Knife Chat with Tobias focuses on the history of traditional knives and/or their manufacturers. I collect traditional pocket knives and fixed blades. I am a knife collector, and as such I do not carry every knife in my collection. Knives of interest: Powder horn frames, Toothpicks, Fish Knives Scout Knives, Hobos, Swiss Army Knives Military knives, especially USAF knives (fixed and folding) Nautical Knives. Knives made for specific trades (Electrician, Carpentry, Etc.) Strange knives, novelty knives, things you don't see everyday The occasional modern folder (especially Spyderco)
I am not associated with any specific store, brand, or knife maker and do not accept payment for reviews. I also do not do abusive use tests. If you want me to break a knife for you, buy it and send it to me.
My other Channel is devoted to scale model building www.youtube.com@Tobys-Glue-Bomber-Circus
Rough Ryder calls the little guy the "Cub Lockback" Originally they were called a "Squirrel Hunter" A couple other videos on that type of knife... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YS9oX6sDNfs.htmlsi=UL78A0ptY8b8pwc4 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-19SjkaRR8to.htmlsi=UZaXMoNcGDNwe710
I found it to have a good grip area but, yeah, every hand is going to fit in differently. The finder grooves are a little big for me. But if a person had think fingers that the funky guard might prove problematic.
Awesome response Tobias! I was wondering if anyone was going to respond with one knife with all the colors and you had two, nice honorable mentions! A lot of lovely choices on your list, I really like that violet acrylic in the last toothpick! Unfortunately the purples are tough, I think it would be okay if people wanted to limit it to just one purple. My wife’s favorite color is purple so that one wasn’t too bad for me. Thanks for sharing and joining the open tag! I’ll get your video added to the playlist.
Use ever clear to wipe down the scales, then dye with Alcohol base leather dye of the color of your choice. use dye reducer to lighten the color to your liking, or use light color dye first and darken as you go. No heat required.
I do not own any red swiss army knives. All my knives are from an assortment I bought from eBay that said they were taken from airport security so they all have ads on them and only costed a couple bucks each they were the simple ones for cleaning yourself and have one little blade and a fingernail file, etc.
I think I would really struggle to do this! That being said, there are variations on the rainbow. At least there are children’s cartoons are to be believed. Cocomelon has just six, with Indigo and violet being replaced with purple. Whilst Dora the Explorer has just four!!!there’s dumb down and then there Dora! Poor kids!
Nice to see your picks for the rainbow challenge, cool selections. I can manage the others but I only have one indigo (Case mini trapper Burnt Indigo bone) and, in rechecking everything, one pink (Frost small 3-blade Toothpick in Pink Abalone). 😀Thanks Tobias.
Thanks this one was quite a bit of fun for me. Although I feel it would be easier for more to join if folks just combined indigo and violet into purple. ( six knives instead of seven).
The Scout knife has been a trusted companion to accompany boys into the great outdoors for well over 100 years. It’s my favorite knife pattern and a beloved old friend.
Many people have offered other options but this time it feels like Rough Ryder was too busy thinking of how to change it but they seemed to have gotten lost along the way.
I’m a Rough Ryder fan, but the slab size camp knives seem antithetical to the purpose of carrying a do it all style knife. My Alox SAK #7 is my EDC for that reason, still love the camp knives.
It’s a cool knife but I wish the blade was 4.5 mm think and an inch longer. And the tip looks a little fragile for a Bowie knife. Also 1095 carbon steel would be nice. These are the things that make me hesitate in buying one. A comparison between this and the cold steel Wild West Bowie would be a good video. It’s more inline with the specs I listed.
I like the blade length but I have to say, 1095 would be a better blade steel option. The 4116 is okay and is a step up from the 420 that Western was using at the end but still...I too would've liked to have seen something a little better.
I have a ' eagle" ? Dr's knife 🗡 with exact scales & shield design..part of 🗡 says USA w made in China 🔪 tang stamp( a very confused 🗡, looking for a compass)
It's a little more expensive and I'm not sure its available but if you're into Swing Guards and like big knives, you might want to check out the Rough Ryder Reserve Swish. (I really hope thy shrink down the Swish to a more manageable size.) Glad you found the video useful. I'm keen to hear your thoughts on the knives you bought.
