Hey Liam, just wanted to say once again that you absolutely have the most heartfelt, thorough, genuinely introspective and entertaining videogame retrospectives on all of RU-vid. I just relistened to your ones on Mario Sunshine and Galaxy, and they are top notch. It boggles my mind you don't already have a few million subs, as your content is just so much more well-thought out and interesting than several big names out there. I was just listening to another's take on the Bioshock franchise with 2.5m views and just as many subs, and I couldn't take how dry and nitpicking his content was compared to yours. You're one of the few guys out there who appears to be genuinely passionate about the games you talk about, and while displaying your love you're also able to constructively criticize the games without being overtly negative or overbearing like many reviewers are. No one wants to listen to a guy rant and whine about the unrealistic nature of Bioshock's audio logs for 30 minutes of a 3 hour retrospective. You don't do that, or if you did you'd bring it up in a non-obtrusive way that's enjoyable to listen to and think about. So many game reviewers and RU-vidrs just love to focus on the negative aspects in a condescending way, it's refreshing to hear your take which is typically simply much more sublime and engaging. Just wanted to say, keep up the great work and keep making content when you can. I'll take one of your great videos even if they're only every few months over some of these guys pumping out weekly content about games they clearly are only kinda interested in. I also love that pretty much all of your favorite games growing up mirror my own, almost perfectly that it's almost uncanny. Cheers bro!
I distinctly remember asking for an N64 from Santa that first Christmas, being disappointed when I didn’t get one, then “coping” when I finally got to play one at Walmart. I told my mom I was glad I didn’t get one because the controller didn’t make sense. 🤷♀️
Personally, I'd love to see a Super Mario Sunshine Redux game. Not a remaster, sequel or prequel, just another dev team taking a shot at redoing it from the original premise of a mission based game. New game play features, a different version of Isle Delfino to explore and preferably a story where Peach isn't just kidnapped by Bowser...again. Like, an alternate timeline version of Sunshine. Doubt it will happen, but it would still be interesting to play. A Wind Waker Redux with the missing dungeons and a few other quality of life improvements interests me too haha.
In what way is the Wind Waker an "open ended world driven by discovery?" It's aggressively linear without anything to discover. I think people are misremembering how it actually plays because it looks like more of an adventure than it is.
this is one of the most spineless videos ive seen on youtube lmao. "i swear!! the game is fun when you learn how to play it, you shouldnt though its bad haha am i right" literally stop caring. there are no "good" or "bad" games, just weak and strong wills. fuck everyone. this game owns.
These Band games were such a fun 2000s game. This was the time when we had no idea what could be a game. Fitness could be a game, music could be a game, or cooking as a game. My parents got my brother and I the Beatles rock band set on Wii and we also had lego rock rock band. I also played guitar hero (which ever one has no sleep to Brooklyn and Living on a Prayer, im to lazy to look it up) at a neighbors house which was fun. I was never really good at using the guitar. I cant play a musical instrument irl and i can't play the game verison of it either. My fingers have to move to much and my brain cant keep up with it. I was ok at drums as long as it was on easy mode. That left me with singing which i was terrible at. So mostly i just watched other people play the game. Its kinda sad that the fad died out so fast. It was a fun time with friends. Now the biggest problem is that special hardware (guitars, drums, mic) aren't being made anymore, not even crappy 3rd party ones. So if you want to get a group of friends together you either have to hope that poorly made plastic guitar still works or shill out $60 for a replacement one thats for the ps3, when you have a Wii
You said that Mario Odyssey captures the spirit of Mario 64 which I disagree because Mario 64 actually made it feel like you were exploring and finding secrets, Mario Odyssey on the other hand just felt like a grind fest.
Hyrule field didn't feel barren back in the day. Sometimes I'd stand there with Link and watch the sun set into night, then be rewarded with the sun rise. This was simply amazing in 1998. The thought of barren never crossed your mind.
This video is absolutely amazing. Definitely the best video on these games I've watched. I also love your comment about having a Year Zero chapter in a game. While I would love one to be based around The Downward Spiral, Year Zero would make for a much more epic visual and gameplay experience. Anywho, great video!!! I look forward to your future content.
June direct coming up. I REALLY want to hear anything about a prime 2 remake, or remaster (either is fine to me). Some positive news about prime 4 would also be great. Anything done with prime 3, i'd also throw my money at. I got some gift certificates for gaming stores for my birthday recently, and they need to be spend! (Non-metroid related, a wind waker port would be lovely). Boy do i hope i can look back at this comment with joy in a couple of weeks.....
The irony is Mario kart 8 even though it is the best selling switch game it's not even in the top 50 most played switch games. My evidence is 3 years ago around game awards time Nintendo displayed the most played games on the eShop. The games that populated the top spots were mostly turn-based strategy.
I know a lot of people complain about Majoras Mask only having four dungeons, but honestly, the dungeons in MM are a lot bigger than the ones in OoT. They are more complex, too. Like, I can blitz through the Water Temple in OoT in like an hour or so after not having touched the game in years (in fact I just did yesterday), but I need literal hours to crack Great Bay Temple, not to mention the time to get to the dungeon in the first place. It's a lot more lengthy than people give it credit for.
It’s BOTW TWO! Of course it is similar, you aren’t buying another game, the point is that it’s a part 2! It started as a DLC, so if you expected a brand new game, this game is not for you.
I've never played the first game. When I heard Rosalina's story, I was genuinely on the verge of tears. I never knew how much more emotional weight the original carries. Like, when I heard Rosalina's mum was under the tree, I almost fucking BAWLED then and there. I thought the mum had just left her, but I NEVER thought she actually DIED.
I swear no one actually hates Sonic R, it's just for content. I have not found a single person who actively hates this game, bc it's impossible. This game has so much charm
Good points but the background gameplay is anxiety inducing. Always missing drifts, getting out of the track in corners and getting bad items. My ocd doesnt allow me to watch
Man i should have known you'd leave the best for last with Superman. Great video Liam. One thing i was hoping you would mention was Roswell in the first game
Very unpopular opinion. I played galaxy 2 first (my mom just got that one I suppose) and what a fantastic game it was. Then after a few years I decided to get galaxy 1 and while a fantastic game boy was i disappointed. Feels very unfinished and polished compared to galaxy 2. Some stars are there after 5 seconds. Some are satisfying to collect. So convoluted
