds like you lucked out with your original copy all these years later, definitely no need to change anything!
i am just a black sabbath fan. i have all their albums from the ozzy era on vinyl, except the first one. i really wanted to buy this one, kind of missed the order and now all these damn scalpers charge insane prices for them. screw them.
Yeah it bugs me that people buy just so they can turn around and resell for a stupid amount of money. It really deters people from collecting. I hope you can find someone that will actually sell it for a decent price.
@@spindoctorandhisvinylmayhem worst part is that some of these people consider themselfs to be doing legit 'business' lol i think i will aim for one of the Earmark releases from the 90s/00s. they can be had for reasonable prices and the Sabotage and Vol.4 i got from them sound pretty decent. also 180g vinyl. but who knows: maybe i can find an original first press for cheap :D
I bought 2 copies knowing selling one at a profit would easily pay for my personal copy. Essentially mine was free, how’s that for buying on a ‘budget’? LOL
I missed out . Threw the dice on Devo and BS. Bought 5 records instead then found a BS BS vg+ artisan green for 30$. Good luck/bad luck who knows? I should have known better and got the Rhino Devo as those late 70’s/early 80’s Warner pressings suckkkkkkkkk! Both Devos were pristine but the life and dynamics had been sucked out . I only had the 45 of whip it as a kid. Even Princes 1999 Warner release has some of that bad artifact of struggling against the musicality you know lays somewhere underneath. All 4 Rumors I own are the same….not quite as bad as later 70’s but they clearly had a problem and now I own a system, though modest by most standards that shows the warts. The Self Titled Fleetwood Mac right before on Reprise sounds great so when Warner took over something happened. Maybe they were still paying for their cocaine bill and had to cut costs? Got Raspberry Beret 12” Maxisingle today-looked like hell but sounded great so they must have fixed something by the mid 80’s. The 12” Kiss Maxi also sounded great compared to 1999. Someone knows the story?
Sometimes you get lucky and find that diamond in the rough that looks bad but plays great and there are those pressings that just have so much life you can’t explain!
So that’s a tough one, as I’ve done more research lately and listened to it more I would say if you want a perfect copy and know it’s going to be perfect then yes. That’s just something that is so hard to guarantee with a used copy anywhere, be it discogs, eBay or a record store. Now obviously I would hope you would only pay that if you are a die hard for this album!
Haven't gotten mine yet as of today, June 11th. No shipping notification either. I'm doubtful I will get a copy, even though they took my money on May 17th..... Now the aggravation of trying to get my money back. Thank God for the PayPal Claim button. I'm done with Rhino's B.S.
I can certainly understand that, I was almost stuck in that same situation. It took 10 emails the day I ordered it to finally get the confirmation and then a week later I emailed again to verify about the shipping.
I think every collector has to tailor their collection to their personal circumstance. And ultimately if you can afford a super high end system and have the budget to buy high end pressings, it's wonderful. But if like me you have a fairly low budget system and really have to pick and choose what you can afford, I think that's perfectly OK too. I've never lost a second of enjoyment of my record collection because I couldn't afford the best pressing of something, or because I didn't have a $2500 turntable. Some day I may be in a position to afford audiophile quality equipment and records, and maybe I won't. But I'll enjoy what I have every step of the way.
