Got the monitor 2 days ago and wow I'm shocked how good it is. The blacks are nearly Oled level on my unit and gets very bright. I owned the PG27UQ in the past this seems to top that. Will say though if anyone reads this comment I owned the Benq EX321UX and it was Shockley terrible. The IPS glow was really bad and the local dimming did nothing to help that. 2 the blacks where terrible it was like playing on a normal LCD. Only thing it could do was get bright but then if you was using Word or just scowling through a online page it would eventually dim. Only way to get back to normal brightness was to reset the monitor or to switch off the plug to the monitor. Plus I had 2 dead pixels and the build quality was horrible and after 2 weeks of owning it the monitor kept creaking I couldn't even sleep because how much it creaked and the supplied controller was very cheap and creaky. So this X32 I will be keeping. Considering it has 576 zones it destroys the 1152 on the EX321UX. Plus the X32 has a ATW like my LG 32GQ950. Very Happy and thank you for the great review :D

Nice video, I think making that feature on by default makes sense. macOS, Android, iOS are all color managed by default. sure, it can be confusing to some people, but idk if it's that big of a deal. A few things Ive noticed: 1. 10-bit rendering on desktop doesnt work for me unless I have ACM enabled. Before 24H2, things like Windows 11 UI or Chromium apps would render proper 10-bit gradients just by selecting 10 bit in the Nvidia control panel, now they also need ACM enabled. 2. The power cost is tiny, but noticeable. My 4090 on idle consumes about 22-23 watts, but with ACM it's more like 25-26. It's almost nothing, but not free. Haven't noticed a difference in how games run tho. 3. Photoshop was broken when ACM was enabled, gamma was completely incorrect (boosted shadows). But it seems fixed with an update they just released yesterday (26.0). All other professional apps I use like Premiere, After Effects, Davinci, Blender seem to work just fine with ACM.
@PCMonitors
@PCMonitors 3 дня назад
Thanks for sharing you findings. I don't think there's necessarily a problem with it being enabled by default, as long as people are aware that's the default behaviour. It should give you a little notification or something (Windows loves those) where you are made aware ACM is enabled and you can disable it if you wish. The stealth switching on of ACM when changing the bit-depth would also be better (though in my view not ideal) if you were actually notified.

Is this method more accurate than the sRGB clamp applicable with AMD control panel? Could you also run latency tests for the two methods?
@PCMonitors
@PCMonitors 3 дня назад
Per the video, it uses the same EDID information. The accuracy is the same, unless you're using a monitor where the AMD clamp also affects the colour temperature. There is no measureable effect on latency.

@@PCMonitors If before activating the RGB clamp in AMD adrenalin software or with this new method I change a setting in the monitor menu, will the EDID change or will it always remain the same despite the changes in the monitor menu? Pretty cool but I'm just thankful that AMD does the sRGB clamp thingy so effortlessly. Many people criticize AMD drivers, but that is one good feature that they have.
@PCMonitors
@PCMonitors 3 дня назад
Indeed the toggle integrated into AMD drivers is nice and is a feature to be praised. Though ACM has some potential advantages over that. To repeat from another post of mine: "The advantage of ACM is it automatically disables under HDR (seem to recall the AMD toggle doesn't always do that and it can be problematic on some monitors), it can use extended colour spaces for programs written using the 'ACM architecture' and requesting that and you can use ICC profiles with ACM active for colour-aware applications using the 'workaround' covered in the video. Oh and the AMD toggle messes up colour temperature on some monitors as well."

Interesting video as always. I think that its time that OS/apps should start supporting Wide gamut monitors natively. I really hope to see sRGB standard abandoned soon, it's a bit anachronistic this days.
@Blanc_Breeder
@Blanc_Breeder 3 дня назад
The double clamping happening with browsers is quite annoying. I've tested it using my own colorimeter and HCFR, and chromium/electron apps (such as discord) automatically apply any icc profile you have installed in windows, with no way to disable this behavior leading to desaturated colors with both ACM active and an icc profile installed, sure you can use the legacy mode but one of the advantages of ACM is that it applies to everything including video which I've not seen browsers fix with icc profiles yet (it sorta worked with firefox years ago but is currently broken). It not using the gamut data from icc profiles is also quite annoying, and considering they intend for this to eventually fully replace the old color management system I hope that means they will eventually improve it to use icc profile data rather than generic EDID. Who knows maybe one day we could even get full 3dlut support although that's just me getting greedy. Personally I still think a proper unlocked sRGB mode (custom color temp, gamma,etc.) would still be the best way to deal with wide gamut displays until acm uses icc data and at least browsers support acm, but unfortunately a lot of monitor manufacturers don't seem interested. You're the first one I've seen talk about this though so it's good to see reviewers are paying attention to this issue. Hopefully monitors unboxed and rtings also talk about this so maybe Microsoft is pushed to address some of the current issues with ACM.

@PCMonitors

The legacy ICC thing is just to tell ACM not to "take over" - it's not required if ACM isn't used, which includes under HDR as ACM doesn't interfere with that in any way.

It's safe to leave a monitor in standby for extended periods of time, it doesn't draw enough power or generate enough heat to damage it. Technically when you turn a monitor 'off' with a power button it's still on standby (typically a lower power standby state, but still standby).

Because I've seen reviews and reddit threads claiming that the panels on the older monitors seem to be better than the ones used on the newer versions. And I've seen the newer versions have more issues like screen glitching randomly and ghosting on them than I've seen on older versions through my research on the internet.

Or just get the 24G2SP(U) which we recommend instead, which still uses a good panel and is a strong all-round performer - pcmonitors.info/articles/best-gaming-monitors/. For what it's worth, as you commented on it elsewhere, I don't consider the build quality to be below average within the segment on that model. In fact it's more solid than Gigabyte's design in my view (refer to my comments about the stand base in this M27Q view, for reference). Though the MSI is possibly more solid feeling and perhaps it's worth getting hold of the original panel on that one.

Hey, I was wondering as a monitor reviewer- what does one mean when they say that a monitor is light weight? Does it mean that it's hollow inside and cheap in quality and could easily break with time? I was looking at a review of the AOC 24G2 and the person reviewing it said that it was light compared to other monitors in the same price range, so that got me thinking if it means that it's low quality and I've got to be honest that's one of the factors that's been bugging me when I think about considering the monitor for purchase. Hope you can help answer this question.
@PCMonitors
@PCMonitors 6 дней назад
It depends on the reviewer, but when I say that I mean it literally. It doesn't weigh a lot and yes that could point towards what you call "cheap" quality. I wouldn't expect it to break easily unless you're into treating your monitor oddly roughly, it doesn't quite feel like a cheap toy or anything.

Hi, what’s your thoughts on OLED burn in? I’m primarily looking for a 27” monitor with a good amount of contrast but I’ll be using it for a lot of static content too (50/50 split between productivity and gaming.) Would I be better off using a different type of panel like a VA panel with a MINI LED backlighting like this one here? I’m willing to spend up to $600 but from what I can see this is the best monitor of that type even though it’s “budget”
@PCMonitors
@PCMonitors 7 дней назад
Burn-in is always a risk when going the OLED route. I use (and will continue to use) them myself for a mixture of gaming and productivity, but I don't use them for hours on end without letting them run their maintenance cycles. If you want to be able to do several hours of work at a time without giving the monitor a break (so to speak), you definitely run an increased risk of burn-in. I think this AOC is a nice solution if you want a strong all-round SDR and HDR performance without worrying about burn-in, but by the same token it can't match the image quality characteristics or responsiveness of OLED.
@boringron5114
@boringron5114 7 дней назад
@@PCMonitors Thanks, I think I’ll go for this panel then. Not really a competitive gamer and I’d rather not have to worry about burn-in during productivity sessions. The monitor is available in North America, but not Europe at time of review. I actually purchased this one myself (for the review) via Amazon .com with shipping to UK and even with import duties, tax etc. it remained a reasonable price. The only thing I’d say is that the ‘power brick’ is built into the mains plug end and obviously you’ll need a US to UK adaptor as well. So it becomes quite a chunky connection at the mains end.
